First record of the invasive alien species Neocardina sp. from Okinawajima Island, central Ryukyus, Japan
In September 2021, Neocardina sp. as a serious invasive alien freshwater shrimp were collected in Kakinohana spring, Okinawajima Island, central Ryukyus, Japan. These shrimp were first recorded on Okinawajima Island and Ryukyu Archipelago. The phylogenetic tree based on the Bayesian inference of nucleotide sequences in the COI region of mitochondrial DNA was used to identify this shrimp as N. devidi type II (N. devidi koreana?). This species are highly reproductive and are likely to have a negative impact on the ecosystem as well as on native shrimp. Also, same genus shrimp are distributed in Ishigakijima and Iriomotejima Islands, hybridization and extinction are feared by the invasion of this species.2021 年9 月〜10 月に沖縄島南部の垣花樋川において国外由来の外来淡水エビのカワリヌマエビ類の一種Neocardina sp. を138 個体採集した.
Background: Despite reports of a link between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling activation, the role of the mTOR pathway, especially raptor and rictor, in HPV-related head and neck cancer is still unclear. The aim of the present study was to elucidate the role of the mTOR pathway in HPV-related oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC).
Methods: The present study involved two strategies. The first was to investigate the activity of mTOR and mTOR-related complexes in high-risk HPV-positive (UM-SCC47 and CaSki) and HPV-negative (SCC-4 and SAS) cancer cell lines. The second was to elucidate mTOR complex expression in 80 oropharyngeal cancer tissues and to examine the relationship between mTOR complex expression and survival in patients with OPSCC.
Results: The UM-SCC47 and CaSki cell lines showed high gene and protein expression of raptor. They also exhibited G1/S and G2/M phase cell cycle arrest following 24 h incubation with 6 μM temsirolimus, a rapamycin analog, and temsirolimus administration inhibited their growth. HPV-related OPSCC samples showed high gene and protein expression of raptor and rictor compared with HPV-unrelated OPSCC. In addition, HPV-related OPSCC patients with high raptor and rictor expression tended to have a worse prognosis than those with low or medium expression.
Conclusions: These results suggest that raptor and rictor have important roles in HPV-related OPSCC and that temsirolimus is a potential therapeutic agent for patients with HPV-related OPSCC. This is the first report to reveal the overexpression of raptor and rictor in HPV-related OPSCC.博士(医学)琉球大
ホルモン感受性前立腺癌における、ホルモン治療開始3か月後のPSA値は全生存期間の予測マーカーである
Objective: To date, there are no useful markers for predicting the prognosis of metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC). We evaluated the effect of early changes in prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels after androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) on castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) progression and overall survival (OS) in mHSPC patients. Results: In 71 primary mHSPC patients treated with ADT, the median times to CRPC and OS were 15 months and 92 months, respectively. In multivariate analysis, a Gleason score of≥8 (p=0.004), an extent of disease value (EOD) of≥2 (p=0.004), and a 3-month PSA level>1% of the pretreatment level (p=0.017) were independent predictors of shorter time to CRPC. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was feasible at 0.822. A 3-month PSA level>1% of the pretreatment level was an independent predictor of OS (p=0.004). Three factors were independent predictors of shorter time to CRPC. A 3-month PSA level>1% of the pretreatment level correlated with a poor prognosis.博士(医学)琉球大
