There is a desk in the background which has a lamp and sewing machine sitting on top. There is a light colored dress in the sewing machine. The woman has dark hair and a stern face. She is wearing a white collared shirt and a long dark skirt which reaches her ankles. She is wearing dark shoes. Her hair is in a pony tail. At the bottom left of the image it reads "218/300." On the bottom right is the artist's signature, Raphael Soyer. The frame is thin and black and sits on a white canvas mat. The back has a white rectangular sticker on the top which says "Raphael Soyer / Seamstress I (b/w) / ACCN #1997. 1.30" On the wire there is rectangular white note which reads "26 1/2 X 30 1/4 West / 50-21 1/26 / Rhodes College Plglass". 2017 Senior Thesis Final Critique

The work was displayed in the Clough-Hanson Gallery between April, 20 - 27, 2017.The exhibition was titled, "The Mirth that Exists Between Everything Else." Artists included in the exhibition are Emma Barr, Dylan Boutwell, McKenzie Drake, Jill Fredenburg, Shelby Glass, Bryan Martin, Malerie McDowell, Haley Rushing, Mimi Shepley, Margaret Tronsor, and Jean Xiong

"In Conversation" Installation Image
This digital image was photographed and uploaded to DLynx by the Visual Resources Center in October, 2017.This is an image documenting the "In Conversation" exhibition.This exhibition celebrates the contributions of women faculty and alumnae from the Department of Art and Art History by placing them in conversation across generations around persistent themes in the study and creation of art. Mary Sims and Alexandra Carter examine the roll of the figure in representation, both realistic and fantastical. Esther Ruiz, Daisy Craddock, and Betty Gilow employ color and abstraction to striking visual effect. Erin Harmon and Valerie Berlin find compelling pattern in landscape and domestic spaces. We're pleased to round out the exhibition with the work of Floy Hanson and Jessie Clough, two forward-thinking women whose keen eyes and passion for art laid the groundwork for Clough-Hanson Gallery
Sarah Hatfield Screen Printing Documentation
This digital image was created by Sarah Hatfield during summer 2017 and uploaded to DLynx by the VRC during fall 2017.Sarah Hatfield '19 received a Memphis Center Fellowship in the Arts during summer 2017. In her self-designed project, Sarah created screen-printed apparel that resonated with her experieces tied to living in Memphis. Because there is no printmaking facilities or expertise in the Rhodes Collge art department, Sarah used funds from the fellowship to receive training at Five In One Social Club and Flicker Street Studios. Sarah documented her coursework, designs, and distribution around Memphis as an integral part of this project. This digital image is part of her documentation
