    This digital image was photographed by Chip Pankey and uploaded to DLynx by the Visual Resources Center in April, 2018.This is an image from the "Liberation" exhibition, presented by The Collective. The Collective is a Memphis- based nonprofit organization that was launched in 2015. Their mission is to inspire and cultivate creativity within their community, to provide a platform for African American artists in Memphis to display their talents, and use that creative expression as a vehicle to uplift their community. The 'Liberation" exhibition was held from February 23- March 24. A panel discussion with the artists took place on March 13 , and a closing reception and performance took place in the gallery on March 23

    Artwork Installed in Refectory for President Hass Inauguration

    This is an image of one of the installations for in the Refectory for the inauguration of the twentieth president of Rhodes College, Dr. Marjorie Hass. The inauguration took place on Saturday, January 13, 2018.Jean Amy (wife of Biology Professor Bob Amy) was commissioned by the College to do these pieces in 1976. They were installed on first floor Palmer Hall in 1978. Later they moved to the Frazier Jelke hallway outside lecture hall FJ-A.Mrs. Amy was an artist in many media, but she particularly delighted in using found objects in her designs. Here, her skills in needlecraft are on full display with quilting, contrapunto stuffed objects and fragments of old weavings, clothing, and rugs. These fabric constructions represent the seven divisions of knowledge in the medieval world. They are stated in two groups: the Trivium and the Quadrivium. (East wall) The Quadrivium = Astronomy – Geometry – Arithmetic - Music (West wall) The Trivium = Rhetoric – Dialectic - Gramma
