    This paper explores the English as a second language (ESL) education among adult refugees who have arrived in Memphis, Tennessee within the last twenty years. The research is based on an eight-week ethnography and interviews. By investigating the experiences of both ESL teachers and adult refugee students, this paper will demonstrate challenges that Memphis refugees face including a lack of time, resources, and confidence on their way to becoming proficient in English.This paper will conclude with strategies to combat future refugee resettlement challenges, including an increase in collaboration within the city and the refugee organizations,an increase in funding, and an increase in cultural sensitivity among the Memphis community

It was uploaded to DLynx during summer 2019.Middle school students from Humes Preparatory Academy worked with local artist Shea Colburn to complete a mural on the fa�ade of a blighted building at 989 Looney Street. The idea stemmed from a partnership between the Klondike-Smokey City Community Development Corporation, UrbanArts, Crosstown Arts and the Mayor�s Innovation Delivery Team, as another installment of the Delivery Team�s 25 SQ project. There are also two white circular raised sections of the forehead. Above these white circles there is the beginning of a black hairline. There are also three holes in the chin where a beard extends. Only two of these holes for the beard have hair coming out of them.Condition Description: The mask is missing one the sections of hari that extend from the chin. There is a black paint mark on the foreheah and nose. There are several places where the paint has been rubbed off. The paint at the top of the head is also chipping

The exhibition is curated by Monument Lab’s Artistic Director Paul Farber. Monument Lab is a national public art and history project based in Philadelphia. As a curatorial team led by Paul Farber and Ken Lum, Monument Lab works with artists, activists, and students to critically engage the monuments we have inherited and unearth the next generation of monuments. "Monument Lab: Prototypes/Proposals" includes prototype monuments from Monument Lab collaborators Kara Crombie, Michelle Angela Ortiz, Jamel Shabazz, and Marisa Williamson, in which they centered projects around themes of social justice and solidarity; artifacts of the Monument Lab public engagement process including samples of the public dataset of proposals and copies of the culminating Report to the City; and a research room that places the exhibition in local and global context. Monument Lab: Prototypes/Proposals will run from January 19 through March 16, 2019

Description is as follows: In Shelby County and nationwide, a central theme in the mass incarceration era is a widespread education deficiency. A growing convergence between education and incarceration has emerged, with incarceration being prioritized over education. In this conversation, Dr. Cage will explore the interconnectedness of local and national practices related to education and incarceration and highlight the lived educational experiences of people adversely impacted by the education system and the carceral system.
