Riso is the limit : exploration of creative opportunities within the constraints of risography

    No full text
This thesis investigates risography—a hybrid analog-digital printing method—from the perspective of constraint-based creativity and practice-based research. Originally developed as a utilitarian duplicating process, risography has since gained popularity among contemporary artists, designers, and independent publishers for its distinctive aesthetic, affordability, and low-energy operation. While often defined by technical limitations such as a restricted color palette, ink properties, paper requirements, or format limitations, as well as a degree of mechanical unpredictability, these constraints are shown here to act not as obstacles but as generative conditions for creative innovation. The study combines autoethnographic practice, interviews with professional risography practitioners, and a workshop with novices to examine how technical and material boundaries influence artistic workflows, decision-making, and outcomes. Findings reveal that practitioners actively engage with the limitations of risography—either by embracing them or working around them and adapting designs to machine quirks—which often directs rather than stifles creativity. Risography emerges as a medium well suited for collaborative, community-based practice as well as a viable medium for professional production. Through critical reflection on practical experimentation and participant observation, this work argues that creativity often flourishes within well-defined boundaries. The concluding risography handbook synthesizes these insights, offering guidance for future exploration. More broadly, the thesis contributes to design and media scholarship by reframing limitation as an active medium, demonstrating that in risography, as in many creative practices, the constraint is the catalyst.Alexandra SuvákováDiese Masterarbeit gliedert sich in 6 BändeMasterarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

The impact of music-supported training on gait in individuals with dementia

AbstractBackground:In people with dementia, motor deficits particularly gait disturbances often occur alongside cognitive decline. These impairments significantly increase the risk of falls and limit independence in daily life. As pharmacological treatments have limited effects on motor function, non-pharmacological interventions are becoming increasingly important in physiotherapy. Music represents a particularly effective therapeutic resource, as musical long-term memory often remains intact even in advanced stages of the disease. Music-based training uses rhythmic cues to specifically activate motor and cognitive abilities and shows promising results in improving mobility and reducing fall risk. Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate, based on a literature review, the effects of music-based training as a potential therapeutic intervention in physiotherapy to improve gait performance in people with dementia. Results:The majority of studies showed significant improvements in gait-related parameters such as walking speed, stride length, and balance. Interventions with rhythmically accentuated and biographically meaningful music were particularly effective. Additionally, one study reported cognitive benefits. Multimodal training approaches that combined motor and cognitive tasks achieved lasting results. Several studies also documented a reduced fall rate over periods ranging from months to years. Differences emerged in duration, frequency, setting, dementia severity, and assessment tools. The best outcomes occurred when the music was biographically relevant, the beat matched the individual's step frequency, and exercises took place in familiar surroundings. Involvement of relatives also proved beneficial for adherence. Long-term effects were particularly noticeable when interventions were conducted regularly over several weeks with professional guidance.Conclusion:Music-assisted gait training is an effective, low-cost and everyday intervention that has the potential to promote mobility, reduce falls and relieve the burden on the healthcare system. In practice, the use of biographically relevant music and integration into familiar routines and settings is recommended. In addition, attention should be paid to individual needs, the patient's daily condition and the involvement of relatives. Future research should evaluate the long-term effectiveness and use standardized assessments and larger samples in order to provide more sound evidence of clinical relevance.Verfasserin: Kriechbaumer FranziskaAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung von der:dem Verfasser:inBachelorarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

Physiotherapeutic interventions for fine motor control in transradial myoprosthesis

    No full text
Background: Amputation of the upper extremity often occurs after traumatic incidents. In Germany alone 5.466 patients suffered from an upper limb amputation in the year 2024. For an optimal outcome, not only is the right type of prosthesis mandatory but also the ability to fully control it. While surgical techniques and modern myoprostheses are subject to constant scientific improvements, the physical rehabilitation process after surgery is often disregarded. Currently (April, 2025) no official, study-based guidelines are available for clinical practitioners. Objectives: This bachelor thesis analyses the effectiveness of different rehabilitative approaches to achieve optimal fine motor control skills for myoprosthesis and aims to rank them regarding different rehabilitative phases. Results: By comparing the findings of 6 studies, the following clinical recommendation was created. In early rehabilitation, clinicians should focus on training with virtual prostheses and electromyography (EMG) controlled games to achieve optimal control of producing the necessary signals for opening and closing a prosthesis as well as the force control thereof. Training with the sound arm and a simulator might produce faster learning of gross motor skills with the actual prosthesis, but no clinical relevant effect was found. Once the wound was healed, functional training through indirect grasping proved as the most effective method to learn fine motor control skills. Fur-thermore, mode-switching signals should be individually practiced with virtual feedback. As long as there are no prostheses with proprioceptive feedback, mastering grasping-force control will require the most time. Conclusion: As the study designs showed a considerable variability, the research question cannot be answered definitively. At present, there is insufficient evidence to support a novel clinical recommendation. However, it was possible to rank different approaches and integrate them into the rehabilitative process. Further evaluation and refinement are still necessary to define the optimal volume of the interventions. Virtual training methods have proven to be highly effective in the early phases of rehabilitation. However, as soon as the patient is able to use their prosthesis, bimanual functional training proved to be superior. The only exception is the training of the highly abstract mode-switching signal, for which EMG controlled games displayed considerable potential.Verfasser: Lukas NeumüllerAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung von der:dem Verfasser:inBachelorarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

The CNN Fear & Greed Index : an investigation into the predictive power of the CNN Fear & Greed Index for the US stock market

    No full text
This thesis investigates the CNN Fear & Greed Index (FGI) as a sentiment indicator and its potential predictive power for the U.S. stock market between January 2011 and August 2025. Building on behavioral finance theory and prior studies on investor sentiment, the analysis examines the time series properties of the index, explores its statistical relationships with market variables, and tests its applicability in forecasting and trading models. The empirical study is based on 3,685 daily observations of the FGI, combined with key market indicators such as the S&P 500, the VIX volatility index, high-yield bond spreads, and U.S. Treasury yields. Correlation and regression analyses reveal that the FGI shows only weak short-term relationships with returns, but its explanatory power increases with longer horizons. In particular, over five-day intervals the index—together with control variables such as the VIX and lagged returns—provides more robust results. Extreme fear or greed phases tend to align with expected return patterns, though without statistical significance.Forecasting models (ARIMAX, VAR) did not demonstrate incremental predictive power of the FGI compared to autoregressive benchmarks. Out-of-sample tests confirmed that point forecasts on a daily basis are not reliable. However, rule-based trading strategies, especially the “RiskOff” approach (no investment when FGI ≤ 20), proved practical: they improved risk-return profiles and reduced drawdowns relative to buy-and-hold. Procyclical rules further smoothed portfolio performance. The findings suggest that the FGI should not be viewed as a precise forecasting tool for daily returns but rather as a barometer of market sentiment and a risk management instrument. Thus, the thesis underscores the relevance of sentiment indicators in behavioral finance while also highlighting their methodological limitations in predicting short-term market movements.eingereicht von: David MaierAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung von der:dem Verfasser:inMasterarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

Return to sports - inverse schaftfreie Schulterprothese vs. anatomische Totalprothese

    No full text
In addition to anatomical total shoulder arthroplasty (aTSA), stemless shoulder prostheses have become an established treatment method and have subsequently been developed into reverse configurations as reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA). Stemless shoulder prostheses use a humeral implant without a stem, fixed metaphysically. A significant increase in the number of shoulder implantations has been observed, with a clear trend toward improved mobility and a significant enhancement in the Constant-Murley Score and Return-to-Sport ability for both anatomical and reverse prostheses. Objectives:The aim of this bachelor thesis is to draw conclusions regarding the Return to Sports (RTS) or physical activity by comparing aTSA and RTSA, and to develop physiotherapeutic recommendations for postoperative care. Results The literature reviewed for this thesis emphasizes not only the functional differences between the types of prostheses but also the importance of physiotherapeutic care. The RTS rate is high for both types of prosthesis and is 93% after aTSA and 83% after RSA. RTSA is the preferred treatment method, especially for patients with rotator cuff arthropathy. Postoperative results are promising in terms of pain, function and quality of life for patients. In one study, the CS increased from 57 to 90 points for aTSA and from 55 to 84 points for RSA. The ROM also improved significantly with both prosthesis designs. In one study, flexion increased from 96° to 148° with aTSA (p=0.005) and from 67° to 142° with RSA (p=0.007). In another study, elevation increased from 98° to 109° after RSA (p=0.01). A significant decrease in pain was observed in 5 studies. Rehabilitation after RSA should improve kinematics with a focus on stabilization of the scapula and deltoid control. Since the altered biomechanics increase the efficiency of the deltoid muscle to compensate for the deficient rotator cuff. Conclusion:Based on the current state of research, both aTSA and RTSA (or RSA) demonstrate good, adapted sport functionality. An individualized therapy, considering the specific type of prosthesis, postoperative functional capacity, and the goals of the patient, appear particularly important to achieve optimal outcomes.(355 words)Verfasserin: Julia Maria PoláčikBachelorarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

Developing a brand-driven content strategy for an event singer to establish in the competitive wedding industry

    No full text
The business tackled in this thesis faces the challenge of new establishment and entering a new market. Esch et. al. (2019, p. 5) describe that a strong brand identity is important and beneficial especially in highly competitive markets, as it is true for this business case. A clear focus on brand building and brand-driven content is therefore the tool of choice to tackle this market situation. Answering the needs of personal connection and likeability as the most important decisive factor, the brand is rooted in the person behind the business. As a brand gets conveyed via all touchpoints, consistency across all channels is vital, as described in the consumer-psychology model of Schmitt (2012, p. 12), that emphasizes that consistency pays into the success of a brand. The thesis uses the method of brand card sorting, developed by Bloomstein (2012, pp. 31–34), to define communication goals. The created message architecture gives a guideline for visual, verbal and behavioural brand aspects. With a research-based content strategy, the brand can be conveyed goal-oriented, as content builds an important part of brand communication. In the thesis, the consumer-psychology-model is also used as psychological base for the understanding of the customer journey concept - especially important for new brands as in this thesis because it describes the path from being an unknown brand to a person to being a brand where the person actively participates in the community. Customer journey models describe the phases from not being aware of the brand to being a loyal customer from a more business-related viewpoint. As Grunert (2019, pp. 182–184) emphasizes, the customer journey models are not to be viewed from a generalist perspective but rather put into context with the specific customer needs and challenges. Therefore, the previous persona research is integrated into the content strategy framework for this thesis. Previous market and competitor analysis that is extended within this thesis relates to the conducted research of this thesis, which focuses on further understanding the market, and the customer groups relevant for the business (B2B and B2C) so that the findings can be used to establish customer journeys for both customer segments and a well-founded SWOT-analysis. This strategic base feeds the branddriven content strategy framework that gives specific recommendations for channels, brand tonality and behavioural aspects to serve newly established businesses in the Austrian wedding industry. The combination of audience and market (external factors and goals) with the message architecture (internal goals) gives strategic guidance for content topics and content types.Laura SchuttiMasterarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

    No full text
Mining is an energy-intensive industry with a significant impact on global climate performance. Against the backdrop of increasing sustainability requirements, the systematic assessment of greenhouse gas emissions along the value chain is gaining importance. The aim of this thesis was to calculate and compare the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of two mineral processing methods at Aspanger Bergbau und Mineralwerke GmbH in terms of their environmental performance. The methodology followed the ISO 14067 and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, incorporating all Scope 1, Scope 2, and selected Scope 3 emissions, which were converted into CO₂ equivalents. The findings show that the drying and extrusion steps contribute significantly to the overall emission profile of the product groups Mica and Aspolit. A comparison with a future process that eliminates these energy-intensive steps reveals considerable emission reduction potential. This study emphasizes the practical relevance of sustainable process optimization and provides a data-driven foundation for strategic decision-making in the raw materials sector. From a scientific perspective, it contributes to the advancement of PCF assessment in complex industrial settings, highlighting the potential of robust carbon footprinting as a management tool. The direct comparison of two real-world processing methods within a specific industrial context forms the novelty of this work.Verfasser: Moritz PürrerAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung von der:dem Verfasser:inBachelorarbeit FH JOANNEUM 202

Journal of Advanced Nursing / Factors Influencing the Development of Patient Safety Culture in the Undergraduate Nursing Student Population — an Integrative Review

    No full text
Aims: To identify factors that influence the development of patient safety culture among nursing students. Design: Integrative review. Methods: A comprehensive literature search for publications from 2004 to 2024 was conducted using PubMed, LIVIVO,CINAHL, SCOPUS, and ERIC. A summarising content analysis was performed on 47 articles. Results: Students value patient safety but need guidance, supervision, structured education, supportive environments, interdisciplinary curricula, simulation training, and error-reporting training. Teamwork fosters learning, but hierarchical cultures, poor mentorship, unclear roles, stress, negative experiences, and bullying hinder communication and students' willingness to speak up. Emotions, identity, socialisation, and resilience shape students' safety practices, confidence, and advocacy. Conclusion: Enhancing nursing education, clinical environments, and policies is vital to patient safety practices among student nurses. Integrating comprehensive patient safety education, reflective learning, and structured transition programmes can bridge gaps between theory and practice, fostering critical thinking and confidence. Cultivating non-punitive cultures and collaboration across institutions and professions ensures learning, mutual support, and safer care delivery, with future research needed to assess long-term patient safety culture development. Impact: No comprehensive review has yet examined all factors influencing the development of patient safety culture in under-graduate nursing students. This review addresses this gap. Understanding these factors can foster a sustainable safety culture, reduce student stress, and guide improvements in education and clinical practice. Inadequate safety integration into curricula, hierarchical dynamics, and mentorship gaps risk undermining patient safety. By synthesising evidence from multiple studies, it yields comprehensive insights for both educational and clinical settings. The findings have important implications for educators, policymakers, and healthcare organisations, guiding improvements in curricula, teaching methods, and clinical learning environments to foster a robust patient safety culture from the beginning oftraining. Reporting Method: This study followed EQUATOR and PRISMA reporting guidelines for systematic reviews. Patient or Public Contribution: No patient or public involvement.Judy Gore, Berta SchremsVersion of recor

NXP is continuously conducting research in the field of NFC, with a particular focus on secure car access systems. The objective of this thesis is to establish a comprehensive benchmark for the two NFC frontend ICs, NCx3320 and NCx3321, which are utilised in NFC readers. The three reference antennas from NXP – the doorhandle antenna, the WHC antenna and the NFC charging antenna – are examined under different matching variants, including symmetrical and asymmetrical matching, as well as different impedances and quality factors. The thesis initially demonstrates the simulation process employed to generate the desired electrical characteristics of the antennas, followed by a detailed exposition of their operational implementation. The subsequent description provides a comprehensive overview of the test infrastructure, which is based on Comprion's NFC Forum analogue test solution. This includes a detailed definition of test points and a thorough explanation of the test procedures that have been utilised. The tests performed included measurements of RF power emission, modulation characteristics, field activation and deactivation, and load modulation response. Finally, the measurement results are evaluated and analysed to identify differences in the behaviour of the two ICs in combination with the various antenna configurations.
