Data used in the PhD thesis 'SeaCoat - Marine based edible coatings for minimally processed fruit'

    Get PDF
This dataset contains data obtained from experimental work on the physical and chemical properties and bioactivities of fresh-cut apples and pears coated with an edible coating containing extract of the seaweed Codium tomentosum. The data was obtained using a spectrophotometer microplate reader, a homogenizer, a Chroma Meter, a centrifuge, a gas analyser (Oxybaby), a digital refractometer, a texture analyser (TA.XTplus), and a thermocycling CFX ConnectTM Real-Time PCR System (Bio-Rad)

Combined eye-tracking and think-aloud data relating to how native-Chinese speakers process coreferential noun phrases in English-language academic texts

    Get PDF
This dataset consists of two parts. The first part contains eye-movement data reflecting the reading times gathered when native-Chinese speakers processed coreferential noun phrases which (i) either did or did not contain a grammatical determiner, and (ii) either did or did not contain a semantically incongruent word. The second part consists of the transcripts from think-aloud interviews which were conducted subsequent to the eye-tracking experiment to investigate how readers at different levels of proficiency processed the coreferential noun phrases

The SPECIAL Modern Pollen Data Set for Climate Reconstructions, version 2 (SMPDSv2)

    Get PDF
The dataset contains counts for the 5333 pollen taxa from individual modern samples from around the world and supporting metadata about each sample. The dataset has been specifically designed to make quantitative reconstructions of climate and vegetation parameters

Legibility of Chinese-English direction signs: how the spatial presentation of bilingual typography in two different scripts affects sign legibility

    Get PDF
Chinese-English bilingual traffic signs (CEBTS) are widely applied in public spaces in China. However, few studies have addressed the design of bilingual signs using two different scripts. The main research question is how can sign legibility be improved by the spatial presentation of bilingual location name(s) comprised of Chinese and English. The dataset was collected to examine the effects of adjusting the spatial presentation of Chinese/English legends on CEBTS legibility. The adjustments include changes in connecting spacing (vertical distance connects Chinese/English into a bilingual legend)(Study A), separating spacing (vertical spacing separates bilingual legends) (Study B), and text alignment (Study C)

Fog modification experiment by aircraft ion emission

    No full text
An experiment investigating the release of charge from an Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV) into clear and foggy air was conducted at Bottom Barn Farm, near Castle Cary in Somerset, UK (51.09788°N, 2.486905°W), in February/March 2021. This archive contains data files from the surface measuring instruments deployed and from the aircraft systems and data loggers, during four flights undertaken. At the surface, measurements of droplet concentration were made with a Light Optical Aerosol Counter (LOAC) and atmospheric electric field with a JCI131 electric field mill

Pear phenology and climate data from 1960-2020, Kent, UK

    Get PDF
This dataset contains flowering times (in Julian days) of 12 different pear cultivars from 1960-2020 collated from the National Institute of Agricultural Botany East Malling Research (NIAB EMR) in East Malling, Kent and the National Fruit Collection in Brogdale. There are four different phenological stages included: - First flowering; when the first flower is open on the pear tree (First_and_ten_flowering.csv) - Ten percent flowering, when 10% of flowers are open on the pear tree (First_and_ten_flowering.csv) - Full flowering, when over 50% of flowers have opened on the tree(Full_flowering.csv); - Last flowering, when 90% of petals have fallen (Last_flowering.csv) Alongside this weather variables including maximum, minimum and mean temperatures for each month, total monthly rainfall, total monthly frost days, January-April average mean temperature and January-April total frost days, used within the principal components analysis (PCA) and linear mixed models (LMM). Weather variables were calculated using Met Office data from Brogdale and East Malling weather stations. The data set also contains frost days Jan-Apr and mean Jan-Apr temperature predicted for 2080, for 4 different Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP ) scenarios, calculated using data from the UK Climate Projections User Interface

Electrical aspects of rainfall generation - supporting field data

    No full text
This dataset contains atmospheric electric field, visibility and aerosol backscatter from a ceilometer during a field campaign as part of the project 'Electrical aspects of rainfall generation'. The measurements were obtained at Al Ain airport (24°15' N, 55°37' E), United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 2018-2022

Changes in climate trends and velocities, forest loss and population density between 2001-2018 in India's districts

    No full text
This dataset provides information on the average climate change and forest loss over time for 577 districts in India between 2001-2018. The dataset has numerous climate variables that provide information on how temporal trends and velocities of temperature and precipitation have changed over time. This climate data was created based on raw data from the Climate Research Unit (https://crudata.uea.ac.uk/cru/data/hrg/). The trends are shown for both annual and seasonal data. Further to this, there is data on the amount of forest loss between 2001-2018 derived from the Hansen Global Forest Change Dataset (https://storage.googleapis.com/earthenginepartners-hansen/GFC-2020-v1.8/download.html). Thirdly, there is data on the change in population density over time derived from SEDAC CIESIN data (https://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu/data/collection/gpw-v4). This full dataset can be used to compare changes in climate and population density in India's districts with forest loss

Reconstructions of the radiation fluxes at the top of atmosphere and net surface energy flux: DEEP-C Version 5.0

    Get PDF
In order to study the energy flow in the climate system, the radiative fluxes (OLR: Outgoing Longwave Radiation, ASR: Absorbed Solar Radiation, NET: Net Radiative Flux) at the top of atmosphere (TOA) prior to the CERES (Clouds and the Earths Radiant Energy System) period have been reconstructed using satellite observations of CERES v4.1 and ERBS WFOV v3.0 (Earth Radiation Budget Experiment Satellite Wide Field Of View), atmospheric reanalysis (ERA5: the fifth generation ECMWF ReAnalysis) and AMIP6 (the sixth phase of the coupled model intercomparison project) model simulations. The new approach using the mass-corrected atmospheric energy divergencies (transports) and consistent enthalpy treatment of water substances is employed to estimate the net surface energy fluxes. This is version 5.0 of the DEEP-C dataset. CERES version 4.1 and ERBS WFOV version 3.0 are used. The TOA flux anomaly is constrained by WFOV anomaly in each 10 degree x 10 degree grid box. The atmospheric energy transport is based on the new enthalpy treatment of water substances described in Mayer et al. (2017), 'Toward consistent diagnostics of the coupled atmosphere and ocean energy budgets', Journal of Climate 30(22): 9225-9246. https://doi.org/10.1175/JCLI-D-17-0137.1
