ASSESSMENT OF THE PLATEAU STATE SMALL CLAIMS COURT PROCEDURE AS A MECHANISM FOR QUICK DETERMINATION OF COMMERCIAL DISPUTES
The need to secure speedy determination of cases bordering on debt recovery from commercial transactions has a long history. Quick, easy and non-complicated approach to the resolution of disputes undoubtedly promotes the ease of doing business. Globally, efforts have been made overtime to put the mechanism in place to address that need through procedural reforms and measures. The aim of this work is to assess the Plateau State Small Claims Court procedure encapsulated in the District Court Law Practice Direction, 2022. It then becomes pertinent to determine what the procedure seeks to achieve, how best the aspirations of the business community have been met by the law and the bottlenecks, if any, that litigants face. A doctrinal approach was adopted to undertake the study. The work finds that the small claims procedure is quite innovative and, if applied and implemented deliberately, it is capable of revolutionizing the ease of doing business. The work recommends the deployment of adequate personnel and infrastructure to make the court efficient and fully functional for quick disposal of cases pending before the court
Response of Stream Flow peak to Climate Change in Kainji and Shiroro Hydroelectric Power Generations, Niger State, Nigeria
Climate changes impact hydrological processes and control stream flow at the basin scale. This study was carried out to examine the potential influence of climate change on stream flow peaks in Kainji and Shiroro Hydropower Projects, Niger State for the period 1967-2017. The study uses long term historical data on rainfall, minimum and maximum air temperature, runoff peak discharge and evapotranspiration to investigate observed hydro-climatic variability and climate change. The Mann–Kendall and Sen’s slope estimator tests were used to detect monotonic trends in the hydro-climatic variables and their magnitude with MAKESENS_1_0 software. The contribution of climate changes to stream flow was revealed by climate elasticity model. The results showed an increasing trend in minimum and mean temperature, rainfall and stream flow while evapotranspiration and maximum temperature showed decreasing trend. Mean annual rainfall and runoff changes in Kainji and Shiroro showed an increasing trend that is statistically insignificant. The precipitation elasticity of stream flow was 1.0 in Shiroro and 0.99 in Kainji indicating that 1 percent change in precipitation caused a corresponding 1 percent increase in runoff and revealed that stream flow increases with increasing precipitation, whereas the evapotranspiration elasticity of stream flow is -0.12191in Kainji indicating that a 1 percent increase in potential evapotranspiration produces 0.122decrease in stream flow and -0.533 for Shiroro indicating a 1 percent increase in evapotranspiration results in 0.5 percent decrease in stream flow Peak due to rainfall events are increasing in both stations
Indoor Relative Humidity Characteristics in Selected Low-Income Buildings in the Different Ecological Belts of Rivers State: Implication for Thermal Comfort Condition
This study examined the indoor relative humidity (RH) characteristics of selected low-income residential buildings across three ecological belts (Derived Savannah, Coastal Vegetation, and Rain Forest) of Rivers State, Nigeria. The thrust of the study was to examine RH observed and implications for thermal comfort in low-income buildings in the area. The study deployed the experimental research design to establish the variation in Relative humidity characteristics in the area. RH data were collected from 15 three-bedroom bungalows (five per ecological belt) for a period of six months (January to June 2024). The Acurite 00613 data loggers with ±1% precision was used. Data were logged at four climatological hours daily (00:00, 06:00, 12:00, and 18:00). ANOVA was applied to determine the spatial variations in RH across the ecological belts. Results revealed that RH was high across all belts, and exceeded ASHRAE\u27s recommended 30–60% comfort range. Peak RH was recorded in June in the Derived Savannah (81.4% ± 1.11), followed by Coastal Vegetation (78.3% ± 1.17) and Rain Forest (76.9% ± 1.03). The lowest RH was in April in the Rain Forest (65.1% ± 1.24). Notably, March RH was highest in the Coastal belt (73.2% ± 1.14), with standard deviations ranging from ±0.89 to ±2.11 across the sampled months. ANOVA results showed statistically significant spatial RH difference in March (F = 8.4, p = .000) and June (F = 7.0, p = .001), but not in January, February, April, or May (at p > .05). A consistent diurnal RH pattern emerged with RH peaked at 00:00 hrs. (85% in June) and dropped by 12:00 hrs. (68%). Performed spatial mapping revealed highest RH in Khana, Andoni, and Ahoada West (69.58%), and lowest in urbanized LGAs like Port Harcourt (65.72%). These findings emphasize the urgent need for ecologically responsive building designs targeted at managing the excess indoor humidity, while enhancing thermal comfort in low-income housing. 
EFFECT OF VIDEO-BASED LEARNING ON SENIOR SCHOOL STUDENTS\u27 ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN SOLVING LINEAR EQUATION WORD PROBLEMS IN AKKO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, GOMBE STATE
This research examined effect of video-based learning on senior school students\u27 academic achievement in solving linear equation word problems in Akko Local Government Area, Gombe State. Two research questions and three hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance guided the study. The research adopted a quasi-experimental design, specifically, pre-test and post-test non-randomized control group design. In a population of 5,036 senior secondary class two students, (3,006 males and 2,030 females) in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State, Nigeria, a sample of 70 students (40 males and 30 females) offering mathematics were selected from two out of the 16 public secondary schools in the LGA. A multistage sampling procedure was used to sample the participants namely: purposive sampling, simple random sampling and lucky dip without replacement techniques. Mathematics Achievement Test on Linear Equation Involving Word Problems (MATLEIWP) was used for data collection. Three experts validated the instruments. The reliability of the MAT was established using Kudder-Richardson 20 Formula, yielding coefficient of 0.82. The experimental and control groups were taught using researchers’ developed video model and conventional instructional strategy respectively. Mean and Standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while the hypotheses were tested using ANCOVA at 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that, video-based learning enhanced students\u27 achievement, gender does not have significant effect on the students’ achievement and interaction effect of method and gender was not significant on achievement in solving linear equation involving word problems. The study concludes that video based learning is effective in improving the achievement of SS 2 students in mathematics Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that; teachers should adopt video based learning strategy in teaching mathematics for improved achievement and students should also be engaged in learning using video based learning strategy on a regular basis. 
ENHANCING SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS’ KNOWLEDGE RETENTION IN MATHEMATICS USING THINK-PAIR-SHARE INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGY IN MATHEMATICS IN ONITSHA EDUCATION ZONE, ANAMBRA STATE
This study investigated effect of Think-Pair-Share instructional strategy on students’ knowledge retention in circle geometry in Onitsha Education Zone of Anambra State. The study was guided by two research questions and three null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted a quasi-experimental research design, specifically, the pre-test, post-test non-equivalent control group design. The population of the study comprised 5,056 senior secondary two (SS2) students offering Mathematics in State Government-owned secondary schools in Onitsha education zone of Anambra state. A sample of 80 senior secondary school two (SS2) Mathematics Students selected using multi-stage sampling approach was used for the study. The instrument for data collection was the Mathematics Retention Test (MRT) which was validated by three experts and tested for reliability using Kuder-Richardson (KR-20) formula which yielded a reliability index of 0.85. Data collected were analysed using mean, standard deviation and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The findings of the study revealed among others that there was a significant difference between the mean retention scores of students taught circle geometry using ThinkPair-Share and those taught using Direct Instruction method in favour of the experimental group. In conclusion, students taught circle geometry using the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) instructional strategy achieved higher mean scores in retention compared to those taught using the Direct Instruction Method. Based on the findings, it was recommended, among others, that mathematics teachers should incorporate TPS as a primary instructional strategy, particularly, when teaching complex geometric concepts and also workshops and training should be organized for mathematics teachers to enhance their pedagogical skills in implementing TPS effectively. 
HARNESSING TECHNOLOGY FOR EFFECTIVE SCIENCE TEACHING PEDAGOGIES IN HIGHER INSTITUTIONS IN NIGERIA IN AN ERA OF INSECURITY AND ECONOMIC MELTDOWN.
The study investigated Harnessing Technology for Effective Science Teaching Pedagogies in Higher Institutions of Learning in Nigerian in an era of Insecurity and Economic Meltdown. This is a descriptive survey study. The study was carried out in Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, South East Nigeria. To guide the research, three questions were formulated by the researchers. The population of the study comprises of all teaching staff members from faculty of education Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 125 teaching staff from Science Education, Health Education and Human Kinetics departments in Faculty of Education at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka for the study. Data collection was done using a validated questionnaire instruments on Harnessing Technology for Effective Science Teaching Pedagogies in Higher Institutions in an era of Insecurity and Economic Meltdown (HTESTPHILEIEM), consisting of 25 items which were distributed and were collected on the spot to ensure that the instruments returned completely. The reliability index was determined by administering the questionnaire to 20 teaching staff from the science education, Health Education and Human Kinetics department in faculty of Education at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, yielding an impressive coefficient of 0.86 through Cronbach Alpha technique coefficient analysis. Mean and standard deviation was used to answers the research questions. The findings of this study showed established that technology-enhanced pedagogies for science teaching in higher institutions of learning were effective, infrastructural requirements are needed for the successful integration of technology-enhanced pedagogies into science teaching in higher institutions of learning and, that educator support is needed for successful integration of technology-enhanced pedagogies into science teaching in higher institutions of learning in an era of insecurity and economic meltdown. Based on the findings, recommendations were made among which are that higher institution in Nigeria should endeavour to have technological infrastructures and facilitate regular training of teachers on the effective ways of integrating technology for effective science teaching pedagogies in our institutions of learning in the best interest of our nation and our students in particular.  
EFFECT OF NUMBER LINE SYSTEM GAME IN TEACHING AND LEARNING OF ARITHMETIC TO BASIC FOUR PUPILS IN IHIALA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, ANAMBRA STATE
This study investigated into the effect of the use of number line system game in teaching and learning of arithmetic to primary four pupils in Ihiala L.G.A. of Anambra State. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The design of the study was a quasi – experimental research design. The population was seven hundred and sixty-five (765) primary four pupils in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State. Two primary schools and two intact classes were selected using simple random sampling techniques by balloting method out of 23 primary schools in Ihiala L.G.A..The Number Line System Game Achievement Test (NLSGAT) which consist of twenty (20) multiple choice questions was used for data collection. The experimental group was taught arithmetic using the number line system game while the control group was taught the same content using the conventional method. The research questions formulated were analyzed using mean and standard deviation while the two hypotheses were tested using Z-test. Findings to this study revealed that; pupils taught arithmetic using the number line system game performed better than their counterparts taught without using the number line system game. The result also revealed that there was no significant difference between the mean achievement scores of male and female pupils taught with number line system game. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that the school administrators, stakeholders and government should encourage the use of number line system game in the teaching of arithmetic to primary school pupils in Anambra State. 
Gender Stereotypes and Female Invisibility Amongst Hausa Women Migrants in Awka South LGA
In this study, we investigated perceived gender stereotypes and women invisibility amongst Hausa women migrants in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria. The study explored the impact of gender stereotypes on Hausa migrant women and how these stereotypes contribute to the invisibility of Hausa migrant women in the study area. Using the snowball sampling technique, 20 Hausa women were selected from the Hausa communities in Awka and Amawbia. Semi-structured interviews were administered to the 20 selected women. The interviews were qualitatively analyzed and four themes bothering on education, early marriage, political participation and engagement with jobs or business activities were identified as common experiences amongst these women. The findings indicated that Hausa women migrants are subjected to stereotyping resulting from religio-cultural differences and this has led to their invisibility in the study area. We concluded that while it is pertinent and urgent to end Hausa migrant women stereotyping, interventions to address these issues must also target the underlying structural factors that shape these experiences
Causes and Impacts of Economic Migration of Nigerian Professionals to Canada
Brain drain represents a critical development challenge for Nigeria, with thousands of skilled professionals emigrating annually to developed nations. This study examined the causes and multidimensional impacts of economic migration of Nigerian professionals to Canada between 2019 and 2024. Using a systematic literature review methodology, we analyzed 45 peer-reviewed articles, government reports, and statistical databases to identify push-pull factors, assess impacts on Nigeria and Canada, and evaluate migrant outcomes. Key findings revealed that inadequate remuneration (cited in 82% of studies), poor working conditions (76%), political instability (68%), and security concerns (63%) constitute primary push factors. Pull factors included higher salaries in Canada (averaging 5-8 times Nigerian equivalents), superior infrastructure, political stability, and quality of life. Nigeria experiences severe impacts including critical healthcare workforce shortages (estimated 23,000 physicians lost since 2019), annual fiscal losses of approximately 2.4 billion annually), diaspora networks, and knowledge transfer could transform this into brain circulation. We recommend improving Nigeria\u27s economic conditions, strengthening institutions, enhancing professional development opportunities, and developing bilateral agreements facilitating temporary migration and return programs.
