MANAGERS’ RATING OF HUMAN RELATION SKILLS NEEDED BY BUSINESS EDUCATION GRADUATES FOR SUSTAINABILITY OF SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES IN IMO STATE
This study ascertained human relation skills needed by business education graduates forsustainability of SMEs in Imo State. One research question guided the study while two nullhypotheses were tested. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. Thesstudy was carried out in Imo State. The population of this study comprised 130 SMEs registeredwith the Imo State chamber of Commerce and Industry as at 2019. The entire population of 130registered SMEs was used for the study since the size is considered manageable. Data for thestudy was collected using a validated research questionnaire. Cronbach Alpha was used todetermine the internal consistency of the instrument which yielded a reliability coefficient valueof 0.81. Arithmetic mean and standard deviation was used to answer research questions anddetermine the homogeneity or otherwise of the respondents’ ratings. The t-test and Analysis ofVariance (ANOVA) was used to test the null hypotheses. The findings of the study revealedamong others that applying positive reinforcement when relating with others, developing goodcustomer orientation for effective operation, persuading customers and stakeholder as expectedwere highly needed human relations skill. The finding also revealed that there was no significantdifference in the mean responses of SME managers on human relation skills needed by businesseducation graduates for sustainability of SMEs based on their years of experience. Based on thefindings, it was recommended among others that business education graduates should attendmore workshops, seminars, and conferences that emphasizes on the importance of humanrelations skills for sustainability of SMEs
ASSESSMENT OF DATABASE MANAGEMENT AND WEBPAGE DESIGN COMPETENCIES POSSESSED BY OFFICE TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT GRADUATE WORKERS IN NORTH-WEST NIGERIA POLYTECHNICS
The need to improve computer application competencies of graduates of Office Technology and Management (OTM) programme based on persistent complaints on their lack of the relevant competencies by employers necessitated this study on administrative supervisors’ assessment of database management and webpage design competencies possessed by OTM graduate workers in North-West Nigeria polytechnics.Two research questions guided the study and four null hypotheses were tested.Descriptive survey research design was used for the study.Thepopulation was 378 administrative supervisors in state and federal polytechnics. The population was used as sample. A structured 5-point rating scale questionnaire containing 36 items in two clusters was validated by three experts from the Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and used for data collection. The reliability of the instrument was established using split-half with Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient formula and reliability co-efficient value of 0.78 was obtained. Mean and standard deviation were employed to answer the research questions and determine the homogeneity of the respondents’ views while t-test wasused to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that the OTM graduate workers possessed database management competencies at a moderate level and possessed webpage design competencies at a little level. Gender and ownership of the institution influenced the respondents’ views on database management competencies of the OTM graduate workers but did not on webpage design competencies. Based on the findings, it was concluded that the OTM graduate workers in polytechnics in North-West Nigeria do not possess the relevant competencies for effective utilization of database management and webpage design applications. It was, therefore, recommended among others that OTM graduate workers in North-West Nigeria Polytechnics should seek out and utilize selfsponsored opportunities to improve their level of competencies in the two applications to enable them perform their duties effectively
APPRAISAL OF EMPLOYEE RECRUITMENT PRACTICES OF SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE ENTERPRISES MANAGERS IN DELTA STATEFOR IMPROVED PERFORMANCE
The study appraised employee recruitment practices utilized by managers of smalland medium scale enterprises (SMSEs) for improved performance in Delta State.One research question guided the study and two hypotheses were tested.Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The study was carried out inDelta State of Nigeria. The decision to use Delta State for the study is informed bythe fact that the state has many SMSEs which are experiencing reduction inbusiness size, slow expansion rate and even business failure. Population for thestudy consisted of 420 managers of SMSEs in the general business service sectoroperating in Delta State. The entire population was used in the study withoutsampling. A structured questionnaire comprising seven items which was validatedby three experts in the field was used to collect data. Mean and standard deviationwere used to answer the research question and determine the closeness of therespondents’ mean while Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and t-test were used intesting the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed thatmanagers of SMEs in Delta State utilize employee recruitment practices to amoderate extent. It was also revealed that years of business experience and genderof the respondents did not significantly influence their mean ratings. Based onthese findings, it was recommended among others, that managers of SMSEs shouldmake concerted efforts to improve their employee recruitment process and systemsthrough purchase and reading of books and journals on employee recruitmentpractices. It was also recommended that the National Association for Small andMedium Scale Entrepreneurs (NASME) should organize conferences andworkshops for her members in order to educate them on the importance ofrecruiting the right employees in their organization
EXTENT OF AVAILABILITY AND UTILIZATION OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES IN BUSINESS EDUCATION PROGRAMME OF COLLEGES OF EDUCATION IN DELTA STATE
The study examined the extent of availability and utilization of information andcommunication technology resources in business teacher education programme ofcolleges of education in Delta State, Nigeria. Two research questions guided thestudy and two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The studyadopted descriptive survey design. The entire population of 114 business educationlecturers in all the four colleges of education in Delta State was used for the studywithout sampling. Data was collected for the study through direct observation bythe researcher using NCCE benchmark and administration of a validatedquestionnaire on the respondents. The reliability of the questionnaire wasestablished using Cronbach Alpha formula which yielded a reliability coefficient of0.801. Frequency count and simple percentage were used to answer researchquestion one and mean and standard deviation were used to answer researchquestion two. t-test statistic was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level ofsignificance. The findings of the study revealed that ICT resourcesas stipulated bythe benchmark of NCCE for business education programmes were not available incolleges of education in Delta State. Business educators’ rarely utilized ICTresources in business teacher education programmes in colleges of education inDelta State. The study further disclosed that business educators in colleges ofeducation did not differ significantly in their mean ratings on the extent ofutilization of ICT resources in business education programmes based oninstitutional ownership and location. The study concluded that the inadequacy andlow level of utilization of ICT resources by business educators will negativelyaffected the technological competencies of business education students to succeedand curve a niche of their own in the digitalized business world. It wasrecommended among others that management of colleges of education should enter into partnership with ICT manufacturing organizations to assist in improvingthe supply of ICT resources in business education programme. This is to enhancebusiness education students’ academic performance and boost the qualityassurance indices of the programme
STRATEGIES CONSIDERED EFFECTIVE FOR TEACHING ENTREPRENEURSHIPBY BUSINESS SUBJECT TEACHERS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ANAMBRA STATE
This study sought to ascertain the opinions of business subject teachers on thestrategies considered effective for teaching entrepreneurship in secondary schools inAnambra State. Two research questions and four hypotheses guided the study.Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The populationcomprised 513 business subject teachers. A sample size of 244 business subjectteachers was selected for the study using simple random sampling technique. Astructured and validated questionnaire with 18 items was used for data collection.Mean was used to answer the research questions while standard deviation was usedto check how close or otherwise of the respondents responses to the mean. t-test andANOVA were used to test the hypotheses. Findings of the study revealed that the useof information and communication technology and school-industry partnership werehighly effective strategies for teaching entrepreneurship. Based on the findings of thestudy, it was concluded that information and communication technology strategiesand school industrial collaboration strategies are considered highly effective forteaching entrepreneurship. It was also concluded that gender and type of school donot affect the strategies considered effective for teaching entrepreneurship. It wasrecommended amongst others that, the Anambra State Government should providefunds for secondary school management, regular training and retraining programmesof business subject teachers both in public secondary schools to enable them updatetheir ICT skills so as to utilize new technologies for instructional purposes
APPRAISAL OF MANAGEMENT PRACTICES OF NATIONAL EXAMINATIONS COUNCILIN NIGERIA
The purpose of the study was to appraise the management practices of NationalExaminations Council (NECO) on personnel, infrastructural and financial management ofCouncil fund. Three research questions and three null hypotheses guided the study. Thepopulation were 154NECO Senior administrative staff and 44Heads of Departmentmakinga total of 198 respondents. There was no sampling carried out because the populationwas small so the entire population was used. The design of the study was a descriptivesurvey. The research instrument was a questionnaire titled “Appraisal of Managementpractices questionnaire (AMPQ) and was validated by experts. The instrument wasassessed for reliability using internal consistency of Cronback Alpha method. Thereliability coefficient obtained yielded 0.92. The data obtained were organized andanalyzed using the mean and standard deviation to answer research questions and t-testto test the null hypotheses. Some of the major finding revealed that NECO managementadhered to the regulation system (manual) in the personnel, infrastructural, and financialmanagement of the Council. The hypotheses tested indicated no significant difference inthe mean rating of both NECO senior administrative staff and heads of Department on theextent to which NECO management adhered to the regulation system (manual) onpersonnel, infrastructural and financial management ofthe Council. Based on the findings,the researcher recommended that NECO management should continue to be guided byNECO rules and regulation in personnel, infrastructural and financial management of theCouncilamong others
RELEVANCE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL ACCOUNTING CURRICULUM TO THE JOBS PERFORMED BY ENTRY-LEVEL ACCOUNTING SECONDARY SCHOOL GRADUATES IN ENUGU STATE
This study was carried out to determine relevance of secondary school accountingcurriculum to the jobs performed by entry-level accounting secondary school graduates inEnugu State. Two research questions guided the study. The study adopted survey researchdesign. The population of the study was 144 accounting supervisors in both private andpublic establishments in Enugu State. The instrument for data collection was a 100 itemquestionnaire which was developed by the researcher. The instrument was duly validated bythree (3) expertsin test and measurement which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.69 usingcronbach. Research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation, while thenull hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level ofsignificance using t-test statistic. It wasfound outfrom the study that out of 50 content areas in secondary school accounting curriculum, 28were relevant in securing accounting positions in business officesin Enugu State. It was alsofound out from the study that 28 out of 50 items were jobs performed by entry-levelsecondary school graduates in business offices in Enugu State. Based on the findings, it wasrecommended that educators and curriculum planners should work closely withestablishments to develop current curricula content for schools. Accounting tutors shouldalso be given the opportunity to work in accounting offices during long vacations to enablethemup-date their knowledge

EXTENT BANK COLLATERAL SECURITY DEMAND ON LOANS AFFECT THE GROWTH OF SMALL SCALE ENTERPRISES IN ONITSHA, ANAMBRA STATE
Small scale enterprises are catalyst in achieving nation\u27s economic objectives, but not without constraintsthat impede their growth. This paper ascertained the extent bank collateral Security demandon loansaffectthegrowthofsmallscaleenterprisesinOnitsha,Anambra State.Oneresearch question guided the study, whileone null hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance. Descriptive survey research design was adoptedforthestudyand a population of352 owners ofsmall scale enterprisesin Onitsha,Anambra State was used forthe study. Data were collected for the study using validated structured questionnaire on a five -point ratingscale. The internal consistency of the instrument yielded an index value of 0.83, which was established withCronbach Co-efficient Alpha. The findings of the study revealed among others that bank collateral securitiesdemands on loan affected the growth of small scale enterprises at moderate, low and very low extents.However, the study showed that gender did not affect the opinion of the small scale enterprises on theextent collateral security demand affect the growth of their enterprisesin Onitsha, Anambra State. Based onthe findings of the study, it was recommended among others that entrepreneurs\u27 in Onitsha, Anambra Stateshould embark on capacity building of their members to ensure better understanding of financialinstitutionsrequirementsforloanand thecollateraldemandsonthem
Work-Family Conflict and Work Stress of Library Personnel at the University of Lagos, Lagos State
This paper aims to examine the relationships between work-family conflict on the work stress of library personnel at the University of Lagos. The theoretical framework for this survey research is focused on spillover theory. For an in-depth perspective of the issues, data were collected using questionnaires and interviews. Spearman\u27s rho correlation coefficient was used to test relationships between work-family conflict and family-work conflict (independent variables) on library personnel\u27s work stress (dependent variable). Multiple regression analysis was employed to determine the composite effect of the independent variables on the dependent variable. The results showed a positive significant correlation between work-family conflict and work stress a positive significant relationship between family-work conflict and work stress. The result also revealed that work-family conflict is independently related significantly to work stress, but family-work conflict is not a significant predictor of work stress among library personnel. This paper explores the relationships between work-family conflict and work stress, family-work conflict and work stress of library personnel at the University of Lagos. It contributes to understanding the work-family conflict and family-work conflict in the library. The findings can help practitioners in the field of librarianship to develop and implement the best practices to create a balance in work and family, which consequently will reduce work stress
