EFFECT OF PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN BIOLOGY IN OYE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, EKITI STATE
This study investigates the effect of practical activities on the academic performance of senior secondary school biology students in Oye Local Government Area, Ekiti State. The study adopted the quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test research design. The population of the study comprised all the 1,455 biology students in public senior secondary schools in Oye Local Government Area, Ekiti State. The purposive sampling technique was employed to 2select two (2) schools in Oye local government area. A sample of 50 students with 25 each for the two groups was selected purposefully. Biology Performance Test (BPT) was used to collect data for the study. The instrument was subjected to face and content validity by the researcher\u27s supervisor and experts in the field of biology education. The test-retest method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument and a reliability coefficient of 0.84 was computed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The descriptive statistics of frequency counts, percentages, mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while the inferential statistics involving t-test analysis, was used to test the hypotheses. All the hypotheses were tested at a 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed that there is a significant difference in the performance mean scores of male students taught using intensive practical strategy compared to their counterparts taught using conventional teaching strategy. The difference favours the male students in the experimental group having a higher performance means score than their counterparts in the control group. Also, there is a significant difference in the performance mean scores of female students taught using intensive practical strategy compared to their counterparts taught using conventional teaching strategy. The difference favours the female students in the experimental group, having a higher performance means score than their counterparts in the control group. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others, that government and school administrator should encourage teachers to engage in professional developments that would ensure the use of intensive practical strategy in schools. Also, teacher should carry both gender (male and female) along during practical class so that both genders would develop the intensive practical strategy. Teachers should adopt intensive practical strategy for biology and other science instruction in secondary school
STUDY HABITS AND ACADEMIC PROCRASTINATION AS CORRELATES OF ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN AWKA, ANAMBRA STATE.
This study investigated study habits and academic procrastination as correlates of the academic performance of secondary school students in Awka. The study adopted a correlational research design and was guided by two research questions and two null hypotheses tested at the 0.05 significance level. A sample size of 560 (300 females; 260 males) was drawn through simple random sampling from the population of 1571 senior secondary class 2 students in the 8 public secondary schools in Awka. Three researcher-developed instruments were used for the study titled: Study Habits Questionnaire (SHQ) and Academic Procrastination Questionnaire (APQ) and Academic Performance Scale (APS) were used for the study. The SHQ and APQ were face and content validated, and the instrument\u27s reliability was determined using the test-retest method. The correlation coefficients obtained were 0.76 for study habits and 0.69 for academic procrastination. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to answer the research questions while Simple Regression Analysis was used to test the hypotheses. The study revealed that both study habits and academic procrastination have a positive relationship with the academic performance of secondary school students in Awka. It was recommended among others that students should be encouraged to develop good study habits and eschew procrastination for maximal success
Application of Education Law as Determinant of Principals’ Personnel Management Effectiveness in Public Secondary Schools in Imo State.
This study examined the application of education law as determinant of principals’ personnel management effectiveness in public secondary schools in Imo State. Two research questions guided the study and two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprises 5,286 teachers of public secondary schools in Imo State. Stratified random sampling technique was used to draw 529 teachers made up of 89 males and 440 females. The instrument was structured by the researchers and named “Application Education Law as Determinant of Principals’ Personnel Management Effectiveness Questionnaire” (AELDPPMEQ). The instrument was validated by three experts, two from the Department of Educational Management and policy while one from the Department of Educational Foundation. The reliability of the instrument was obtained through Pearson Moment Correlation Coefficient with index value of 0.82 which was considered high enough for the study. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while t-test was used test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significant. The findings of the study revealed among others that principals of schools in the study area to a high extent apply education law in their personnel management practices. It was then recommended among others that government should encourage principals to apply education law to make for their personnel management effectiveness

Mosquito species composition, diversity and relative abundance in Science Village, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria
Mosquitoes species diversity and abundance was studied at Science village, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria. To the best of our knowledge, no previous studies have been conducted on the species composition and abundance of mosquitoes in the study area. Given that mosquitoes can act as vectors for various diseases, including malaria, yellow fever, and dengue fever, understanding the species composition of mosquitoes in the study area is crucial in assessing the potential public health implications associated with each species present. The objectives of this study were to identify different species of mosquitoes and determine their abundance and diversity in the study area. The study adopted a descriptive survey and was carried out from March to June 2023. The area was divided into two sampling sites for convenience; site 1 and Site 2. Four methods were used to collect mosquito samples namely an ovitrap (for egg collection), light trap, human landing catch and knock-down method (Spray sheet collection method). The mosquitoes were identified using morphological methods and experts. Mosquito diversity was determined using Shannon Weiner indices, dominance was determined by Simpson\u27s dominance indices and species richness was determined using the Margalef species richness. A total of 440 mosquitoes comprising 5 species: Anopheles gambiae, Culex quinquefasciatus, Aedes aegypti, Aedes albopictus and Aedes luteocephalus, were identified during the study period. Out of the 5 species, C. quinquefasciatus was the highest (190/43.2 %) collected species followed by Ae. aegypti (111/25.2%), An. gambiae (s.l) (84/19.1 %), Ae. albopictus (54/12.3 %) and Ae., luteocephalus (1/0.2 %). Mosquito diversity was higher in site 1 (1.2779) than in site 2 (1.2313). The high rate of C. quinquefasciatus mosquito species is of utmost concern in this study because it is the vector of many pathogens to man and some domestic animals. It is, therefore, recommended that control measures aimed at eliminating the breeding sites and reducing their contact with the students and staff should be embraced and practised to minimize disease transmission among the students
Legal Framework for the Regulation of Abandonment and Decommissioning in Nigeria
The global recognition of the importance of decommissioning and restoring abandoned oil and gasinstallations is driven by the need to return ecosystems to their original state. Two factors in Nigeria makeit essential to consider the nation’s abandonment and decommissioning provisions. First, several onshoreoil fields are maturing. Secondly, many international oil companies (IOCs) are transferring their assets toindigenous companies with little proven competence in decommissioning and abandonment. Before thePetroleum Industry Act 2021 (PIA), Nigeria did not have a comprehensive legal framework for regulatingabandonment and decommissioning of oil and gas operations. However, the PIA has addressed this lacuna, along with accompanying regulations. This has necessitated research to assess the adequacy andeffectiveness of the laws regulating decommissioning oil and gas installations in Nigeria and their impacton mitigating environmental degradation risks. This study adopts an analytical approach using currentliterature to apply the doctrinal library-based legal technique. The study reveals that the primary legalframeworks have improved environmental protection, addressed concerns of host communities, andregulated post-exploration and exploitation activities in oil and gas fields in Nigeria. However, it alsohighlights the lack of enforcement and implementation structure. The paper concludes by recommendingthat the enforcement arm takes up the responsibility to implement the legal provisions on abandonment anddecommissioning to address abandonment and decommissioning effectively
TRIPS Compliance and Biotechnology Patenting in Africa: Lessons from India
This paper considers India’s obligation under the TRIPS Agreement 1994 (as amended) in relation tobiotechnology patents. Specifically, it examined how India has incorporated the TRIPS provisions into itspatent law to provide insights for African countries on meeting their international obligations whileconsidering their national interests in biotechnology research and innovation to address pertinent issuessuch as nutrition, food security and public healthcare. As in the past two decades, African countries havebeen amending their patent laws to bring them in conformity with the TRIPS Agreement 1994 (as amended),it is strongly recommended that they leverage the policy space under the TRIPS Agreement 1994 (asamended) like India to ensure nutrition, food security and public healthcare in the continent
A Critical Analysis of Air Passengers’ Protection in the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority Regulations (NCARs) 2023
Carriage of goods and passengers by air is the fastest means of transportation. It is also arguably the safestmeans of transportation. The primary objective of the regulators of air transportation is to ensure safetyand security of flights. The provisions of certain rules and regulations that guide the airlines, airportoperators and even the passengers are geared towards achieving this objective. Another primaryconsideration for air operators is the comfort of air passengers. Regulators are determined to earn, buildand sustain public confidence in the aviation sector by ensuring certainty and predictability in the contractof carriage by air. The NCARs 2023 is one of those regulations aimed at promoting the aviation sector.Part 19 of the NCARs deals specifically with the protection of air passengers/consumers and it is thefulcrum of this paper. The 2023 edition is an improvement on the 2015 NCARs. It introduced someinnovations. This paper found that the NCARs 2023 made adequate provisions for the protection of airpassengers with reduced mobility or disability. It also attempted to address the issue of delay of flights atthe tarmac. However, it failed to provide a seamless procedure for the determination of air passenger’scomplaints by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority by insisting on physical attendance for complainantsor their representatives. The paper accordingly recommends among others virtual hearing of airpassengers’ complaint.

In the light of this, themedical practitioner in Nigeria is faced with several challenges some of which this paper will examinewith a view to proffering solutions within the legal framework. The paper will also examine the positionof the Nigerian patient vis-a-vis their protection under the law
Eviction Notice Orders in the Fight against Criminality in Nigeria: Unconstitutiona
Crime and criminality is an evil wind that blows no one good and it is abhorred globally. It is a global phenomenonand each country of the world approach the fight against the menace in different dimensions. Nigeria is not anexception to the fight against crime and criminality. Crime is a hydra-headed monster mendaciously lurking todevour Nigeria. The rise in crime in Nigeria dates back to 1970 after the Nigeria/Biafra civil war, when the firstincident of robbery was experienced and it has since grown in geometric progression unabated. These rages fromrobbery, kidnapping, banditry, Fulani herders attack, rape, murder, militancy, Boko Haram activities etc.Commission of these crimes by criminals often results in the payment of ransom, rape and eventual death ofinnocent citizens of Nigeria. The government of Nigeria in the fight against the menace looks hopeless and helplessgiven room for all manner of illegal reactions from both State governments, group of persons and individuals alikewith a view to curbing the menace. The most recent is the eviction order issued to Fulani herders in the western partof Nigeria, particularly, Ondo State by Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN; and the attack on the herdersby Sunday Igboho leaving debilitating effect on its wake. These eviction orders by the Governor ostensibly evokedmixed feelings and emotions from across the country. This paper examined the propriety or otherwise of the evictionorder by the Ondo State Governor and proffers solution to curbing the incidences of these crimes in Nigeria, thathas driven her citizens underground and forced innocent people to sleep with one eyes open
