FAUT-IL UNE FORMATION POUR INTERPRETER AU NIGERIA ?

    No full text
Interpreting and the ability to pass messages effectively are very important. If kings and queens can be born, can interpreters be born as well? The aim of our article is to answer the question people often ask: Does one need training to interpret? The reflections provided by Eugène Nida and Bariki among others have greatly enriched the field. Inspite of different opinions, our article maintains that training highly demanded in advanced countries is never useless. From our participation in Deeper life Camp Ogboro, Oyo State in April 2023, our discovery will show that there are many Interpreters in Nigeria who are quite good in interpreting without any formal training. Finally, we are going to lay emphasis on the great advantages one stands to gain from necessary training.

PETROGRAPHIC, STRUCTURAL FEATURES AND GEOCHEMICAL INVESTIGATIONS FOR RARE METAL (TA-NB) POTENTIALS OF PRECAMBRIAN PEGMATITES OF OLUGBO AREA, SOUTH WESTERN NIGERIA

    No full text
This study is on the petrographic and geochemical evaluation of low lying pegmatic veins intruding into the older assemblages of migmatite-gneisses around Olugbo area, south-western Nigeria. This was carried out with a view to understanding their petrographic, structural and geochemical features. Thin section Petrographic studies we\u27re carried out. From the orientation of the veins and dykes measured in the field, it was observed that they do not have a uniform direction. The rocks in the study area can be said to date fromPre-Pan-Africa. However, this age is tentative since the exact age of the rocks cannot be determined without carrying out radiometric dating. A total of twelve samples comprising whole rocks pegmatites and extracts of feldspar, mica (biotite) and suspected ore (opaque) mineral were analyzed for major, trace and rare earth elements using combination of inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopy (ICPES) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICMPS) analytical methods which showed the pegmatite samples to be generally highly siliceous with SiO2 values ranging from 67.32-69.38%. In general, the Olugbo pegmatites fields are relatively poorer when compared with highly mineralized Tanco (Canada), Homestead and Wodinga Australia pegmatites and low-medium Ta-Nb pegmatites of Buck, Oasis and Noumas pegmatites of South Africa

In this work, end-quenched test apparatus that was locally produced was used to choose and prepare mild steel, cast iron, and stainless steel for hardenability testing. With an end-quenched machine, every sample was quenched with warmed water at 25 oC after being heated to 920 oC and soaked for full autenization. It was shown from the outcomes that the heat treatment had an effect on every material tested. The hardness (hardenability) of ferrous alloys diminishes with the increasing gradient of the Jominy curve. In every instance, the tip reaches the highest possible toughness. Stainless steel reacts extremely poorly to heat treatment using the Jominy End-Quenched process; however, mild steel and cast iron perform much better, as measured by the hardness at 0 mm depth in relation to the as-cast ferrous alloys. The performance of hardenability was consistent with the composition of each ferrous alloy. The information helps machinists identify ferrous alloys that require pre- and post-heating during welding and determine what sort of fluid to use for different ferrous alloy categories

The study examined effect of capital structure on the value of firm with evidence from the Nigerian capital market. This study was prompted by the need to undertake a quantitative examination of capital structure and the capital market in Nigeria’s service sector.  Two research questions and a corresponding two research hypotheses were formulated for the study. Ex-post facto research design was employed in the study. The independent variable: capital structure was decomposed into equity ratio and debt_to_equity ratio while the dependent variable was proxied using enterprise value. The sample was restricted to only 16 quoted service companies on the Nigerian exchange group for the period, 2009 to 2023. Data were analyzed using Ordinary least square (OLS) regression with the aid of STATA 14.2. The study found that Equity Ratio (ER) significantly affect the Enterprise value of selected service firms listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group. The study also found no significant effect of debt_to_equity ratio on the Enterprise Value of selected service firms listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group. Consequent on the findings, the study recommends amongst others that Service firms should prioritize optimizing their equity ratio to enhance enterprise value, as higher equity contributions significantly impact firm valuation

INTRODUCTION: Artificial intelligence (AI) has found wide application in diagnostic radiology but the concepts and applications of AI in radiography practice is yet to be fully understood among Nigerian radiographers. AIM: The main objective of the study was to access the knowledge of artificial intelligence in clinical radiography practice among radiographers in selected cities in Nigeria. METHODS: This cross-sectional prospective research survey was carried out using a questionnaire. A stratified convenience sample of 118 out of 168 radiographers aged 18-76 years in three Nigerian cities participated in the study between February 2021 and September 2023. This sampling method was used because of the poor attitude of radiographers towards research. The items in the questionnaire were reviewed by experts, tested for reliability and validity before being uploaded to online radiography social media platforms using Google forms. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis at < 0.05 level of significance. RESULTS: 73 (61.9%) of radiographers had basic knowledge of AI while 89 (75.4%) radiographers will support the deployment of AI in health facilities in Nigeria. Regression analysis showed that basic knowledge of AI is associated with support for AI, efforts at personnel development towards AI, professional status and fear of job losses. However, support for AI deployment was the only independent predictor of ‘having knowledge of AI’ in the population (R2 = 0.092). There is a positive relationship between having knowledge of AI and support for the deployment of AI. CONCLUSION: There was a general basic positive knowledge of AI among Nigerian Radiographers, but this was limited by fear of job losses. There was a positive relationship between knowledge of AI and support for its deployment, with a need to create more awareness and incorporate AI in the training curriculum of radiography students

    No full text
Cement kiln dust (CKD is often viewed as waste and hazardous material, which has been disposed of in landfills at cement plants. This research employs response surface methodology to optimize and create predictive models for utilizing CKD as a partial replacement for cement in self-compacting concrete (SCC). The initial properties of the materials used and the rheological characteristics, including the L-box, V-funnel, flow, and T50 tests, were valuated to appraise the workability of the self-compacting concrete. The concrete was formulated with CKD at percentages of 0 (control), 5, 10, 15, and 20 % by weight of cement, and a water-cement ratio of 0.35 was used. The findings revealed that the established predictive models for the strengths and durability of the SCC had R2 values of 98.11 %, 87.16 %, and 99.14 % for compressive, splitting tensile strength, and water absorption, respectively. Additionally, the difference between the adjusted and predicted R2 values was under 0.2, suggesting a strong correlation. The optimized strength results showed 32.041 N/mm2 and 3.455 N/mm2 for compressive and split tensile strengths, respectively, at a CKD content of 10.683 %, while water absorption was measured at 2.916 % with a 20 % CKD substitution level and a curing period of 28 days. It is recommended to use 10 % CKD as a partial cement replacement in self-compacting concrete
