THE MEDIATING INFLUENCE OF DEMOGRAPHIC FACTORS ON THE PURCHASE INTENTION OF ORGANIC FOOD AMONG ACADEMIC STAFF OF NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES

    No full text
This research concerns the mediating influence of demographic factors on the purchase intention of organic food among academic staff of Nigerian universities. Employing a quantitative research methodology, this research collected data through structured questionnaire distributed to a sample of 370 academic staff members across various universities in south-east, Nigeria, achieving a response rate of 82.16% with 304 valid responses. The research hypotheses were tested using statistical methods to assess direct and indirect effects, with a significance threshold set at the 5% level. Our analysis revealed several key findings. Firstly, there was a strong direct effect of attitudes towards organic food benefits on purchase intentions, with a coefficient of 0.6764 and a 95% confidence interval ranging from 0.6020 to 0.7509, indicating a robust positive influence. Furthermore, demographic factors were found to mediate this relationship significantly, as evidenced by an indirect effect of 0.0230 with a bootstrap confidence interval not including zero (0.0067 to 0.0461). Similarly, motivations for purchasing organic food displayed a direct negative impact on purchase intentions (coefficient -0.3857, 95% confidence interval from -0.4870 to -0.2843) and were also significantly mediated by demographic factors, showing an indirect effect of -0.0403. The study also established the significant influence of subjective norms and awareness and information sources on purchase intentions, with respective coefficients of 0.2726 and -0.3492. In both cases, demographic factors served as a significant mediator, enhancing our understanding of how individual characteristics intersect with cultural and social influences to affect behavioural outcomes in organic food markets. Barriers and challenges related to sourcing organic food emerged as another critical factor positively influencing purchase intentions, demonstrated by a direct effect coefficient of 0.3485 and confirmed mediation by demographic factors (indirect effect 0.0485). This finding suggests that overcoming such barriers may significantly boost organic food consumption among this demographic. These findings underscore the necessity for targeted educational campaigns and institutional support to navigate the identified barriers effectively and foster a more sustainable consumption pattern among academic

    No full text
Health literacy is a potent factor that determines several health-related variables including reproductive health. The study assessed health literacy and its relationship with reproductive health behaviour among female staff at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. The cross-sectional study was performed in 2024 on 185 female staff of the University of Ibadan aged between 19 to 49 years who had been selected through a stratified and random sampling technique from among those with the criteria for entering the study. Two adapted instruments labelled Health Literacy (α=0.79) and Reproductive Health Behaviour Questionnaires (α=0.81) were used for data collection and analysed using frequency counts, percentages and Pearson Product Moment Correlation at a significant level of less than 0.05. The study found that the average mean health literacy of female employees at the University was high (x ̅=3.89., there is a significant relationship between health literacy and reproductive health behaviour among female staff at the University(r=.504 p<0.05). According to the correlation analysis, the number of children (r = .439, p< .05), income status (r = .630, p< .05), age (r = .633, p< .05), educational attainment (r = .648, p< .05), job description (r = .657, p< .05), were found to be predictors of health literacy, respectively. Female staff at the university have high health literacy and exhibit good reproductive health practices. Therefore, enlightenment programmes regarding good reproductive health practices should be made readily available at University Health Services, health information on reproductive health must be provided on various platforms accessible to all female staff and factors such as age, educational level, income, number of children and job description should be considered when planning initiatives to increase health literacy in women

    No full text
This study investigated the determinants of internal audit effectiveness (IAE) in tertiary institutions within Kwara State, Nigeria, focusing on the influence of top management support (TMS), internal auditor remuneration (IAR), auditor competence (IAC), IT integration, and external pressures. Given the critical role of internal audits in ensuring compliance, safeguarding assets, and promoting accountability, this study addresses significant challenges in Nigerian educational institutions, such as audit independence, remuneration disparities, and adapting to technological advancements. Through, correlation and regression analyses, the study revealed that IAR, IAC, and TMS are strong predictors of IAE. Specifically, a robust positive relationship exists between IAR and IAE, indicating that competitive salaries enhance auditor motivation and performance. Similarly, IAC is positively correlated with IAE, underscoring the need for continuous professional development to improve audit quality. TMS also positively influences IAE, emphasizing the importance of active support from top management in resource allocation and autonomy for the internal audit function. Although IT integration shows a positive correlation with IAE, its impact is not statistically significant, suggesting that effective utilization and integration of IT tools are crucial for realizing their full potential. The study recommends implementing competitive remuneration, ongoing training for auditors, and strong top management support, while focusing on optimizing IT systems. These findings provide valuable insights for improving internal audit practices and governance in Nigerian tertiary institutions and serve as a foundation for future research and policy development. &nbsp

INFLUENCE OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC VARIABLES ON ORGANIC FOOD PURCHASE INTENTION AMONG HEALTHCARE WORKERS IN SOUTH-EAST NIGERIA

    No full text
This study investigates the influence of socio-economic variables on organic food purchase intention among healthcare workers in South-East Nigeria. Organic food consumption has gained global attention due to increasing awareness of its health, environmental, and ethical benefits. However, in developing countries like Nigeria, socio-economic factors may pose significant barriers to its adoption, even among informed populations such as healthcare professionals. Using a quantitative research design, data were collected through an online questionnaire targeting healthcare workers across the region. Key socio-demographic variables analysed include income level, educational attainment, occupational status, and marital status. Findings revealed that all these variables significantly influenced the intention to purchase organic food. Higher income, advanced education, and professional status were positively associated with stronger purchase intentions, while marital status showed moderate influence. The combined model of socio-economic variables significantly predicted organic food purchase intention. The study recommends policy incentives, awareness campaigns, and institutional support to promote organic food consumption among health professionals and the broader public. It also highlights the importance of leveraging healthcare workers as health-conscious role models in sustainable consumption advocacy
