Evaluating the Dynamics of Contractors’ Tender for Construction Projects: Insights from PCA, Clustering, and Robust Regression
The tendering process is a critical determinant of project success in the construction industry, particularly in Nigeria, where indigenous contractors face numerous challenges in securing government and foreign contracts. This study examines the dynamics influencing contractors’ tender decisions by employing Principal Component Analysis (PCA), hierarchical clustering, and robust regression modeling. Data were obtained through structured interviews with experienced professionals, who rated 50 decision-making factors affecting tender submissions. PCA reduced data dimensionality, revealing that a few core components, such as organizational capacity, market conditions, and project risks explain the majority of variance in contractor decisions. Hierarchical clustering identified contractor segmentation based on tender priorities, while robust regression showed a statistically significant relationship between mid-tier factor scores (medium_scores) and overall tender viability. Although limited in scale, the findings offer preliminary insights into predictive, simplified metrics for tender evaluation. This research contributes theoretically by integrating advanced analytical methods into tendering studies and practically by offering actionable insights to contractors, policymakers, and stakeholders aiming to enhance the competitiveness and transparency of the procurement process in Nigeria’s construction sector. The study underscores the need for standardized evaluation criteria, capacity-building, and data-driven decision-support systems in tender management.

BEHAVIOURAL ANALYTICS IN CONSUMER CREDIT USAGE: A STUDY OF DEBT ACCUMULATION PATTERNS AMONG ACADEMIC STAFF IN SELECTED UNIVERSITIES IN SOUTH EAST NIGERIA
This study explores the relationship between financial literacy, spending behavior, and consumer credit usage among academic staff at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam, Nigeria. Using a survey-based methodology, data was collected from 200 respondents, and the relationships among key variables were analyzed using regression models. The findings reveal that higher financial literacy is negatively associated with consumer credit usage, suggesting that individuals with better financial knowledge tend to use credit less frequently. Additionally, spending behavior was found to have a significant positive relationship with credit usage, indicating that individuals who engage in excessive or impulsive spending are more likely to rely on credit. Financial literacy also moderated the relationship between spending behavior and credit usage, suggesting that higher financial knowledge can reduce the negative impact of poor spending habits. Control variables, including income level and marital status, were found to influence credit usage, with higher income earners being more likely to use credit. The study highlights the need for financial literacy programs and spending behavior interventions to improve credit management among Nigerian university staff. The findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, financial institutions, and educators to promote responsible credit usage and financial well-bein
EFFECT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES ON ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE OF MANUFACTURING FIRMS IN NIGERIA AND GHANA
This study assessed the effect of environmental practices on economic performance of manufacturing firms in Nigeria and Ghana. The study employed Ex-Post Facto research design. The population of the study comprised all manufacturing firms in both Nigeria and Ghana listed on the Exchange Group and Stock Exchange respectively, and a sample of eleven (11) manufacturing firms in both Nigeria and Ghana was taken. Data were sourced from the various annual reports of the sampled manufacturing firms deposited in the libraries and website of the NGX (www.ngxgroup.com) and GSE (www.gse.com) spanning from 2012-2023.
