Modelling of sand drying process in a sheet/hallow glass plant
A research article with figures and tablesThe sand drying process in a sheet/hallow glass plant has been modelled under steady state and unsteady state conditions. A model equation was developed for a differential length of the cylindrical drum dryer based on reasonable theoretical assumptions and solved under steady state and unsteady state conditions subject to the applicable boundary conditions. The model predicted the actual length of the drum dryer to an accuracy of 98.7% (1.3% deviation) and the diameter of the drum dryer to an accuracy of 98.3% (1.7% deviation). This model can be used for design, simulation and control of drum dryers for sand drying in a sheet/hallow glass plan
Water flooding process of oil recovery in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria
This work contains figures and tables.Water flooding is a process of hydrocarbon recovery where water is injected through injection wells into the reservoir to recover oil from the production well. It is usually injected in a reservoir rock that has fluid communication with the producing reservoir. Waterflooding is secondary recovery mechanism whose purpose is to maintain and support reservoir pressure thus displacing hydrocarbon towards the producing wellbore. In this study a reservoir in the Niger Delta, Reservoir OZ-70 is used for evaluation and economic analysis of the water flooding project using five spot pattern. Reservoir OZ-70 had oil at the start of the flood to be 2.38MMSTB. The reservoir was left depleted with the unrecovered oil in it. But based on the analysis carried out on secondary oil recovery by water flooding, 0.98 MMSTB was recovered from 2.38 MMSTB about 41.1% at a breakthrough period of 428 days. When water viscosity was increased from 0.60 to 0.65, 0.99MMSTB about 41.7% was recovered. Economic evaluation of the reservoir oz-70 water flooding project was also performed. Net present value (NPV) was calculated to be $8.74million while internal rate of return (IRR) at a discount rate of 10% was 126.3%. Therefore, since the NPV is greater than zero and IRR greater than hurdle rate (10%) the project is economically viable

to model the determinants of adoption and intensity of adoption of MVs of rice, and the propensity score
matching was used to analyze the impact of adoption on poverty. The results showed that age, education,
risk aversion, land size, yield, perception of MVs as high yielding, resistant to diseases and availability of
MVs positively influenced the decision to adopt. However, variables such as household size, experience
of a farmer, off-farm job participation, amount of credit received, cost of seeds, insecticides and fertilizers
negatively influenced the adoption of MVs. Intensity of adoption of MVs was negatively influenced by
experience of a farmer, cost of fertilizer and marketability of MVs, and positively affected by household
size, risk aversion, land size, cost of insecticides, perception of MVs as high yielding and availability of
MV seeds. Poverty incidence, gap and severity were high among non-adopters to adopters of MVs. After
matching adopters and non-adopters of MV groups using four different algorithms of nearest neighbour
matching, stratification matching, radius matching and kernel matching, the impact of MV adoption
resulted in higher per capita monthly household expenditure by about US 63.17
Modeling the mechanical properties of clay powder filled recycled low density polyethylene composites
This article contain tables and figuresThis study modeled some mechanical properties of clay powder filled recycled low-density polyethylene, rLDPE (rLDPE composite). The rLDPE is commonly referred to as used sachet water bags. The clay powder (filler) was obtained by sun-drying, grinding, and sieving. Two particle sizes of clay powder were used: −90 µm and −425 µm to represent the passing sizes at different clay powder contents of 5, 10, 15 and 20 wt% which were thoroughly mixed with the recycled low-density polyethylene in an injection molding machine at 173˚C. The results showed that the tensile strength, tensile modulus, hardness, flexural strength, fatigue strength and hardness increased with increase in clay powder contents. However, there were decreases in strain-at-breakage and shear strength as clay powder content increased. Model equations showed that smaller particle size enhanced the mechanical properties and equations generated can be used to predict the properties of composites at predetermined clay contents. Standard deviations obtained for the various mechanical properties show that the model, in most cases had the lowest degree of scatter (dispersion) than those of −90 µm and −425 µm. Hence, these models are suitable to predict outcomes of the properties of the clay filled recycled low-density polyethylene composite
Determination of the binding characteristics of dicoumarol to bovine serum abumin by UV/visible spectroscopic method
This research was conducted in collaboration with a of staff in the Department of Chemistry8-Anilinonaphthalene-1-Sulfonic acid (ANS) was used as a probe to study the binding characteristics of Dicoumarol to Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA). The absorbance of ANS-BSA complex was decreased by the binding of Dicoumarol. This suggests that there is competition between Dicoumarol and ANS for the binding sites in the BSA. It means that ANS and Dicoumarol shared some of the binding sites on BSA. From the scatchard plot for the binding of Dicoumarol to BSA it is seen that Dicoumarol has three high affinity binding sites with association constants Kl=14.5245 x 106,10.6281x106,11.6811x106 respectively, and three secondary binding sites with association constants Kl =14.0084 x 10615.8816 x 106 and 19.2058x106 respectively and numerous low affinity binding sites
Performance evaluation of Mucuna solannie as a drilling fluid additive in water-base mud at cold temperature
This article contains figures and tablesWeighted and unweighted aqueous mud formulations from a biomaterial, at cold temperature of 5°C, were tested for their rheological characteristics. Based on API guidelines and recommended equipment for drilling fluid tests, the rheological properties of the formulations were determined. The muds exhibited pseudoplastic behaviour. The fluid loss volumes of the weighted and unweighted muds are 14 and 21 ml, respectively, while the filter cake thicknesses are 2.5 and 3 mm, respectively. The yield stresses of the weighted and unweighted muds are 209 and 159 lb/100 ft2 , respectively. Plastic viscosity of 42 cP for the weighted mud against 23 cP for the unweighted mud showed that the weighted mud has a better cutting lifting capacity if PV is used as an indicator. Mucuna solannie additive can also perform in cold temperature, and has the potential to be used in cold temperature drilling
