The Impact of Self-Service User Interaction Experience (SSUIE) On Subjective Wellbeing
No full textThe study investigated the role of wellness technology in wellness tourism through a mixed-methods approach. Qualitative interviews with 11 spa directors revealed five key themes: enhanced guest experience through technological integration, complementary relationship between technology and traditional services, operational efficiency and revenue generation, personalization capabilities, and evolving perceptions of wellness from luxury to necessity. The quantitative phase expanded upon the qualitative findings by examining how Self-Service User Interaction Experiences (SSUIE) influence wellness value, customer satisfaction, subjective wellbeing, and behavioral intentions among 230 wellness tourism consumers. The sample comprised predominantly female participants (68.3%), with Millennials (44.78%) and Generation X (28.26%) representing the largest age cohorts. Massage chairs emerged as the most utilized self-service technology, followed by red light therapy and infrared saunas. Results showed interaction comfort (β = 0.296, p \u3c 0.001) and pleasant experience (β = 0.263, p \u3c 0.001) significantly influenced hedonic value, while sense of closeness (β = 0.295, p \u3c 0.001) and perceived competence (β = 0.222, p \u3c 0.05) impacted utilitarian value. Hedonic value demonstrated stronger effects on customer satisfaction (β = 0.623, p \u3c 0.001) compared to utilitarian value (β = 0.162, p \u3c 0.01). Customer satisfaction significantly influenced both subjective wellbeing and behavioral intentions (β = 0.473, p \u3c 0.001), with subjective wellbeing showing notable correlation to behavioral intention (β = 0.262, p \u3c 0.001). Generational analysis revealed consistently stronger relationships between SSUIE dimensions and wellness values among Gen Z compared to Baby Boomers. The findings provide valuable insights for wellness tourism providers implementing self-service technologies

Unfortunately the language surrounding responsible gambling has proven ineffective, due to varying definitions and debate over stigma related to responsibility. This paper discusses the importance of language in communicating about consumer protection and harm minimization to the public. Three key areas of discussion are highlighted: 1) decoupling responsible gambling and problem gambling to reduce the barrier of stigma; 2) redefining responsible gambling, and 3) the need for conversations amongst peers and parents, all with the view to proactively prevent gambling-related harms
Multihalle Pavilion: The Renovation of an Innovative, Experimental Structure From the 1970s
No full textThis article discusses the significance and challenges of renovating a unique 1970s experimental timber building and iconic structure: the Multihalle Pavilion in Mannheim (Germany), which has the world’s first and largest self-supporting wooden grid shell roof structure. Originally conceived as a temporary structure for the 1975 Federal Garden Exposition, Multihalle uses a lattice grid shell structure with gentle curves, remarkably slim profiles, and a translucent roof. The term ‘grid shell’ refers to a doubly curved surface formed from the lattice of timber with uniform spacing in two directions. Furthermore, this was one of the first buildings in Germany whose plan and drawings for components were designed using a computer system, well before the arrival of ubiquitous CAD programs. The purpose of the article is to widely disseminate knowledge about an innovative building and to provide an update on the project and its ongoing renovation efforts, as recently observed by the author during a site visit. The article first discusses the history and significance of the building, its unusual structural solutions, and explains the project’s background. It then reports on the current state of the rescue initiative, the various renovation activities, and concludes with the outcome of a 2019 design competition, which called for new usage concepts to regenerate Multihalle; it produced sustainable and viable options for its redevelopment by conversion into a leisure, sports and cultural complex. A main conclusion is that the innovation and learning derived from the renovation of such an unusual structure are of immense relevance and importance for future projects. The renovation of this experimental building was not without risks and technical challenges, and the fund-raising took longer than initially expected; however, based on its influential contribution to 20th century architecture, it is also an important commitment to the preservation of our cultural heritage from the 1970s
Examining the Influence of Team-based Learning on Medical Students’ Comprehension and Attitudes Regarding Psychedelic Therapies
No full textIntroduction: This study evaluates the impact of a two-hour team-based learning (TBL) curriculum on medical students\u27 knowledge, comprehension, ethical understanding, and attitudes towards psychedelic therapies. Methods: Sixty-three pre-surveys and fifty post-surveys assessed students\u27 perceived knowledge and attitudes using Likert scales. Forty-eight matched pre/post-knowledge tests with multiple-choice questions quantified changes in comprehension. The TBL approach featured independent learning, team readiness assessments, and application exercises. Results: Post-curriculum, students demonstrated significantly improved test scores (mean 41.4% increase, p \u3c 0.0001) and more positive attitudes across 16 of 18 items (p ≤ 0.0495). Overall attitude scores increased 23% (p \u3c 0.0001). Qualitative feedback reflected enhanced comfort discussing psychedelics clinically. While some students expressed support for psychedelic-assisted therapy, others cited reservations. Discussion: This innovative curriculum bridged an important education gap given the increasing relevance of psychedelic medicine. Findings suggest TBL enhances medical student preparedness in this emerging field. Continued curricular development is warranted to ensure proper psychedelic education aligns with patient needs and legislative policies. As psychedelic research progresses, maintaining instructional excellence is crucial for future healthcare professionals

The Impact of Educating Interprofessional Healthcare Workers on the Role of Occupational Therapy in the Cardiac Acute Care Setting
No full textThe acute care setting has been a vastly growing practice area for the occupational therapy profession. Occupational therapists assist clients in the acute care setting with activities of daily living retraining and functional transfer training to increase independence. Each client demonstrates a different discharge course from the acute care setting and occupational therapists play a key role in assisting the clients the most appropriate rehabilitative setting. All professionals in the acute care setting work cohesively to provide clients with the best outcome.
The doctoral project explored the importance of interprofessional healthcare worker education about occupational therapy practices in the acute care setting. Healthcare workers were provided with an informational session reviewing the role of occupational therapy in the rehabilitation process for acute care patients with a cardiac related diagnosis. The use of professional feedback and surveys were utilized to gather healthcare workers’ insights on the benefits of the informational session and education. The implementation of this project was created to explore the educational knowledge of interprofessional healthcare workers on the role of occupational therapy in the acute care setting. Additionally, the implementation of the project was created to gain insight about the efficacy of educational advocacy for occupational therapy

Beyond the Library: The Role of Academic Libraries’ Chat Reference in Answering Campus Questions
No full textEven before the COVID-19 pandemic drove most users online, chat was establishing itself as a core service for asking library-related questions of many types, from basic directional and reference to research queries of a more sophisticated nature. This investigation seeks to provide insight into how academic libraries are seen not only as a source of library assistance, but also as a means of filling an information gap on a wider subject: the university campus at large. The study’s methods involved analyzing chat transcripts from five large four-year public universities during a two-year period (2019- 2021), noting the frequency of campus-related chat questions and coding the specific topics of those inquiries. The findings show that library reference services, particularly live virtual chat, are consistently valuable to the campus community and may be especially important to supporting less privileged student populations
Music’s Influence on Focus and Concentration: A Puzzle-Solving Task Study
No full textThis research investigates the effect of preferred music on enhancing focus and concentration during puzzle-solving tasks. Conducted with a diverse group of 50 participants at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the study examined the influence of individual musical preferences on cognitive performance. Participants were tasked with solving puzzles under two conditions: listening to their favorite music and in silence. The findings reveal that 68% of the participants demonstrated improved performance in puzzle-solving when listening to music they preferred. This suggests a significant positive correlation between preferred music and enhanced cognitive task performance. The study contributes to the understanding of how personal music preferences can be leveraged to improve concentration and focus in specific cognitive tasks. It acknowledges limitations in scope and suggests further research to explore the effects across different types of cognitive tasks and a broader range of musical genres.
