    Get PDF
This manuscript reports the monitored performance results of roof top solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants in different parts of Tamilnadu, India. In this work, PV plants of capacities 84 kWp and 18 kWp located at Tirunelveli and Ranipet respectively in Tamilnadu are considered. During an eight month period, of September 2014 to April 2015, these plants had generated 43.99 MWh and 15.55 MWh units of electricity respectively. The average electricity production per day for the considered period of these plants is 181.74 kWh and 62.81 kWh respectively. The performance ratio (PR) of these plants PV1 and PV2 is found to be 0.52 and 0.86 respectively. The characteristics of poly crystalline PV modules and the performance of employed photovoltaic inverters are also analyzed. It is observed that external conditions like climate and bad weather significantly reduces the PV system output, whereas it reduces marginally due to inverter failure as observed from the values of energy yield and performance ratio of these plants. Online monitoring of PV plant with DC/AC line and phase voltages and current waveforms observed for the given day are also presented

in India to meet its future energy demand. This paper emphasis on the performance assessment of grid connected mega-watt solar power plant which is of 23MW and 5MW are located in different geographical location in India. Performance assessment is the finest way to determine the potential of energy generation in solar power plant and it also helps in evaluating the design, operation and maintenance of existing and future solar power plant. The parameters namely calculation of annual energy generated, reference yield, final yield, system losses, cell temperature losses, performance ratio and capacity utilization factor are considered in examining solar power plant performance. In this study experimental measurement of two solar power plant one is located in Gujarat (23MW) and another in Andhra Pradesh (5MW) are compared with the results of estimated model from METEONORM 7.1 and PVSYST V6.67 software tools. Experimental measurement at solar power plant location covers the following measurement for analysis like actual weather condition, daily/hourly irradiance, actual energy yield and compares with capacity utilization factor, performance ratio and temperature corrected performance ratio parameters. The results demonstrated in this paper show the gap between the actual performance of solar power plant and the estimated model from software tool. Performance of solar power plant is satisfactory in comparison with other literature reviews. The actual annual energy generated for 23MW solar power plant was 37991MWh, 18.83% capacity utilization factor, 73.87% performance ratio and 75.33% temperature corrected performance ratio. Similarly, the actual annual energy generated for 5MW solar power plant was 9047.7MWh, 18.41% capacity utilization factor, 80.31% performance ratio and 79.90% temperature corrected performance ratio

This given the outcome of environmental situations in recent years, it has become necessary to use other resolutions for the energy production we need, and among these wind power sources. Since the advent of windmills to the first wind turbines, the technology of aero-motors (or wind sensors) has evolved rapidly. This article presents a study of an axial flow generator, and this mechanism is based on the energy of the wind turbine, this structure solves the problem of the distribution of the magnetic field lines in the armature coils and the inductor of the generator, observing the influence on the voltage from the linear velocity, the density of the injected current and the position along its axis; and that by the method of Finite Elements and is used the computer aided design (CAD), and more particularly the software comsol multiphysics to obtain the results that the good operation of the generator

Rural areas suffer from high costs of grid extensions obliging institutions to provide for other remedies for consumers, like using generators (GE) diesel often considered as economic and reliable solutions, but at the detriment of some order environment pollution and users convenience. Furthermore, the continuous decline in GEs prices based on a renewable energy (RE) and the increasing reliability of these systems have lead to a greater use of renewable energy sources for power generation in remote areas. A property which limits the use of renewable energy is related to the variability of resources. Fluctuations in load according to annual or daily periods are not necessarily correlated to the resources. In remote areas, the preferred option is the coupling between multiple sources, such as wind turbines and solar panels, this coupling is called hybrid power system. Algeria’s geographic location presents several advantages for the development and use of renewable energy, namely, solar energy and wind energy. In addition, Algeria has huge deposits of natural gas, 98% electricity comes from gas. Therefore, currently, the production of electricity from renewable energies primarily depends on their competitiveness with economic gas. Studied technological feasibility and economic viability of the hybrid system (PV/fuel) electrification project in a school located in Ferraguig succeed to reduce high costs, energy dependence, fuel supply problem, complicated/expensive maintenance, low lifetime, impossibility of 24 hours electricity production and waste oil management issues, by using renewable energy. HOMER model is used here to size a proposed system and determine an optimum configuration

Improved virtual flux direct power control of three phase PWM rectifier using SOGI-FLL estimator under disturbed voltage conditions

    Get PDF
In this paper, improved sonsorless direct power control (DPC) of three-phase rectifiers is presented. The new system are based on virtual flux (VF) and notch filter using Second Order Generalized Integrator frequency located loop SOGI-FLL estimator. In order to improve the VF-DPC performance of PWM rectifier, an improved observation method of virtual flux-linkage is proposed. To avoid the relevant problems of pure integrator, and to achieve the accurate observation of the grid voltage’s phase, (SOGI-FLL) are used to displace the pure integrator. Theoretical principles of this method are presented and discussed. These strategies are also investigated under disturbed grid voltage. A theoretical analysis of active and reactive power under a non-ideal source is clearly demonstrated. In order to calculate the compensated powers, the extraction of positive, negative, and harmonic sequences of voltage and current is needed and a multiple dual SOGI-FLL method is used for rapid and accurate extraction. It is shown that the VFDPC with integrating notch filter exhibits several advantages, particularly providing small ripple of DC-link voltage and sinusoidal line current when the supply voltage is not ideal

Modeling and predictive control of InGap/GaAs/Ge triple-junction solar cells to increase the energy conversion efficiency

    Get PDF
Physical studies of the last decade indicate that multi-junction solar cell has higher energy conversion efficiency than single-junction cells. However, choosing the type of material, modeling and finding the parameters of this type of cell has always been one of the leading challenges in this topic. Most of the proposed models are assumed to have predetermined electrical parameters of the cell or regardless of the effect of the tunnel junction, which reduces of the system. This paper discusses the modeling of solar cell triplejunction InGap/GaAs /Ge, taking into account the effect of a tunnel junction and finds the parameters of each subcellular deal. Also, predictive control will be used to control the active and reactive power of the single-phase inverter. The use of this method eliminates the need for the modulation module and the phase-lock loop (PLL). And simplifies the control algorithm for its digital implementation. The proposed cost function of this paper will be such that in addition to controlling the power of the inverter, the closed loop stability will be guaranteed based on the Lyapunov theory. Finally, the performance of the system using the software MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation will be evaluated

Reactive power control to enhance the VSC-HVDC system performance under faulty and normal conditions

    Get PDF
This paper studied the reactive power control of the voltage source converters based high-voltage direct current system (VSC-HVDC). PI (proportional & integration) controller was used in this work to enhance the dynamic response of the system. Gravitational search algorithm (GSA) and sine cosine algorithm (SCA) are used to get optimal parameters of the PI controller. GSA algorithm is based on the gravity law for Newton while SCA depends on mathematical model based on cosine and sine functions. These algorithms have an efficient global Search capability. The VSC-HVDC is exposed to different disturbances for checking the controller robustness. First disturbance was applying three phase faults on the system. While the second one was applying a step change in AC voltage. Finally, Applying step change in regulators reference values. Simulation results proved the controller superiority also verified the enhancement of the system dynamic response
