No full textThe MLAS Mid-Year Meeting was held in conjunction with the 13th Eurasian Academic Libraries Conference (EALC) which is a collaboration between the Nazarbayev University Library and the IFLA Management of Library Associations Section (MLAS) from 29 to 31 May 2024 in Astana, Kazakhstan. The title of the conference was "Connect, Collaborate, Create: Advancing Library Associations and Partnerships to Future-proof our Profession." The MLAS Session was held from 15:00 to 17:00 (Astana Time) on 29th, 30th and 31st May 2024. The Meeting was held in hybrid format(In-person and Online) and open to MLAS members as observers. Among the matters discussed at the meeting include the following: Updates from IFLA Governing Board; the MLAS Open Session was held on 17th May in collaboration with the Lebanese Library Association (LLA), the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region, and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN ESCWA); future MLAS collaboration; Co-option of MLAS SC Members; Programme of Mentoring; Building Strong Library Associations; updates on Advocacy Impact Evaluation (AIE) Project; IFLA Draft Strategy Survey; updates on NPSIG and WILSIG

No full textThis intervention deals with the intellectual contents of Mesopotamia libraries, which are among the most famous libraries established during human history, and exposes these contents and the sciences in which valuable books, manuscripts, and millions of volumes were collected to operations of erasure in horrific ways throughout the ages, and the grind of this cultural battle is still taking place today against Iraq's cultural infrastructure par excellence. There is no doubt that with the advent of the U.S. occupation in 2003, and the accompanying sabotage, looting, and burning of many of the collections and holdings of Iraqi libraries, what is wanted is to obliterate the landmarks of human civilization carried by Iraq in its libraries and which are often the cost of preserving them are very harsh, but despite this, these institutions rise again

No full textThe fourth meeting of the Regional Council 2023-2025 was held in-person in the Hague on 7-8 December 2023. Items discussed during this meeting included welcome by the Regional Council Chair, followed by a deep-dive from the Regional Division Chairs reflecting on a look forward to the SDGs in 2024. Discussions were additionally focused on the Regional Council Action Plan, which also included the heritage damage in Gaza and how to engage emerging leaders. Other things discussed were: An Overall Model for Developing the Strength of Regional Library Fields; IFLA Communications in the coming year; IFLA membership in the coming year and WLIC; IFLA Elections 2025 (an early look ahead); Language policy
