Never good enough : body image dissatisfaction amongst Native-Dominican and Dominican American female adolescents.
i, 81 leaves : illustrations, forms.Includes bibliographical references. The current study investigated “ideal body image” among Native-Dominican and Dominican-American female adolescents and the factors that relate to body image dissatisfaction. Adolescents (N=109) completed questionnaires assessing body image dissatisfaction, self-esteem, body-esteem, mother & father dieting influence, family teasing and criticism, pressure from the media, internalization of sociocultural attitudes, ideal body stereotypes, acculturation, and globalization. For the overall sample, more body image dissatisfaction was associated with mother dieting, family teasing and criticism, while less body image dissatisfaction was associated with more ideal body stereotypes. More internalized sociocultural attitude and being pressured by the media were associated with more body dissatisfaction. Higher body esteem was associated with less body dissatisfaction, less family teasing and criticism, and less pressure from the media. Acculturation was not associated with body image dissatisfaction. Analyses also demonstrate that Native Dominican and Dominican- American adolescents have different socialization experiences: therefore body image dissatisfaction is related to different variables for each subsample
Grace of God grows great enough : doctrinal grace and Christianity's dual ontology problem in medieval literature.
i, 135 leaves.Includes bibliographical references: leaves 128-135.Today, predestination and free will are typically understood as oppositional if not wholly contradictory aspects of Catholic doctrine. But this was not always true. Through its interpretation of several Middle English texts, The Grace of God Grows Great Enough reveals that many thinkers in the late Middle Ages were able to accommodate a belief in both predestination and free will through the doctrine of grace. This study brings to light the complex intermediary position grace held across the Middle English period, while exploring grace's relevance to Medieval Catholic virtue, judgment, and apocalypse.Introducing the texts -- Free will in Christian retribution -- The theology of predestination -- The theology of grace -- Spiritual grace in literature -- Physical accrual of grace -- Living in God's grace -- Grace in the final judgment

Today's state, yesterday's crimes : comparing the rhetorics of restoration and retribution after mass violence
i, 112 leaves.Includes bibliographical references.Explores two transitional justice mechanisms, the International Criminal Court for the former Yugoslavia and the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Analyzes the ways in which the ideal-type philosophical conceptions of retributive and restorative justice are realized in practice during times of transition by examining the rhetoric that emerges from these two mechanisms. I find that comparing the rhetorics of restoration and retribution reveals a set of normative and practical tradeoffs that must be considered when choosing future transitional justice mechanisms. What is transitional justice? -- The rhetoric of retribution : the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia -- The rhetoric of restoration : the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission
