Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration
Join the Heersink School of Medicine in welcoming keynote speaker Lisa McNair,
sister of one of the four little girls who died in the 16th Street Baptist Church
bombing in 1963. This lunchtime event will also feature special performances by the
Miles College Golden Voices Choir and poet Ashley Jones.

The survey will be open from Feb. 3-17. Your investment of 20 minutes can lead to

A new study demonstrates how natural
language processing techniques, combined
with dedicated staff, can sustainably flag
incidental findings in radiology images and
connect patients with follow-up care. The
work has many potential applications, the
researchers say.

Volunteer for a SUCCESS Initiative working group and RSVP for
upcoming town hall
Following an analysis of results from a campuswide survey and stakeholder interviews,
seven working groups have been created to address strategic priorities identified in the
responses. Faculty and staff can apply to join a group. Learn more here. Also, RSVP for
a town hall on the SUCCESS Initiative at 9 a.m. Feb. 24 at the Alumni House.
Blood donations needed
Donate at the UAB Medical Center Blood Drive at the North Pavilion atrium next
Tuesday through Friday (Jan. 28-31), from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Make an appointment online.
Donors will receive a $15 e-gift card and a Red Cross T-shirt while supplies last.
Specialty clinics at UAB Medical West now accepting patients
Residents of West Jefferson County can now receive care from UAB Medicine closer to
home at specialty clinics for cardiology, endocrinology, neurosurgery, pain treatment,
physical medicine and rehabilitation, pulmonary and rheumatology. Learn more about
the clinics and book an appointment online.
Are you interested in joining a support group for perinatal
mental health and infertility?
The UAB Employee Assistance & Counseling Center is collecting feedback from
employees who may be interested in support around challenges associated with
pregnancy and postpartum mental health and infertility. Take the survey here.
Winter deals at the Campus Rec Center
During the week of Feb 3-8, UAB employees who have never had a URec membership
can sign up for a one-week free trial and get free Group Fitness+ classes. Other
promotions available now include:
through Jan. 31, buy a one-semester pass of Group Fitness+ and get a second for
only $3 (a savings of more than $100);
through Feb. 2, purchase a six-month membership and get a half-locker for free
for three months, unlimited access to GroupFitness+ for one month, and a free
body composition test; and

UAB investigators: Do you need healthy donor blood samples?
The UAB Healthy Donor Cohort is an initiative of the UAB HSOM Immunology Institute
and UAB CCTS that allows UAB investigators to request fresh blood samples from
healthy adult volunteers for research purposes. If needed, the Immunology Institute staff
can provide guidance on IRB protocol submissions/amendments to investigators
