Background 
• Health literacy can dictate the outcome of 
one's overall care. 
• Many patients have the inability to fully
interpret their health conditions. 
Barriers of health literacy include: • 
o Language barriers 
o Cognitive limitations 
o Limited education 
o Stigmatization 
o Healthcare system complexity 
Inadequate health literacy could lead to
ethical concerns due to these barriers. 
• 
Readability, understandabil ity and• 
actionability is at the utmost importance 
Research Question 
How does health literacy impact patient 
outcomes?

Implementation & Intervention 
• Evidence-based practice solution proposal : a medical
• 
app. 
Available to all people, but require a medical diagnosis 
from a healthcare professional to be fully unlocked. 
• The app then takes that data and supplies a multitude of 
readings, videos, etc. that have all been reviewed. 
• Includes features that allow for future actions to be
taken. 
• An area for the patient's insurance information to be
stored , as well as their history/medical journey, and their 
location. 
• Allows for the app the take into account the full picture 
and then suggest accurate future steps 
Expected Outcomes 
• Provide education that can be understood by
the general public. 
• Empower personalized education plans that 
promote self-care 
• Allow a sense of autonomy for patients 
Continuous learning can occur with constant 
collaboration 
• 
• Facilitate access to resources that can allow 
patients to navigate their own conditions, and 
therefore advocate for themselves in clinical 
settings 
• Patients will receive verification through 
diagnoses 
• Reliable information will be portrayed back 
Conclusion 
• Health literacy is an ever pressing problem in
the medical world. 
• By improving health literacy it will benefit 
health outcomes.
