Dating violence: Women who broke it off permanently

    No full text
Dating violence is defined as a dyadic interaction involving the perpetration or threat of a violence, which, to include psychological violence prevents the victim from leaving the abusive relationship. However, some women can break it off and keep off permanently. This research aims to analyze the social representations and perspectives of young women who were victims of dating violence and ended their relationship by their own initiative, permanently.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Study of workers education levels in spain and portugal

    No full text
This paper considers the evolution of unemployment and occupation rates, per gender and level of education, in Spain and Portugal, based on the Labour Force Survey microdata from 2006 to 2016. The document analyses self-employed and employee rates, contracts (permanent vs temporary) and the distribution of education levels according to gender. The main results suggest that, in the period analysed, these rates have evolved similarly in Portugal and Spain and that, despite the economic crisis, the training and education levels of workers have increased.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The Role of School Social Support and School Social Climate in Dating Violence Victimization Prevention among Adolescents in Europe

    No full text
The aim of the article is to show the role of school social support and school social climate in dating violence victimization prevention among adolescents in Europe. Study participants were students from secondary schools (age 13-16) in Spain, Italy, Romania, Portugal, Poland and UK. The analysis in this text concern student with dating experience (n = 993) (57.2% of girls and 66.5% of boys). School social support was measured by School Social Climate, Factor 1 Scale (CECSCE) and by Student Social Support Scale (CASSS), subscales teachers and classmates. The association between school social support and different types of dating victimization (physical and/or sexual dating violence, control dating violence and fear) was measured by calculating the prevalence ratios and their 95% confidence intervals, estimated by Poisson regression models with robust variance. All the models were adjusted by country and by sociodemographic variables. The results show that the average values of all types of social support are significantly lower in young people who have suffered any type of dating violence or were scared of their partner. The likelihood of suffering physical and/or sexual dating violence decreased when school social support increased [PR (CI 95%): 0.96 (0.92; 0.99)]. In the same way, the likelihood of fear decreased when school social climate increased [PR (CI 95%): 0.98 (0.96; 0.99)].There is an association between school social support and school social climate and experiences of being victim of dating violence among adolescents in Europe. Our results suggest that in the prevention of dating violence building a supportive climate at schools and building/using the support of peers and teachers is important.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Helping Clients Victimized by Intimate Partners Through Stages of Change: An Emotion-Focused Approach

    No full text
Intimate partner violence results in extensive negative mental health outcomes including depression, posttraumatic stress, and anxiety. Moreover, victimized partners who experience cumulative episodes of abuse over time can also present severe affect dysregulation and interpersonal difficulties. Preliminary evidence for existing psychological treatments shows that these are globally effective on a symptomatic level and in reducing revictimization. Nonetheless, systematic reviews show high attrition rates and suggest that future interventions need to address a wider range of emotional difficulties and contextual challenges according to readiness for change. In this article, our goal is to contribute to the development of more responsive interventions that are tailored to individual experiences of violence with a focus on personal values, self-determination, and autonomy, as well as promoting adaptive coping and safety. More specifically, we describe how the intervention principles and experiential tasks of a neohumanistic model, emotion-focused therapy, can be integrated into a mediating readiness for change framework to help victimized clients receiving psychological treatment. We address four main problematic contentaffective states that may hinder the therapeutic progress (interrupting fear of change, decisional pain, overwhelming safety concerns, and long-term interpersonal injuries), their association with stages of change, and how they can be resolved insession using emotion-focused principles and interventions. The implications for future research are also discussed.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Sports Participation in Brazil

    Get PDF
The academic interest in analyzing the correlates of sports participation in several countries has increased recently. Nevertheless, in developing countries, which do not monitor sportive data, this type of investigation is still scarce. This study aims to analyze socioeconomic, motivational, and supportive factors related to sports participation in Brazil. Data from the 2015 National Household Survey—Supplementary Questionnaire of Sports and Physical Activities are examined. In the survey, 71,142 individuals older than 15 years were interviewed (mean age 43.12 years; 53.83% women and 46.17% men). Logistic regression is used for analyzing the data. Results demonstrate a low participation in sports (23.38%). Sports participation declines with increasing age (2% less per year), increases with higher educational level (graduated 5.9 times more), and males prevail in the sporting context (2.3 times more).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Participation of the Federation Units in the Investment of Sports and Leisure Policies in Brazil

    Get PDF
The purpose of this exploratory descriptive study was to evaluate the participation of state governments (federation units) in the financing of sports and leisure public policies from 2002 to 2016. In order to better understand the regional effect of investment, the information was cut by region. Two central hypotheses were tested, the concentrator effect and the equity effect. The database was formed from the consolidated expenditure record registered with the National Treasury in the Accounting and Tax Information System of the Brazilian Public Sector - Siconfi. In order to ensure the comparability of tax information, the values were deflated by the Consumer Price Index. Although there are no constraints at the level of the federation pressing the Federation Units to be active with regard to the sports agenda, these Units have been shown to be responsive to it. The overall result produces different effects between macro-regions, regions and Federation Units, concentrating the resources, or distributing them more evenly.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Intradialytic isometric handgrip exercise does not cause hemodynamic instability: A randomized, cross‐over , pilot study

    No full text
Hemodialysis (HD) patients experience hemodynamic instability and intradialytic exercise seems to attenuate it. This study aimed to verify the acute hemodynamic response to different intradialytic handgrip exercise intensities in HD patients. In a randomized, cross-over, experimental pilot study, eight patients completed two experimental sessions and one control in random order: (a) regular HD; (b) low-intensity isometric handgrip exercise; and (c) moderate-intensity isometric handgrip exercise. BP and heart rate variability were recorded immediately before and every 15 minutes. Isometric handgrip exercise protocols, regardless of the intensity, did not lead to significant changes in hemodynamic stability, nor when compared to the control condition (P > .05). The systolic BP and double product significantly increased immediately after the moderate-intensity protocol (122.0 ± 15.9 vs 131.3 ± 19.8, P < .05; 9094.7 ± 1705.7 vs 9783.0 ± 1947.9, P < .05, respectively) but returned to the pre-exercise values 10 minutes later. We conclude that intradialytic isometric handgrip exercise does not induce hemodynamic instability at low and moderate intensities.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
