Toward a Resource-Based View of City Quality: A New Framework

    No full text
Based on an extensive literature review on intelligent cities, smart cities, and happy cities, and on their conceptual connections with citizens’ well-being, quality of life, and happiness, we developed a resource-based view on City Quality: the PESNAT (political, economic, social, natural, artificial, and technological) framework. The concept of City Quality rests on the idea of cities interconnected sub-habitats—PESNAT—which are powerful analytical categories needed for understanding cities as complex and intricate loci. This framework eventually aims at assessing the cities’ power to attract businesses and people, to contribute to a sustainable development of the city and an increased quality of life. Furthermore, two hypotheses are outlined regarding the level of importance of each sub-habitat in relation to happi ness, and the level of controversy of each one for citizens, city planners, and decision makers.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

I see myself, therefore I purchase: factors influencing consumer attitudes towards m-commerce AR apps

    No full text
Mobile commerce (m-commerce) is starting to represent a significant share of e-commerce. The use of Augmented Reality (AR) by brands to convey information about their products - within the store and mainly as mobile apps – makes it possible for researchers and managers to understand consumer reactions. Although attitudes towards AR have been studied, the overall effect of distinct aspects such as the influence of others, the imagery, projection and perceived presence, has not been tackled as far as we know. Therefore, we conducted a study on 218 undergraduate students, using a pre-test post-test experimental design to address the following questions: (1) Do AR media characteristics affect consumer attitudes towards the medium in a mobile shopping context? Also, (2) Do the opinion and physical presence of people influence the attitude towards an m-commerce AR app? It found that AR characteristics such as projection and imagery positively influence attitudes towards m-commerce AR apps, whereas social variables did not have any influence.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was to analyze the direct economic impact of the 11th Douro Valley Half Marathon held in Portugal in 2016. An ad-hoc questionnaire was designed for collecting data. It was composed of four dimensions: (i) sociodemographic data, (ii) expenses, (iii) sports practice, and (iv) satisfaction with the event (54 items in total). There were 375 questionnaires randomly collected in a total of 16,330 runners. The mean expense of local participants in this half marathon was €219, while non-resident participants expended about €320. Thus, the local participants’ inflow was €1,036,965, while the non-resident participants’ inflow was €3,709,760, resulting in a total participant inflow of €4,746,725. Regarding the participants’ specific expenses, the following order was obtained: 1st, accommodation; 2nd, food; 3rd, travel costs; 4th, shopping. It was calculated that the total local economic impact of the 11th Douro Valley Half Marathon participants was almost five million euros (€4,746,725).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Quantitative monographic studies systematically use inferential statistical procedures to test hypotheses. For this purpose, sampling procedures and sample sizes need to be adequate for the proposed procedures. The aim of this study was to identify the sample selection methods, as well as the performance and types of calculation to determine the sample size adopted in theses and dissertations developed in a graduate program in the field of Physical Education. Theses and dissertations defended between 2003 and 2013 were obtained through digital repository. Only quantitative studies were included, in which the following issues were analyzed: (1) sample selection criteria; (2) presence of sample calculation; (3) calculation type to estimate sample size. A total of 199 studies were included. Of these, 6% (n=11) used probabilistic methods for sample selection and 3% (n=6) used animal models. As for the accomplishment of sample calculations, 36% (n=72) studies reported having adopted this procedure. Of studies that performed sample calculations, 25% (n=18) used predictive equations, 67% (n=48) considered methods with statistical power as their base, 3% (n=2) used confidence interval, 4% (n=3) did not mention the method and 1% (n=1) was based on the type of statistical test to be used later. Nonprobabilistic sampling methods predominate for the selection of subjects; most studies do not report adopting calculations to estimate sample size and, among those that reported the use, the models that consider statistical power as the main criterion are predominant.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    No full text

    No full text

Augmented Reality Trends to the Field of Business and Economics: A Review of 20 years of Research

    No full text
Augmented Reality (AR) is emerging as a technology that is reshaping the current society, especially the fields of Business and Economics (B&E). Therefore, the scientific studies produced on AR call for an interdisciplinary systematic review of the knowledge generated to structure an organized framework. Three main questions are addressed: How has the production of AR scientific knowledge evolved? What user-related aspects does AR affect? Also, which set of subtopics is associated with each motivation to develop an AR solution? The content of 328 papers produced between 1997 and 2016 in the field of AR is analyzed, unveiling 58 coding categories. There are 13 digital media characteristics that assume instrumental roles in addressing four major motivations to develop AR solutions. Technological topics dominate the research focus over behavioral ones. The investigations on AR in mobile displays show the highest increase. This research identifies the main scientific topics that have led researchers' agenda. Consequently, they contributed to develop and to adopt AR solutions and to forecast its future application in the organizations' strategiesinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
