Estabilidade dimensional de hidrocolóides irreversíveis com vazamento convencional e vazamento prolongado disponíveis no mercado uruguaio.
Objetivo. Comparar la estabilidad dimensional de un hidrocoloide irreversible de vaciado convencional con hidrocoloides irreversibles de vaciado extendido. Metodología. Fueron evaluados cuatro productos con indicación de vaciado extendido: Jeltrate Plus (Denstply Sirona), Hydrogum 5 (Zhermack SpA), Algimax (Major), Kromopan (Lascod) y un producto de vaciado convencional (Tropicalgin; Zhermack SpA). Con cada producto se realizaron 10 impresiones y se vaciaron en yeso tipo III en cinco tiempos de almacenamiento diferentes (0, 24, 96, 120 y 168 horas). Un escáner para modelos tridimensionales se utilizó para digitalizar los modelos de yeso y realizar las mediciones correspondientes: sumatoria de las longitudes, variabilidad dimensional, porcentaje de variabilidad. Resultados. Las cinco marcas comerciales presentaron una sumatoria de longitudes mayor al grupo control (p<0,033). A las 0, 24 y 96h Tropicalgin e Hydrogum 5 presentaron significativamente menor variación dimensional en comparación con el modelo maestro (p<0,001). Los porcentajes de variabilidad oscilaron entre un 0.24 a 0.91%. Conclusiones. La estabilidad dimensional depende del producto utilizado. Almacenado correctamente, el hidrocoloide irreversible de vaciado convencional parece no sufrir alteraciones significativas hasta 96h, mientras que en el caso de Hydrogum 5 parece mantener su estabilidad dimensional hasta 168h.Aim. Compare the dimensional stability of a conventional pouring irreversible hydrocolloid with extended pouring irreversible hydrocolloids. Methodology. Four products with extended emptying indication were evaluated: Jeltrate Plus (Denstply Sirona), Hydrogum 5 (Zhermack SpA), Algimax (Major), Kromopan (Lascod) and a con-
ventional emptying product (Tropicalgin; Zhermack SpA). For each product, 10 impressions were made and cast in type III plaster at five different storage times (0, 24, 96, 120 and 168 hours). A three-dimensional model scanner was used to digitize the plaster models and make the corresponding measurements: sum of lengths, dimensional variability, percent age of variability.Results. The five commercial brands presented a greater sum of lengths than the control group (p<0,033). At 0, 24 and 96h Tropicalgin and Hydrogum 5 presented significantly less dimensional variation compared to the master model (p<0,001). The variability percentages ranged from 0.24 to 0.91%. Conclusions. Dimensional stability depends on the product used. Stored correctly, the conventionally cast irreversible hydrocolloid appears not to undergo significant alterations up to 96h, while
in the case of Hydrogum 5 it appears to maintain its dimensional stability up to 168h.Objetivo. Para cada produto foram feitas 10 impressões e vazadas em gesso tipo III em cinco tempos de armazenamento diferentes (0, 24, 96, 120 e 168 horas). Um scanner de modelos tridimensionais foi utilizado para digitalizar os modelos de gesso e fazer as medições correspondentes: soma dos comprimentos, variabilidade dimensional, percentagem de variabilidade. Resultados. As cinco marcas comerciais apresentaram somatório de omprimentos maior que o grupo controle (p<0,033). Nos tempos 0, 24 e 96h Tropicalgin e Hydrogum 5 apresentaram variação dimensional significativamente menor em comparaçãoao modelo Mestre (p<0,001). Os percentuais de variabilidade variaram de 0,24 a 0,91%. Conclusões. A estabilidade dimensional depende do produto utilizado. Armazenado corretamente, o hidrocolóide irreversível de vaziamento convencional convencionalmente parece não sofrer alterações significativas até 96h, enquanto no caso do Hydrogum 5 parece manter sua estabilidade dimensional até 168h
Central bank digital currency, disintermediation, and bank runs
Esta tesis analiza si la introducción de una moneda digital del banco central (CBDC, por sus siglas en inglés) aumenta o disminuye la exposición del sistema bancario a corridas bancarias y desintermediación. Para ello, extiendo el modelo seminal de [Diamond and Dybvig, 1983]. Demuestro que las CBDCs pueden ayudar a prevenir corridas bancarias, siempre que la proporción de usuarios de CBDC sea suficientemente alta. Frente a un exceso de retiros, el banco central puede proporcionar liquidez a los bancos ilíquidos mediante una política de asistencia de liquidez de emergencia (ELA, por sus siglas eninglés). Si suficientes retiros se realizan a través de CBDC, el banco central dispondrá de los fondos necesarios de forma inmediata para implementar la ELA. Si se espera que el banco central ponga en marcha esta política, se evitan las corridas bancarias. La asignación óptima se puede alcanzar como un único equilibrio de Nash, siempre y cuando la proporción de consumidores impacientes no sea estocástica. Si la CBDC es estrictamente preferida al efectivo, las corridas bancarias se previenen sin necesidad de hacer supuestos sobre el uso de la CBDC. Finalmente, demuestro que, incluso cuando la proporción de consumidores impacientes es desconocida, la ELA previene las corridas bancarias y mejora el bienestar en comparación con la suspensión de convertibilidad de depósitos. En resumen, los resultados sugieren que la introducción de las CBDCs tiene el potencial de mitigar las corridas bancarias y no provocar desintermediación.This thesis examines whether the introduction of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) makes the banking system more or less exposed to bankruns and disintermediation. To address this question, I build on the seminal paper of [Diamond and Dybvig, 1983]. I show that CBDCs help prevent bankruns on real demand deposits, provided that the proportion of CBDC usersis sufficiently high. In the event of excessive withdrawals, the central bankcan lend to illiquid banks through an emergency liquidity assistance (ELA) policy. If enough withdrawals are made via CBDC, then sufficient fundsare immediately available to the central bank to implement an ELA. If the central bank is expected to implement an ELA, bank runs are prevented. Full insurance equilibrium can be achieved as a unique Nash equilibrium, as longas the share of early consumers is non-stochastic. If the CBDC is strictly preferred to cash, bank runs are prevented without any assumption on CBDC use. Finally, I show that even when the share of early consumers is unknown, an ELA can still prevent bank runs, and also improves welfare compared to suspension of convertibility of deposits. Overall, the findings suggest that thei ntroduction of CBDCs holds potential for mitigating bank runs and avoiding disintermediation
Hacia una comunicación cooperativa con mayor impacto identitario de CUDECOOP
Tribunal: Siboney Moreira, Yanet Fuster, Daniel Ottado.En el marco del Seminario taller de Comunicación Organizacional desarrollado
durante el año 2023 y la realización del Trabajo Final de Grado en la Facultad de
Información y Comunicación (FIC – UDELAR), se llevó adelante una intervención
en la Confederación Uruguaya de Entidades Cooperativas (CUDECOOP).
El análisis realizado en el diagnóstico comunicacional con sus respectivas
recomendaciones y los acuerdos establecidos con la organización, constituyen los
principales antecedentes de este Trabajo Final de Grado. En función de los cuales,
se le presenta a CUDECOOP el Plan Estratégico de Comunicación (PEC) donde
se determinan las acciones y los productos entregables, en relación a las
necesidades comunicacionales derivadas de la etapa inicial. Se concreta la
realización de 2 productos entregables, un canal de WhatsApp y Cápsulas
Radiales (mini podcasts). Además, se proporciona una versión beta del listado de
entidades de la economía social para conformar posteriormente un directorio que
las agrupe y donde se puedan ubicar fácilmente dentro de la web de CUDECOOP.
El Plan Estratégico de Comunicación se encuentra orientado a contribuir en la
proyección de la identidad de la Confederación, a través de la gestión de la
comunicación para reforzar la llegada a sus federaciones socias, cooperativas de
base y cooperativistas.Within the framework of the Organizational Communication Seminar-Workshop held
during the year 2023 and the completion of the Bachelor’s Degree Final Project the
Facultad de Información y Comunicación (FIC - UDELAR), an intervention was
carried out at the Confederación Uruguaya de Entidades Cooperativas
(CUDECOOP).
The analysis conducted in the communicational diagnosis along with its respective
recommendations and the agreements established with the organization constitute
the main background of this Final Thesis. Based on these, the Communication
Strategic Plan is presented to CUDECOOP, outlining the actions and deliverables
in response to the communicational needs identified during the initial stage. The
implementation of 2 deliverable products is finalized, namely a WhatsApp channel
and radio capsules (mini-podcasts). Additionally, a beta version of the list of social
economy entities is provided to subsequently form a directory that groups them and
allows easy access within the CUDECOOP website.
The Communication Strategic Plan is aimed at contributing to the projection of the
Confederation's identity through communication management to reinforce its reach
to its member federations, grassroots cooperatives, and cooperatives
Wave breaking events and their link to rossby wave packets and atmospheric blockings during southern hemisphere summer
Rossby Wave Packets (RWPs) are atmospheric perturbations located at upper levels in mid‐latitudes which, in certain cases, terminate in Rossby Wave Breaking (RWB) events. When sufficiently persistent and spatially extended, these RWB events are synoptically identical to atmospheric blockings, which are linked to heatwaves and droughts. Thus, studying RWB events after RWPs propagation and their link with blocking is key to enhance extreme weather events detection 10–30 days in advance. Hence, here we assess (a) the occurrence of RWB events after the propagation of transient RWPs, (b) whether long‐lived RWPs (RWPs with a lifespan above 8 days, or LLRWPs) are linked to large‐scale RWB events that could form a blocking event, and (c) the proportion of blocking situations that occur near RWB events. To do so, we applied a tracking algorithm to detect transient RWPs in the southern hemisphere during summertime between 1979 and 2021, developed a wave breaking algorithm to identify RWB events, and searched for blocking events with different intensities. Results show that LLRWPs and the other RWPs displayed large‐scale RWB events around 40% of the time, and most RWB events in both distributions last around 1–2 days, which is not long enough to identify them as blocking situations. Nearly 17% of blockings have a RWB event nearby, but barely 5% of blockings are linked to RWPs, suggesting that transient RWPs are not strongly linked to blocking development. Alerta Farmacovigilancia: Actualización sobre los informes de ideación suicida con agonistas del GLP-1
En enero del 2024, la Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos (FDA, por sus siglas en inglés) de Estados Unidos presentó una actualización sobre su evaluación de reportes de ideas o intentos de autoeliminación en pacientes utilizando agonistas del receptor del péptido similar al glucagón 1 (GLP-1).
Los agonistas del GLP-1 son un grupo farmacológico que presenta acciones glucorreguladoras similares a las «incretinas», un grupo de hormonas gastrointestinales que se liberan después de los alimentos y estimulan la secreción de insulina. Además de estimular la secreción de insulina, los agonistas del GLP-1 retrasan el vaciado gástrico (lo que disminuye la velocidad a la que la glucosa derivada de la ingestión de comidas aparece en la circulación) y reducen la ingesta de alimentos debido a una disminución del apetito y un aumento de la saciedad
Political right, religious actors and conservative project in Uruguay: the agenda anti gender at the core
Uruguay, al igual que otros países de la región, experimentó una regresión política conservadora luego de quince años de gobiernos progresistas, con un gobierno de corte neoliberal, que ha impulsado una estrategia provida, y con una presencia inédita de personalidades vinculadas a los ámbitos religiosos y militares. Los movimientos y políticas antifeministas en Uruguay cobraron nuevo ímpetu con el cambio de gobierno en 2020, logrando impulsar cambios discursivos y legales. En el centro del discurso y las propuestas aparece el fortalecimiento de la familia tradicional, la masculinidad hegemónica y la limitación de los derechos referidos a la salud sexual. El artículo examina la implantación del proyecto conservador en Uruguay en dos niveles de acción: en la promoción de normativa legal con contenido antifeminista, y en la legitimación de discursos antigénero por un lado. Por otro, se estudia la articulación de actores sociales, políticos y religiosos que se produce en torno a esta agenda, a nivel nacional y en su articulación transnacional. Ambos niveles de acción se articulan en políticas públicas que se impulsan desde el Poder Ejecutivo en ministerios claves como salud pública y desarrollo social.Uruguai, assim como outros países da região, experimenta uma regressão política conservadora após quinze anos de governos progressistas, com um governo neoliberal, que promoveu uma estratégia pró-vida, e com uma presença sem precedentes de personalidades ligadas aos campos religioso e militar. Os movimentos e políticas antifeministas no Uruguai ganharam impulso com a mudança de governo em 2020, promovendo mudanças discursivas e jurídicas. No centro do discurso e das propostas aparecem o fortalecimento da família tradicional, a masculinidade hegemônica e a limitação de direitos relacionados à saúde sexual. O artigo examina a implementação do projeto conservador no Uruguai em dois níveis de ação: na promoção de regulamentações legais com conteúdo antifeminista, e na legitimação de discursos antigênero, por um lado. Por outro lado, estuda-se a articulação de atores sociais, políticos e religiosos que ocorre em torno desta agenda, a nível nacional e na sua articulação transnacional. Ambos os níveis de atuação estão articulados em políticas públicas promovidas pelo Poder Executivo em ministérios-chave como saúde pública e desenvolvimento social.Uruguay, like other countries in the region, experienced a conservative political regression after fifteen years of progressive governments, with a neoliberal government, which has promoted a pro-life strategy, and with an unprecedented presence of personalities linked to the military and religious arena. Anti-feminist movements and policies in Uruguay gained new impetus with the change of government in 2020, managing to promote discursive and legal changes. At the center of the discourse and proposals appears the strengthening of the traditional family, hegemonic masculinity and the limitation of rights related to sexual health. The article examines the implementation of the conservative project in Uruguay at two levels of action: in the promotion of legal regulations with anti-feminist content, and in the legitimization of anti-gender discourses on the one hand. On the other hand, the articulation of social, political and religious actors that occurs around this agenda is studied, at the national level and in its transnational articulation. Both levels of action are articulated in public policies that are promoted by the Executive Branch in key ministries such as public health and social development
Fan chirp transform with nonlinear time warping

In its original form, the FChT considers that each fundamental frequency (along with the higher harmonics) of the signal may vary linearly in a period of time. This model, however, may be considered poor for some types of signals, especially those whose fundamental frequencies vary rapidly with time. By allowing quadratic frequency variation, this article presents a solution to this problem, which may be considered the next step of the FChT. No-reference video quality measurement : added value of machine learning

Video quality is, however, subjective, and thus, there will always be interobserver differences in the subjective opinion about the visual quality of the same video. Despite this, most existing works on objective quality measurement typically focus only on predicting a single score and evaluate their prediction accuracies based on how close it is to the mean opinion scores (or similar average based ratings). Clearly, such an approach ignores the underlying diversities in the subjective scoring process and, as a result, does not allow further analysis on how reliable the objective prediction is in terms of subjective variability. Consequently, the aim of this paper is to analyze this issue and present a machine-learning based solution to address it. We demonstrate the utility of our ideas by considering the practical scenario of video broadcast transmissions with focus on digital terrestrial television (DTT) and proposing a no-reference objective video quality estimator for such application. We conducted meaningful verification studies on different video content (including video clips recorded from real DTT broadcast transmissions) in order to verify the performance of the proposed solution. EEG signal pre-processing for the P300 speller

CIARP 2015One of the workhorses of Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI) is the P300 speller, which allows a person to spell text by looking at the corresponding letters that are laid out on a flashing grid. The device functions by detecting the Event Related Potentials (ERP), which can be measured in an electroencephalogram (EEG), that occur when the letter that the subject is looking at flashes (unexpectedly). In this work, after a careful analysis of the EEG signals involved, we propose a preprocessing method that allows us to improve on the state-of-the-art results for this kind of applications. Our results are comparable, and sometimes better, than the best results published, and do not require a feature (channel) selection step, which is extremely costly, and which must be applied to each user of the P300 speller separatel
