Analyzing the Impact of Redaction on Document Classification Performance of Deep CNN Models

    No full text
Many companies are facing growing data archives leading to an increasing focus on the automated classification of documents in corporate processes. Due to data protection guidelines, development with clear data is often difficult. One way to overcome this difficulty is to desensitize documents using document redaction. The following study, therefore, examines the impact of redaction on the document classification performance of a deep CNN model by analyzing how the classifica- tion performance deteriorates when the model is trained on unredacted documents and evaluated on redacted data (unredacted model) or trained on redacted data and applied to unredacted documents (redacted model). For the former condition, a loss in accuracy of 2.56%P was found and a loss of 2.08%P for the latter. We were also able to show that the loss in performance differed greatly between document classes and was influenced by their proportion of redacted area (unredacted model: r=0.31; redacted model: r=0.87). For the model trained with redacted and evaluated on unredacted data, we also determined that the decrease in classification accu- racy was affected by the intra-class variability of the redacted area (r=0.74). From these results, recommendations for dealing with redacted data in document classification systems are derived

Governance of IT/OT Convergence: A Review of Academic and Practitioner Literature

    No full text
The convergence, i.e., integration, of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) is a critical aspect of digital transformation in industries, driving efficiency, innovation, and competitive advantage. However, this integration also introduces significant challenges, particularly in governance. This paper presents a comprehensive literature review of IT/OT convergence, focusing on the governance challenges and strategies drawn from both academic and practitioner literature. The findings reveal that effective governance is crucial for successful IT/OT convergence, requiring clear definitions of roles and responsibilities, cross-functional collaboration, and a unified approach to mitigate risks and align organizational goals. Key IT/OT convergence governance strategies include establishing a Center of Excellence, adopting a risk-based approach, and fostering a culture of change. The paper highlights the need for further research to develop comprehensive governance frameworks and empirically examine the impact of governance on IT/OT convergence success. This paper provides valuable insights for both researchers and practitioners navigating the complexities of IT/OT convergence and governance in the era of Industry 4.0

Enhancing work-based learning through the i-wobal project and its digital school of work-based learning (WBL) facilitators

    No full text
The i-WOBAL project, supported by Erasmus+, strategically enhances work-based learning (WBL) in higher education and vocational training across Europe, with a particular focus on supporting the professional development of company and academic facilitators of students engaged in WBL environments. This initiative launches the i-WOBAL didactical guide, together with the establishment of the digital school of WBL facilitators, a digital learning space designed to translate the theoretical framework of the guide into practical, actionable strategies for facilitators. The project is the result of the coordinated work of a consortium of 7 higher education and vocational training institutions from 5 different European countries. The digital school of WBL facilitators serves as a training hub where facilitators from both academic institutions and the business sector receive specialised training to effectively guide and support students. The digital school offers a structured curriculum, including modules on relevant soft skills, to ensure that facilitators are well equipped to manage and enhance the WBL experience for students. This paper describes the curriculum and pedagogical approaches of the digital school of WBL facilitators, its role in facilitating the practical application of WBL strategies and the collaboration of the partners to bring in their unique expertise. The collaborative nature of the i-WOBAL project, involving a consortium of European educational and corporate institutions, promotes a shared culture of best practice and continuous innovation in WBL. The potential scalability of this model offers significant implications for future educational policies aimed at standardising and improving the facilitation of WBL across different educational systems and market environments

Umzugsplanung mit Fabrikdatenmodellen und Virtual Reality

    No full text
Given a dynamic industrial environment, manufacturing companies must remain flexible and continuously adapt to maintain their competitiveness. Effective planning of restructuring efforts in production systems, often referred to as reconfiguration planning, is crucial to avoid delays and minimize downtime. Identifying reconfiguration cases, which describe the scope of resources to be relocated, such as machines, equipment, and workstations, and defining the associated tasks are essential steps in reconfiguration planning. This paper presents an approach for determining reconfiguration cases using a factory data model, complemented by visualization in virtual reality, to support planners in the reconfiguration process

The “Human Rights Profession” and War: Humanitarian Help and Social Work in Armed Conflicts

    No full text
Whereas, in the past, social work publications dealing with armed conflict were of interest to a relatively small community; beginning with the Ukraine conflict, this issue has moved into the center of social work discourses. This has raised issues concerning the positioning of social work in political and armed conflict again. Looking at the literature on social work and armed conflicts, it is generally assumed that the definition of the human rights profession also holds for social work in situations of violent collective conflicts. This, however, raises questions. This paper will argue that antinomies emerge for social work resulting from the definition as a human rights profession and the realities of humanitarian work in armed conflicts which have yet to be dealt with

Mechanical robustness analysis of semiconductors with a single needle probe card using acoustic emissions

    No full text
The combination of indentation testing and acoustic emission (AE) is widely used to analyze the fracture toughness of test substrates. In the manufacturing of semiconductor devices this material parameter also plays an important role. During the so-called wafer testing inside a wafer prober small probe tips are pressed onto the chip surface to check its performance. To prevent damaging the chip by that, the fracture toughness and load limit of it has to be defined in a prequalification step. This paper presents a test system that imitates the wafer testing process as close as possible and uses acoustic emission to detect appearing cracks and thereby also the load limit. The frontend of the test setup consists of a modular single needle probe card which can be placed in a wafer prober. Also, the indenter properties (tip diameter, stiffness, etc.) can be adjusted to the probe used later on during productive wafer testing to ensure realistic probing conditions. A piezoelectric sensor and a full strain gauge Wheatstone bridge are implemented close to the single indenter to measure the AEs and the applied contact force respectively. The signal-to-noise-ratios (SNRs) of both sensors are improved with an own analog amplifier module before recording them with an USB oscilloscope. A developed measurement software (LabVIEW) is used to adjust measurement parameters (trigger limit, record length, conversion factors, etc.) and automatically store and separate measurement data from different acoustic events and imprints. To evaluate the result files a second software tool (MATLAB) reads the files out and clusters the recorded events to separate crack signals from electrical and mechanical disturbances. With a prototype first test results are generated and the functionality and accuracy of the measurement concept is proven

Compression Therapy in Acute Deep Venous Thrombosis of the Lower Limb and for the Prevention of Post-Thrombotic Syndrome

    No full text
Background: After an acute deep venous thrombosis (DVT) of the lower limb, 20% to 63% of patients develop post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS). In this review, we address the efficacy of compression therapy in the treatment of acute DVT of the lower limb, and for the prevention of PTS. Methods: 12 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and one meta-analysis, with a total of 3751 patients, were identified in a structured literature search. Results: Two RCTs showed that adding compression therapy to drug treatment in the first 9 days of the acute phase of lower limb DVT led to more rapid pain relief (p<0.050) and less swelling (remaining difference in circumference, 1 cm versus 3 cm, p<0.050). As for the prevention of PTS, four RCTs showed a short-term benefit or no benefit of compression therapy. In three further RCTs, medical compression stockings (MCS) brought about a 16% to 27% absolute reduction of the frequency and severity of PTS (47% vs. 20 %, p<0.001; 40% vs. 21% (95% confidence intervals [29.9; 50.1] and [12.7; 29.5], respectively; and 58% vs. 42%, relative risk [RR] 0.73 [0,55; 0.96]). The benefit of MCS was also confirmed in a recent meta-analysis (RR 0.66 [0.44; 0.99], I2 = 88%). Thigh-length MCS were not superior to knee-length MCS for the prevention of PTS (33% vs. 36%, hazard ratio [HR] 0.93 [0.62; 1.41]). Individual, symptomoriented tailoring of the duration of treatment was not inferior to a fixed treatment duration of 24 months (29% vs. 28%; odds ratio [OR] 1.06 [0.78;1.44]). Conclusion: Compression therapy relieves symptoms in acute DVT and lessens the frequency and severity of PTS. It is therefore recommended as standard treatment
