Mechanical Preparation of External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems
The building industry relies heavily on energy conservation, energy efficiency, and resource efficiency. Thermal insulation composite systems (TICS) have been used to insulate building facades since the 1970s, resulting in significant energy savings. Additionally, as a result of EnEV 2002 implementation, energy consumption for building facades has gradually increased. The initial systems have reached the end of their useful life due to the durability of these composites, and an increasing amount of TICS waste has been generated in recent years. TICS are currently processed solely in waste incineration plants; no other method of recycling these devices exists. Due to technical constraints and the high calorific value of TICS, thermal disposal alone is not feasible. Additionally, because TICS systems are comprised of numerous components, significant resources will be wasted if they are not recycled properly. This study examines actual TICS waste that is technologically processed in order to recycle it based on its composition
An exploratory study of how to effectively communicate the level of hotness/spiciness of food items
Preferences for spiciness in food varies greatly from person to person. In addition, the notion of spiciness itself varies greatly from culture to culture and from region to region making it hard to effectively represent and communicate the level of spiciness of food items in restaurant menus and food packaging. In this study we explore the use of virtual taste sensation as a means of effectively communicating the desired or available level of spiciness between the consumer and the provider. Based on prior research on electrical and thermal stimulation of taste sensations, we have developed a device capable of simulating the sensation of hotness on the human tongue through the use of a low voltage electrical current delivered via a set of electrodes and control panel. The development process of the device consisted of the following two steps: 1. We conducted an observational study in which participants were asked to rate their spiciness preference using a commonly used hot sauce which was mixed with either water or rice. 2. Participants were asked to match their spiciness preference using the device at different voltage levels. Although the device only generates the stinging sensation and not the full flavour sensation associated with a spice such as a chili pepper it proved effective in assessing and communicating the spiciness preference of the study participants. Thus, we argue the device holds great promise for developing applications focused on communicating spiciness levels, e.g. the spiciness of the contents of a food package, the spiciness of items in a restaurant menu, or the spiciness of various chili peppers in a market
Evaluation of Solidworks on how to integrate part preparation for Additive Manufacturing in the CAD modeling process
Solidworks is a CAD software that facilitates the construction of 3D models and drawings to enable production. These systems are usually designed to be used in conjunction with Subtractive Manufacturing (SM) and forming processes. This is due to the enormous portion of world-wide production in which these two processes are used. Because of this, design guidelines are customarily based on the abilities and constraints of conventional manufacturing processes. Additive Manufacturing (AM) replaces these with a new set of advantages and limitations that should be considered to assist in the design of parts. Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) represents a methodology which closely resembles Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM), as far as reducing component count and allow for easier manufacturing. The aim of this research is to establish DfAM criteria and to evaluate the core Solidworks software in its ability to support design using these criteria. DfAM criteria is sub-divided into two categories. Product DfAM criteria are those derived from the advantages offered by AM technology, while Process DfAM are those determined by the limitations of the AM technique used. Three example models, each addressing multiple criteria, are created in Solidworks and optimized for printing. Through this process, helpful features in the software are identified and analyzed. Embodiment of these examples by means of Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) validates these features in an exemplary way and explores the integration of AM design practices in Solidworks. The results of this evaluation will allow further research into CAD support for AM, specifically with respect to Product DfAM
Mental well-being is a part of health (WHO, 1946). Since the beginning of the pandemic, it has declined for most people, especially young people (Cox et al., 2020). Because of isolation, teaching has to take place online, which is associated with many negative aspects, such as less fun learning, less motivation, stress and lower performance (Prowse et al., 2021).
Only a few positive aspects are mentioned, e. g. the elimination of the lane and individual time management (Traus et al., 2020). The aim of the study is to analyse the current state of mental well-being of students and their views on digital communication at their university. The measuring instrument is the qualitative semi-structured interview, since the aim is to collect individual opinions and the topic is still quite new. The case selection is limited to eight young students from different parts of Germany who are enrolled in different study programmes. The evaluation method is the qualitative content analysis according to Mayring. The well-being of students has deteriorated, mainly due to the lack of social interaction. Students want to return to normal student life. In digital communication, e. g. the organisation of the examination management criticises the fact that the information is published very late and the large number of different teaching portals. The quick opportunity to ask questions via question forums is praised. Students would like to use a few open university rooms for practical activities.
According to Maslows, social needs are an important level. This explains the importance of the social aspect of the participants. Future research could take a closer look at risk factors and longitudinal studies would also be interesting

Brand Equity’s Impact on Firm Performance and the Supporting Role of Social Media
The 21st-century has brought about a range of new, digital media which have experienced an exponential growth in popularity. This has been further supported by the emergence of social media, which provides users a platform for social networking and brands and firms an opportunity to reach consumers in a new manner. The integration of social media into marketing communications of a firm offers numerous benefits, including the strengthening of branding activities and the creation of heightened levels of brand equity, which ultimately translate into increased levels of financial performance as a result of increased sales and augmented pricing strategies and overall firm performance. Due to the tremendous impact of social media platforms, it is necessary for firms to strategically assess this topic and to consider numerous aspects to be able to fully grasp the benefits social media inherits. Therefore, a practical model was developed, which provides firms with a strategic approach towards integrating social media into their marketing practices and provides means for monitoring and controlling the new marketing channel. By utilizing social media, firms and brands can augment their overall performance as well as brand equity levels, which provides them with a competitive advantage and positioning in the market against the multitude of competitors. However, due to the dynamic nature of the sphere of social media, new developments and changes must be closely observed and adapted to, which requires an agile management and marketing of firms, as well as the allocation of adequate resources
This paper is a summary of the “Kaiserthermen Project'' for the “Landesmuseum Trier” and shows in detail how to convert a 3Ds Max 3D model for usage into an open source program like Blender. It tries to explain the basics of 3D modelling and compares it to the 3D modelling of cultural heritages. It should work as a form of manual to further convert different models into the FBX file format.
It also aims to explain the high value of cultural heritage as a 3D model and compares it to the 3D model of the “Trier Kaiserthermen”. It furthermore gives examples and reasons for the usage of 3D models in different fields.
It also presents the final 3D renderings and shows how they were created. At the end it explains how the perfect model for scientific research should be and how this project and paper improved this for the “Kaiserthermen”
