The identification of rurality at Nuts-3 level in Turkey
Rural-urban interactions have become an even more important issue with global changes and developments. These areas, where population density and agricultural production are low, have a complex social, economic and natural structure that cannot be handled from a single perspective. This situation necessitates a multidimensional approach to rural areas and rurality. The study aims to address the socio-demographic and economic structure of Turkey’s provinces with a multidimensional approach and to analyze them comparatively. The data set of the study consists of 14 socio-demographic and 15 economic variables used in defining rural-urban areas. Three different clustering analysis methods (K-means, Ward, Two Step) were used in the study in which SPSS program was applied. As a result of the analyzes made with three clustering methods, the spatial distribution of the ruralness levels of the provinces was mapped and the variables that lead to cluster formation were determined. The results of these cluster analyses conducted with different methods at the NUTS-3 level in Turkey include a methodological discussion and a comparative determination. Although there are spatial differences as a result of the analysis of rurality with both socio-demographic and economic variables, the general similarity of the clusters formed by the three methods is significant. As a result, these processes, which are carried out comparatively with alternative clustering methods, are important in determining rural and urban areas and guide the production of healthy decisions and policies for the problems and potentials of settlements
Strategies and instruments for active mobility: comparison of international experiences
Starting from the relationship between urban planning and mobility management, TeMA has gradually expanded the view of the covered topics, always remaining in the groove of rigorous scientific in-depth analysis. This section of the Journal, Review Notes, is the expression of continuously updating emerging topics concerning relationships between urban planning, mobility and environment, through a collection of short scientific papers written by young researchers. The Review Notes are made of four parts. Each section examines a specific aspect of the broader information storage within the main interests of TeMA Journal. In particular, the Urban strategies, programmes and tools section presents the different strategies and tools for active mobility implemented internationally. The contribution aims to address the issue of active mobility in the context of sustainable urban planning on a global scale. In this direction, this review provides an overview of strategies and tools that promote active mobility options in urban areas and identify best practices from cities around the world. In recent sustainable urban mobility policies, at all levels of governance, the focus has been on active mobility identified as one of the key components for the transition to a neutral climate and an inclusive urban future, more resilient and safer
Exploring approaches and solutions for urban safety: a focus on women
Starting from the relationship between urban planning and mobility management, TeMA has gradually expanded the view of the covered topics, always remaining in the groove of rigorous scientific in-depth analysis. This section of the Journal, Review Notes, is the expression of continuously updating emerging topics concerning relationships between urban planning, mobility, and environment, through a collection of short scientific papers written by young researchers. The Review Notes are made of five parts. Each section examines a specific aspect of the broader information storage within the main interests of TeMA Journal. In particular, this section focuses on the challenges that urban planning commonly faces in the context of urban safety, providing food for thought to readers and fellow researchers. This contribution aims to examine these challenges and the solutions proposed in the scientific literature, specifically in books, journals, and reports. For the first issue of TeMA Journal volume no. 17, this section is dedicated at identifying the gaps between the theoretical scientific progress and their actual practical implementation
Permanently temporary. Street experiments in the Torino Mobility Lab project
Street experiments introduce changes in the use, regulation or form of streets with the aim of triggering systemic shifts in urban mobility from motorized traffic to active travel and more livable public space. Generally intended to be temporary at implementation, street experiments may be repeated over time or even become permanent, depending on their success. This paper analyses four experimental road reallocation interventions that were implemented in August/December 2020 in the Italian city of Turin, as part of the Torino Mobility Lab project. These pedestrianizations were implemented in a temporary, experimental and low-cost way for four months, during which a monitoring activity was launched in order 1) to measure the use and the perception of the value of these temporary pedestrianizations in order to decide whether or not to make them permanent, and 2) to collect data on the ways they were used, as well as suggestions from their users for the design of the permanent versions of those that would have been confirmed. The paper analyses this monitoring/evaluation process and identifies some barriers and factors that can complicate and slow down the transition from temporary to permanent street reallocation
In Napoli Ferrovia (2007), Ermanno Rea offers a reflection on Naples in the 2000s. In this work, he depicts a city that shines in its multi-ethnic and Mediterranean guise, but also exhibits its violent and toxic soul. The narrator, the writer’s alter-ego, rediscovers the city thanks to the guide of Caracas, a modern-day Virgil who accompanies him through the streets of the Ferrovia and the historic centre of Naples. Two other stories take place in these two neighbourhoods, those of Luigi Incoronato and Rosa La Rosa, both serving to bring together the Naples of the 1970s-1980s and the Naples of the new millennium. Recalling the symbolism of flânerie and the cultural categories of representative spaces and representational spaces as elaborated by French theorist H. Lefebvre, the present essay invites us to explore the “secret topography” of Napoli Ferrovia and the relationship between landscape and character, broadening the perspective also to the vision of Caracas, a radical, extreme character who enriches the vision of a Naples pathologically destined for self-destruction.

Why Do We Love These Damn TV Series? An Introduction to the Contemporary TV Series’ Narratives: A Sociological and Mediological Perspective.
TV series have become a central medium in the representation of social transformations, cultural processes, and the multiple and heterogeneous identities of contemporary society. This crucial function of TV series can only be fully understood if we analyze the evolution of the TV medium within the broader scenario of digital cultures and the mediatization of everyday life
The essay reconstructs the oscillations through which chorality – understood according to the meaning borrowed from Jean-Pierre Sarrazac – is exercised in Samuel Beckett’s work, notably in Play, Come and Go, and Quad. In Play the voices of W1, W2 and M proceed by alternating solos except for the choruses, in which the spotlight-directed polyphony acquires its own character of simultaneity. Flo, Vi and Ru in Come and Go weave their scenic-vocal score in the rituality of a disseminated trio, destined to break up and recompose. Finally, from the combinatory trajectories of Quad emerges a mute chorality expressed by choreographic formulas that are accompanied by percussive musical sounds.
For a plural Hamlet
The Italian actor and director uses the dramatic structure taken from Heiner Müller’s Die Hamlemaschine to stage some parts inspired by William Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Hamlet. The result is a complex spectacle where the whole dramaturgy is based on a plural perspective embodied by a single presence on the stage that can be defined as a projection of Hamlet filtered by the Fortinbras’ sights
(Neo)Romantic preludes. Remembering childhood in Katherine Mansfield’s short stories
The essay analyses the influence of a mode of recollection perfected in the Romantic era by William Wordsworth on the short stories of the ‘Burnell cycle’ by Katherine Mansfield. The aim is to propose a grammar of modernist memory that, while innovative, can and should be read as a manifest legacy of the mnestic epiphany of Wordsworthian “spots of time”. Relying on both philological data and general reflections on the concept of influence and interconnection between literary epochs, the essay focuses on some emblematic moments of well-known stories such as “Prelude” and “At the Bay”. In conclusion, the essay attempts to interpret the irenic and direct relationship between Mansfield and her Romantic ‘forefathers’ within the debate on the legacies of Romantic poetry in the early twentieth century, made famous by T. S. Eliot’s notorious anti-Romanticism
