This paper investigates the encounter, dialogue, and contamination of Leibnizian monadology in phenomenology. It analyzes both the theoretical-phenomenological motivations that led the German phenomenologist to reintroduce the notion of the monad and the consequent intersubjective path that enabled a more solid degree of objectivity, through the “res publica” of monads or their harmonic agreement. Additionally, it examines the critical issues in Husserl's interpretation. The aim is to highlight that the Monadenlehre develops on a plane of theoretical and historical immanence which takes over and modifies the results of Leibniz’s philosophy. All this serves to emphasize that the thoughts of the philosopher from Leipzig, embedded in phenomenological reflection, come back to life, initiating a new spiritual generativity, even though the historical reconstruction conducted by the phenomenologist is sometimes confused and naive.

An opportunity to re-discover the complexity of inclusion. The experiences of Mantua
No full textCities are complex systems that integrate different elements to create inclusive, liveable spaces. The pandemic has brought significant changes, calling for a reconsideration of urban values and a new interpretation of inclusion, especially in vulnerable areas. Our study, applied in Mantua, in collaboration with the municipal administration, developed an inclusive knowledge framework and launched initiatives to address the new challenges of the contemporary city. Through a series of didactic, research and third mission activities, we have attempted to develop tools to address urban issues related to the themes of urban accessibility, inclusion, sustainability, co-design, proximity and involvement processes, like Placemaking approach. These experiences have led to the definition of six key concepts for the design of urban spaces: elimination of architectural barriers; rethinking the relationship between buildings and the city; integration of proximity in everyday spaces; valorisation of diversity and the human dimension; inclusive improvement for all; adaptability and flexibility of spaces. These concepts make it possible to understand and manage the changing the complexity of cities, supporting urban projects in continuous transformation.

Le città sono sistemi complessi che integrano elementi differenti per creare spazi inclusivi e vivibili. La pandemia ha introdotto cambiamenti significativi, richiedendo una revisione dei valori urbani e una nuova interpretazione dell'inclusione, specialmente nelle aree vulnerabili. Il nostro studio, applicato a Mantova, in collaborazione con l'Amministrazione Comunale, ha sviluppato un quadro di conoscenza inclusiva e avviato iniziative per affrontare le nuove sfide della città contemporanea. Attraverso una serie di attività didattiche, di ricerca e di terza missione abbiamo cercato di definire degli strumenti per affrontare problematiche urbane legate ai temi dell’accessibilità urbana, dell’inclusione, della sostenibilità, della co-progettazione, della prossimità e dei processi di coinvolgimento, come l’approccio del Placemaking. Queste esperienze hanno portato alla definizione di sei concetti chiave per la progettazione degli spazi urbani: eliminazione delle barriere architettoniche; ripensamento della relazione tra edifici e città; integrazione della prossimità negli spazi quotidiani; valorizzazione della diversità e della dimensione umana; miglioramento inclusivo per tutti; adattabilità e flessibilità degli spazi. Tali concetti permettono di comprendere e gestire la complessità in evoluzione delle città, supportando progetti urbani in continua trasformazione.

A crowd simulation-based tool for environmentally hazard-conscious urban design
No full textThe paper describes research within the scientific and methodological framework of new urban planning support tools oriented towards the prevention of risks due to natural disasters. In this context, the first results of the application of a prototype of a digital (agent-based) simulation system of crowd behaviour aimed at improving urban resilience are reported. The methodological macro-phases of the research are two: 1. to realise a simulation model of crowd evacuation following a natural or man-made disaster; 2. to define a set of safety-based urban design techniques capable of reducing urban risk and optimising urban shape.The paper describes the first results of the application of the macro-phase 1, in particular the simulation of Scenario 0 in case of a seismic event related to the case study of the historic centre of the town of Atri (Abruzzo Region, IT). The simulation shows that the current configuration of the waiting areas results in long evacuation times, insufficient capacity to accommodate evacuated persons, and clogged streets. In the next steps of the research, safetybased urban design techniques will be applied to Scenario 0 with the aim of obtaining an optimised design Scenario that improves urban form, reduces risk and increases resilience.

Il paper descrive una ricerca che si inserisce nel quadro scientifico e metodologico relativo ai nuovi strumenti di supporto alla pianificazione urbana orientati alla prevenzione dei rischi dovuti ai disastri naturali. In questo contesto, vengono riportati i primi risultati dell'applicazione di un prototipo di un sistema di simulazione digitale (ad agenti) del comportamento della folla finalizzato a migliorare la resilienza urbana. Le macro-fasi metodologiche della ricerca sono due: 1. realizzare un modello di simulazione di evacuazione della folla a seguito di un disastro naturale o antropico; 2. definire un set di tecniche di progettazione urbana safety-based capaci di ridurre il rischio urbano e ottimizzare le forme urbane.Il paper descrive i primi risultati dell'applicazione della macro-fase 1, in particolare la simulazione dello Scenario 0 in caso di evento sismico relativo al caso studio del centro storico della città di Atri (Abruzzo Region, IT). La simulazione dimostra che l'attuale configurazione delle aree di attesa determina tempi lunghi di evacuazione, insufficiente capacità ad ospitare le persone evacuate, strade intasate. Nei prossimi passi della ricerca saranno applicate allo Scenario 0 le tecniche di progettazione urbana safety-based con l'obiettivo di ottenere uno Scenario di progetto ottimizzato, che migliora la forma urbana, riduce il rischio e incrementa la resilienza.

Ever since the end of the 12th century, both individuals and communities made use of public notaries, who were present in all medium-sized and small (but not very small) villages; sometimes these notaries had an eminent social role, although the available data suggests the existence of a great variety of situations.Il saggio prende in esame in modo analitico (e, per quanto possibile, quantitativo) la presenza del notariato nell’area trentina, tenendo conto in modo particolare del contesto extracittadino. Fin dalla fine del XII secolo singoli e comunità si servono infatti di notai dotati di riconoscibilità pubblica, che sono presenti in tutti i centri di medie e piccole (ma non piccolissime) dimensioni; talvolta tali notai avevano un ruolo sociale eminente, anche se i dati a disposizione fanno intuire l’esistenza di una grande varietà di situazioni
Language Use and Iconicity in the Homeric Hymn to Apollo (182–206): Meter and Poetics, Orality and Storytelling
Get PDFThe beginning of the so-called Pythian movement of the Homeric Hymn to Apollo presents a song-and-dance scene of Apollo and certain deities on Mount Olympus. Thanks to some formal and poetic features, such as ring composition, verses 182–206 consist of a narrative core which exhibits the cognitive linguistic feature of iconicity, namely the circular shape. This epic passage (HHAp 182–206) is then investigated in the frame of oral literature, comparative Indo-European poetics and formal poetic analysis. The text presents awkwardness in meter and diction, which are argued as being a precise “intent” of the poet (Werner Knobl). Nevertheless, the passage exhibits a precise composition and aims to celebrate Apollo’s kleos through his Oracle at Delphi.L’inizio della cosiddetta sezione delfica dell’Inno omerico ad Apollo illustra una scena di esecuzione corale da parte di Apollo e alcune precise divinità sul Monte Olimpo. Aspetti formali e tecniche poetiche, come la composizione ad anello, marcano i versi 182–206 come un’unità narrativa a sé stante. Nella narrazione è presente anche un elemento di iconicità, come la figura del cerchio, che è possibile analizzare attraverso la linguistica cognitiva. Infine, il passaggio epico (HHAp 182–206) viene studiato nell’ottica della letteratura orale, la poetica indoeuropea comparata e l’analisi formale della poesia. Nonostante alcune anomalie metriche e stilistiche, che vengono analizzate come una precisa “intenzione” del cantore (Werner Knobl), il brano mostra una precisa costruzione con l’obiettivo di celebrare il kleos di Apollo attraverso il suo Oracolo a Delfi
Le avventure di Pinocchio tra letteratura e moda: una breve storia del termine pinocchietto
Get PDFThe term pinocchietto, derived from Pinocchio, a famous literary character by Carlo Collodi, arouses interest firstly for its multiple meanings: ‘small pine nut’, ‘skinny and thin person, with pointed features’, ‘trousers, for men and women, which reaches the knee or just below it; knickerbockers’. In this paper, a brief overview of Collodi’s work and the illustrations that accompanied it from the beginning will be first provide. All the meanings of the term will then be investigated, with particular attention to the last meaning (not dated by the dictionaries) and the reasons that led the term to take on this meaning, in connection with the literary work, with the character of Pinocchio and his illustrations. The possible uses of the term (which can take on the value of a noun, an adjective and which can be inserted in the expression alla pinocchietto) will also be investigated, as well as its survival during the twentieth century and up to the present day. Finally, an overview of the numerous synonyms or near-synonyms of the term will close the essay, with references to their origin and their semantic peculiarities.Il termine pinocchietto, derivato da Pinocchio, celebre personaggio letterario uscito dalla penna di Carlo Collodi, suscita interesse innanzitutto per i suoi molteplici significati: ‘piccolo pinolo’, ‘persona magra e sottile, dai tratti appuntiti’, ‘pantalone, da uomo e donna, che arriva al ginocchio o appena sotto di esso’. Nel presente intervento si fornirà in primis un breve inquadramento dell’opera collodiana e delle illustrazioni che fin dall’inizio la corredarono. Saranno poi indagati tutti i significati del termine, con particolare attenzione all’ultima accezione (non datata dai dizionari) e alle motivazioni che hanno portato il termine ad assumere questo significato, in connessione con l’opera letteraria, con il personaggio di Pinocchio e le sue rappresentazioni. Verranno inoltre indagati i possibili usi del termine (che può assumere valore di sostantivo, aggettivo e che può essere inserito nella locuzione alla pinocchietto), nonché la sopravvivenza nel corso del Novecento e fino alla contemporaneità. Infine, si amplierà lo sguardo ai numerosi sinonimi o quasi sinonimi del termine, con cenni alla loro origine e alle loro peculiarità semantiche

The Shakespearean Tragedy of/for Our Times. Macbeth?
Get PDFThe article compares the diverse strategies employed by the three most recent adaptations of Macbeth, a play that appears to be the Shakespearean drama of our age judging from the number of recent adaptations. I argue that Justin Kurzel’s 2015 historical epic, Kit Monkman’s 2018 experimental production, and Joel Coen’s 2021 film entitled The Tragedy of Macbeth reflect the current shifts in the world of the cinema, as they exemplify a number of changes taking place in front of our eyes, both in terms of cinematic production and popular and critical reception. All three films use the early modern text in their dialogue, but rely on different visual and technological tools, showing how nostalgia and innovation, traditional and experimental approaches exist side by side in the contemporary mediascape.
