Examples of good experiences for child-friendly cities. Comparison of sustainable practices in Italy and around the world
No full textAn approach to urban planning that focuses on children is a crucial element for creating inclusive, resilient and competitive cities in which to live, work and grow. The image of a city that is increasingly inadequate to meet the needs of the youngest citizens emerges from the urban transformation that has characterized the last decades, oriented to the car, which endangers the safety and quality of the environment. The contribution aims to provide a scientific framework on recent policy, practice and academic research on the topic of child-friendly cities: are identified, from a review of national and international best practices, directions and solutions for achieving child-friendly cities that help counter socio-spatial inequalities and promote the well-being of this population group, in line with Goals 11 of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The comparison between the different initiatives and experiments, shows that children can be powerful agents in the design and implementation of better urban environments
Urban and transport planning integration. A case study in a mid-size city in Italy
No full textIntegrating urban and transport planning requires a well-defined approach structured across various planning and strategic levels. This emphasizes the necessity to explore the matter within the frameworks of territorial government processes. The paper aims to address the issue by examining the case of the city of Brescia, Lombardy, a mid-size city which is pioneer in Italy in the development of innovative transport systems. Brescia is equipped with a metro line and is on the final stages of in the design of the new tram line "T2 Pendolina-Fiera". The paper is developed as follow: (1) significance of the integration between urban and transport planning; (2) narration of precedents where Brescia has been at the forefront in this domain; (3) reconstruction of administrative steps that led to the design of the tram; (4) assessment of the role of the new tram line in the urban context; (5) final considerations. The research verified that it was possible for a medium size Italian city to apply the desired integrated approach, as well as the effectiveness of the local planning tool in Lombardy region (the PGT) to hold together strategic and design layers to target such goal
Coastal roads atlas. Reshaping daily infrastructures for coastline adaptation
No full textThe widespread poor quality that characterizes many cities and urbanization today is often related to the outdoor spaces. These conditions are common situations in many contexts of our country but are intensified where spatial inequality and environmental vulnerability converge. Although declined in different territories these situations have at their center the complex space of the road. The road system not only contributes significantly to climate change but is also the main victim of the consequences related to these changes. The research investigates the role of the roads and parking spaces, interpreted as the main background of our everyday lives, in facilitating socio-ecological transition of most fragile territories. Particular attention is paid to the different vulnerabilities of Italian coastline and to the ways in which adaptation measures can be implemented to mitigate risks. The initial analyses are focused on developing methods to measure and evaluate the climatic, geophysical, and socio-economic vulnerabilities of coastal roads, which are rendered, through aggregated maps of quantitative and qualitative indicators, in an "Atlas of Coastal Roads". The Atlas is conceived as an operational tool, able to guide stakeholders to develop national and place-specific interpretations
Assessment of urban green spaces proximity to develop the green infrastructure strategy. An Italian case study
No full textTo consolidate new models of sustainable growth based on the management of natural resources, the traditional spatial planning tools are being integrated with new approaches based on ecological and environmental "performance" which consider the provision of ecosystem services through the design of Green Infrastructure (GI), a possible way to improve the quality of life in the contemporary city. The paper describes a sectoral study developed on the public green spaces system at the city scale. The work is part of a research project aimed at developing strategic guidelines for Green Infrastructures at the local scale for the definition of the new Urban Green Plan of the Municipality of Falconara Marittima, located in the province of Ancona (center of Italy), selected as a case study. The study provides a method to estimate the proximity of urban green spaces based on the evaluation of their level of accessibility and usability, to maximize the provision of cultural ecosystem services in response to citizen needs. Methodologies for estimating emissions from road transport and comparison with the inventory air emissions (INEMAR). The case of Pavia Province
No full textAccording to the actual portrait of emissions (Arpa Lombardia), it is necessary to improve the quality of life and the environment, minimizing emissions into the atmosphere from this sector, implementing specific actions by society and institutions. The population, the population density and the fragmentation of urban centres influence the demand for transport which consequently influences the quantity of emissions to which the populations are exposed. This study focuses on the area of the province of Pavia, one of the most inadequate provinces in terms of air quality in Lombardy Region comparing urban settlements, road system and emissions. Considering the 2019 emission picture from INEMAR (INventory AiR EMissions - Lombardy Region), road transport is responsible for about 13% and residential buildings for about 10 % of total CO₂ equivalent emissions in the province of Pavia. In the paper authors aim to evaluate the inter-scalar relation between Province scale and Municipality scale according to the following analysis: 1) Search regression equation between “settlements” and “pollution” 2) Search regression equation between “road soil occupancy” and “pollution”. The emission data resulting from the INEMAR algorithms are compared with the land use’s geographical data present on the open-source GIS cartography and on official data (ISTAT and Lombardy Region). The result should highlight in an “emission based” analysis of land use, the opportunities of integrated mobility new systems

Get PDFThe contribution analyses the impact of Emotional Technologies (ET) on User Experience (UX) in the educational context. Emotional Technologies are technologies that take into account users' emotions and in the educational field, they can be used for designing interfaces and content that elicit positive emotions in learners (Starkey-Perret et al.: 2017). The article explores the evolution of Educational Technologies, which have become increasingly digital, interactive, and user-experience-oriented, highlighting how the application of Educational Technologies has favoured a multi-sensory approach to learning, supported cognitive plasticity, and modified the way information is processed at the cerebral level (Marzano et al.: 2015). Emotional Technologies in the educational context offer the possibility of personalizing students' learning experience by adapting content and activities to their specific needs. User Experience plays a fundamental role in this process, as the design of interfaces and content presentation can significantly influence learners' emotional responses. Only a careful analysis of the opportunities offered, with a focus on the intersection of technology and emerging educational needs, can contribute to the proper integration of new technologies in the learning processes.Il contributo analizza l’impatto delle Emotional Technologies (ET) sulla User Experience (UX) nel contesto educativo. Le Emotional Technologies sono tecnologie che tengono conto delle emozioni degli utenti e in ambito educativo possono essere impiegate per la progettazione di interfacce e contenuti che suscitano emozioni positive negli apprendenti (Starkey-Perret et al.: 2017). L’articolo esplora l’evoluzione delle Tecnologie Didattiche, divenute sempre più digitali, interattive e orientate all’esperienza dell’utente, evidenziando come l’applicazione delle TD abbia favorito un approccio multi-sensoriale all’apprendimento, abbia sostenuto la plasticità cognitiva e modificato il modo in cui le informazioni vengono elaborate a livello cerebrale (Marzano et al.: 2015). Le ET nel contesto educativo offrono la possibilità di personalizzare l’esperienza di apprendimento degli studenti, adattando i contenuti e le attività alle loro esigenze specifiche. La User Experience svolge un ruolo fondamentale in questo processo, poiché il design delle interfacce e la presentazione dei contenuti possono influenzare significativamente le risposte emotive degli apprendenti. Solo un’attenta analisi delle opportunità offerte, nell’ottica di incontro/confronto tra tecnologia e bisogni educativi emergenti, può contribuire all’efficace integrazione delle nuove tecnologie nei processi di apprendimento

Nella prima metà dell’Ottocento si riscontra un interesse particolare per la biografia di Giambattista Vico. Francesco Lomonaco con le Vite degl’eccellenti italiani contribuisce per primo all’interesse nei confronti del filosofo napoletano inteso come modello etico da seguire. Qualche anno più tardi, tra il 1820 ed il 1854, vengono pubblicati tre testi teatrali dedicati alla vita del filosofo napoletano: la Commedia Giambattista Vico di Giulio Genoino (Napoli, 1820), il Dramma Giambattista Vico del ligure Domenico Buffa (1854), e Giambattista Vico. Commedia originale italiana di Giovanni Carlo Cosenza (Napoli, 1854) andato perduto. Il saggio si sofferma sull’opera di Buffa, e sul suo contributo alla diffusione del pensiero di Vico.

Nauaghía naufragium è la partitura di un oratorio composto fra il 2020 e il 2023. Il testo rappresenta la prima parte dell’omonimo poema dell’autore pubblicato nel 2021 presso Ets (Pisa). Con questo lavoro si tenta di “mostrare” nei loro tratti tipici (tipici perché si ripetono) alcune forme di sofferenza e vessazione patite dai migranti del nostro tempo. Il titolo, espresso negli idiomi delle due antiche culture greca e latina, coniuga allusivamente il naufragio dei migranti con quello dell’Europa di fronte al fenomeno epocale delle migrazioni.Giambattista Vico by Domenico Buffa

In the first half of the Nineteenth Century there was particular interest in the biography of Giambattista Vico. Francesco Lomonaco with his Lives of the Excellent Italians was the first to contribute to the interest for the Neapolitan philosopher understood as an ethical model to follow. Few years later, between 1820 and 1854, three theatrical texts dedicated to the life of the Neapolitan philosopher were published: the Comedy Giambattista Vico by Giulio Genoino (Naples, 1820), the Drama Giambattista Vico by the Ligurian Domenico Buffa (1854), and Giambattista Vico. Original Italian comedy by Giovanni Carlo Cosenza (Naples, 1854) lost. The essay focuses on Buffa's work and his contribution to the diffusion of Vico’s thought.

Nauaghía naufragium is the score of an oratorio composed between 2020 and 2023. The text represents the first part of the author's poem of the same name published in 2021 by Ets (Pisa). With this work, an attempt is made to “show” in their typical traits (typical because they are repeated) certain forms of suffering and harassment suffered by the migrants of our time. The title, expressed in the idioms of the two ancient Greek and Latin cultures, allusively combines the shipwreck of migrants with that of Europe in the face of the epoch-making phenomenon of migration

Get PDFIl paesaggio è stato studiato componendo lo sguardo degli scienziati, attento all’ambiente naturalistico, e quello degli umanisti, che si sono occupati dello studio dalla sua fruizione estetica. C’è da chiedersi se in un pianeta in cui gli esseri umani rappresentano solo lo 0.06% della biomassa, ma riescono a modificarne il clima, non si debba piuttosto parlare di un paesaggio costruito da una co-evoluzione di esseri umani e ambiente biogeofisico: uno dei temi da ricondurre all’alveo interdisciplinare delle scienze umane ambientali.

One wonders whether, on a planet where human beings are only 0.06% of the biomass, but they could modify the climate, we should not rather speak of a landscape constructed by a co-evolution of human beings and the biogeophysical environment: one of the themes to be brought back to the interdisciplinary framework of the Environmental Humanities.

Get PDFLiterary work is a complex cultural product, a stratified device of textual and extra-textual levels, which are formal, biographical and social. The literary voice emerges in the articulation of these levels. This paper, which intends to investigate the writing and literary work of Carlos Liscano, is a journey to the origins of the author's literary voice. The aim is to clarify the ways in which his vision and his voice are expressed through formal and stylistic choices. Therefore, the analysis is based on the integration of multiple perspectives. The philological attitude of literary criticism and the ability to detect connections of sociology allow to obtain an in-depth analysis and at the same time to restore complexity. Get PDFGreen areas represent crucial elements for urban environments that promote the health and well-being of the community and the entire urban organism. An ecological approach to planning allows us to recognize the well-being of communities and urban systems as essential elements for effective planning to meet contemporary environmental and social needs. This contribution presents the results of extensive research that converge into a comprehensive laboratory work; an experimental field aimed at strengthening the transition process towards green and sustainable cities, focusing on the enhancement and implementation of natural capital within the vast territory of the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria and its Aspromonte National Park. A multidisciplinary and experimental approach in collaboration between the University and the Metropolitan City of Reggio has led to the development of a theoretical and methodological framework consisting of a related system of principles, criteria, and essential measures to facilitate the initiation of early activities in support of the institutional entities of the Reggio metropolitan area. These entities are committed to managing the funds of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan - PNRR, and their missions fully align within the same experimentation field for the valorization of the ecological structure of urban and territorial greenery in the entire area and the networking of spaces for social interaction, thus ensuring a valued healthy climate urban profil
