A Content Analysis Study of Grade-Five Science Curriculum in Single Nation Curriculum 2020 and National Curriculum 2006
The government of Pakistan’s democratic set-up of 2020 initiative to reduce disparities in the national curriculum by introducing Single Nation Curriculum 2020 (SNC) needs a line of description. Thus, the purpose of this study is to analyse the content of the fifth-grade science curriculum placed in National Curriculum 2006 and SNC. For the accomplishment of this purpose, the contents of both curricula and textbooks were reviewed to match with the following seven content areas: student learning outcomes, suggested activities, information other than textbooks, web links, assessments, and projects. It was found that there were ten chapters of the grade curriculum in SNC and eight in the previously practised National Curriculum 2006. The activities given in the new curriculum were mostly hands-on for the students and the teachers. Information other than textbooks was thought provoking and had a learning drive. At the end of each chapter, web links and projects were given to encourage the students to learn actively and use technology for global pursuits. The study offers implications for Pakistan’s curriculum developers
Effective Leadership Skills and Approaches During the Pandemic: An Action Research
The COVID-19 outbreak has blatantly exposed the drawbacks of our education systems around the globe. It is important that the possible opportunities which have to ascend in these circumstances be utilized to make the education systems more objective, inclusive, and resilient. The aim of the action research was to recognise and examine the traits of effective leadership and the strategies used during the COVID-19 pandemic at a local private O level school. The key focus was on how the school leadership has ensured to support the teachers during these challenging times. The findings of this study revealed that the school leaders adopted various approaches to cope with the emerging issues. Through this research, we can offer some noteworthy recommendations, which would be useful for researchers, academic scholars, school leadership teams, and experts in the educational context
Antecedents of Counterproductive Behaviour: A Study of Federal Semi Government Universities in Pakistan
Counter-productive behaviour is believed to be having a significant impact on organizational performance. This study aimed find how interpersonal aggression, presentism, and perceived organizational politics impact employees’ counter-productive behaviour in an organization. Using quantitative survey method, the data was collected via Google docs having 5 points likert scale from employees currently serving in the armed forces universities in the federal territory, Islamabad. Regression statistical technique was employed to test the hypothesis whether the chosen variables affected the employees’ counter-productive behaviour in the selected universities. The results showed that interpersonal aggression, presentism, and perceived organizational politics do not have impact on the counter-productive behaviour of employees in the armed forces universities. The study indicates the presence of lesser counterproductive behaviour in armed forces universities of Pakistan. Non-armed forces universities in Pakistan are recommended to adopt a unique style of management armed forces universities to liberate the counterproductive behaviour of employees
The COVID-19 Scenario in Higher Education in Pakistan: Effects and Policies
This paper has attempted to examine the impact of COVID-19 on higher education in Pakistan. The impact is viewed from the perspective of students, teachers, the institutions and their resources, and the education sector pertaining to higher education. Further to this, the actions taken in Pakistan for higher education during the pandemic have also been reviewed. The researcher used a method of qualitative inquiry to derive information pertinent to the research objectives. Participants included Vice Chancellors, faculty and students from public and private universities. The outcomes of the semi-structured interviews revealed the absence of planning on the part of the universities, the regulatory and control bodies relevant to higher education, deficient infrastructure resources, and the absence of a robust system of faculty training to teach online. The thrust of the paper lies on the policy recommendations and challenges during the pandemic, what the national action plan should include, and what should be the post pandemic strategies for Pakistan in the areas of teaching and learning, resource development, collaboration, and financial allocation. It remains to be seen how Pakistan’s higher education will emerge from the lessons learned from COVID-19
Use of We in Writing
Pronouns are few and fixed, but used frequently in language and their forms and functions have been reviewed in the past. The qualitative study theoretically underpinned by various linguistic philosophers is a teacher’s reflection about the use of English pronoun we in ninety-six extended written responses of English language learners studying two disciplines of knowledge in a public institution of higher education in Karachi. The data were collected from ninety-six participants in 2018, analyzed in 2019 and drafted in 2020. The occurrence of the royal we in the sentences of the participants was reportedly too low to connect it with exclusive-we. However, its deictic use was a frequent representation of togetherness. The study’s usefulness lies with further investigations into this linguistic behavior of the pronoun among its users
Analyzing the Relationship between Cyberbullying Victimization and Well-Being of Students at Higher Education
The purpose of this research was to map out the relationship between the level of cyberbullying experiences and the well-being of students in higher education. A correlational research design was adopted to collect data. A stratified sampling technique was adopted to select the sample of 976 university students for this research. Existing validated research tools were adopted to collect data from students. The collected data were analyzed by performing descriptive statistics, linear regression and one sample t-test. The findings suggested that cyberbullying experiences affect the well-being of university students. As to see the gender differences, both male and female students have different level of cyberbullying victimization. To measure the difference in view of locality of the students, t-test results showed no difference in urban and rural students experiencing cyberbullying. All the findings are in line with available research. The limitations were stressed and future directions were also made to prevent cyberbullying at campuses to develop a healthy and productive study environment.  
Shaping Behaviour as Proactive Approach for Awareness of Safety and Wellbeing: Secondary Grade Curriculum
The Shyness, reluctance, hesitation, and unawareness hamper to react in a safe way and may cause causalities. Usually children between the age of 13 to 15 get involved in road accidents due to carelessness. Safety awareness reduces the chances of accidents and injury happenings. A sample of 200 students and 99 teachers from secondary level public schools was taken. In order to develop awareness among secondary school students, action oriented SW instructional methods through hands-on-activities, experiential learning, labs, weather safety precaution, fire, electricity safety, and ways to motivate students to protect themselves and conserve their wellbeing were used. By using valid and reliable survey questionnaire and observation protocol, perceptions about SW were assessed after interventions and prominent awareness and behavioural changes were declared such as reduced number of accidents and injuries. The results are useful for the school administration and teachers to reflect on the inclusion of safety and wellbeing activities
Evaluating International Financial Reporting Standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in a Local Context: A Case from Pakistan
International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the local Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) are designed to ensure that financial information and financial reports presented to consumers are credible and comparable. The significance and implementation of the reporting rules in Pakistan are examined in this study, as well as how conflict situations affect this issue. Pakistan has a growing economy it is therefore, critical to ensure that the reporting requirements meet international standards, so that parent firms investing here do not have any reporting issues.To conduct this study, qualitative research paradigm was selected and purposive sampling was used. In-depth individual interviews were conducted with five participants: three male and two females between the ages of 45-50, working at upper management level. The interview protocol was self-developed by taking into consideration the objectives, research questions, and literature review. The main findings indicate that IFRS should be adopted for the best possible results, although it is difficult to achieve a 100% adoption due to the prevailing conflicts. Hence, a uniform and formal procedure to adopt in conflicting situations should be communicated. The findings will be beneficial for researchers and auditing firms
Why Professional Development Matters: A Case of College Teachers in Karachi
The predominant teachers’ professional development practice in Pakistan can be stated as limited, fragmented, short termed, and pre-packaged as it occurs on margins of having more focus on training sessions rather than problem-solving. This qualitative research aims to share the results of a small-scale study, involving 12 college teachers working in public sector institutions on their perceptions of professional development and the support they get from their educational institutions. It then proposes a three-branched solution that includes: (a) government and institution supported PD; (b) availability and delivery of multiple PD approaches based on the needs assessment of the teachers; and (c) on-going follow-up and evaluation of teachers’ professional development system to suit the local context. This study recommends that effective PD, if considered wisely, can become the process through which educators can examine thoughtfully and critically the purpose, role, structure, and organization of the institutions concerning the increasingly diverse students and communities they serve. The educational field in Pakistan needs a new ethics for PD; one that is sincerely supported and reflected in the educational policies of the country
Measuring University Students’ Satisfaction Level on their Courses Experiences
The objective of this study is to determine how satisfied students are with the course experiences provided by the learning facilities in Pakistani universities. This study looks into the factors of what they think is important for their learning environment, because students are the key stakeholders of the learning and education system. On the other hand, the missionary objectives of any university is to provide quality education and produce better alumni, because students’ achievements not only contribute to their scholastic development, but also build the reputation of an institution. Therefore, to measure the students’ satisfaction level of their course experiences, a self-structured survey questionnaire was used to collect the required data from students of different departments. A number of 141 master’s level students were identified from a local university. The data illustrated that the students’ satisfaction level in the provision of courses was low on given choices, like motivational characteristics, ICT application, and life-long learning skills; moderately satisfied for development of analytical and reflective thinking skills; and high level of satisfaction on all these elements except choices that have been reported of low importance
