    Effect of the Addition Tilapia Skin Collagen Concentration to Lotion Characteristics

    The purpose of this research was to determine the best concentration of the tilapia skin collagen addition to obtain the characteristics of the lotion in accordance with the established standards. The research was carried out at the Fishery Product Processing Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Padjadjaran University, Central Laboratory of Padjadjaran University and Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Laboratory of Padjadjaran University between March 2021 - June 2021. The method used in this research was experimental with a completely randomized design consisted of 5 treatments with 4 replications added the concentration of the tilapia skin collagen (0%, 4%, 5%, 6% and 7%) based on lotion formulations. Parameters observed included pH, viscosity, spreadability, weight loss, homogeneity and the organoleptic (appearance, color, scent, texture). The conclusion from this research was that the addition of 7% the tilapia skin collagen concentration was the best treatment with a homogeneous appearance, a slightly yellowish white color, a slightly lavender scent and a slightly thick texture. The lotion had pH value of 6.35, viscosity of 7,197 cP, 5.74 cm spreadability and a weight loss of 2.8%

    Strategy for the Development of Seaweed Cultivation in Karawang Regency, West Java Province

    Seaweed is one of the leading commodities in the marine sector which has a high selling value. However, this potential is currently not optimally utilized in Karawang Regency. Karawang Regency has a large enough potential for aquaculture ponds, has a pond area of 18,273.30 hectares, and only 1% is cultivated for seaweed. This research aims to formulate a seaweed cultivation business development strategy that has not developed optimally. The respondents in this research were all 60 seaweed cultivators in Karawang Regency. The data used were primary and secondary data. Primary data were obtained through an interview with seaweed cultivators and using the questionnaire. Secondary data were obtained from institutions/agencies related to research, such as the Karawang Regency Fisheries Service The data analysis method used in this research is qualitative analysis. Qualitative analysis was used to determine a seaweed cultivation development strategy using a SWOT analysis. The results showed that the relative position of seaweed cultivation development based on the SWOT analysis is in the first quadrant which means the strategy used is a progressive or aggressive. The progressive strategy of developing seaweed cultivation can be carried out with strategies such as increasing production to meet the demand for seaweed, expanding the area for seaweed cultivation, empowering local communities about seaweed cultivation and diversifying processed seaweed products

    Comparison of Length and Weight Characteristics of O. niloticus and O. aureus from Garmat Ali River, Iraq

    Cichlid species invaded the Iraqi waters in the mid-2000s and are now dominant fish species. The present study was carried out to investigate the age and growth of two cichlid species, Oreochromis niloticus and O. aureus in Garmat Ali River, Iraq from October 2019 to September 2020. A total of 2707 specimens of O. niloticus ranging from 7.0 to 25.5 cm and 1664 of O. aureus varying from 7.0 to 26.3 cm were examined which were captured by various fishing gears. The length-frequency distributions revealed that fish lengths (13.0-18.0 cm) formed 64.1% of the total catch of O. niloticus and 67.2% of O. aureus. The length-weight relationships were W=0.012*L3.109 for O. niloticusand W=0.015*L3.075 for O. aureus, and both species indicated positive allometric growth. The highest values of the relative condition factor were obtained during spring and the values decrease when length of two species increase. Seven age groups were determined for O. niloticus: 9.9, 12.9, 15.6, 17.9, 19.4, 20.4 and 22.2 cm, and for O. aureus: 9.3, 12.5, 15.2, 18.0, 19.4, 21.3 and 22.2 cm. The theoretical maximum length (L∞) was 29.2 cm for O. niloticus and 28.6 cmfor O. aureus. These results can assist in fisheries management and conservation of the fish species in Iraqi waters

    Antimicrobial Potential of Sonneratia alba and Sonneratia caseolaris against Shrimp Pathogens

    Disease is one of the obstacles in shrimp farming. Many countries have experienced economic losses due to disease in shrimp caused by microbes. Many strategies are being used to overcome the problem such as antibiotics, formalin, probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, and others. However, the use antibiotics in long term can cause negative effects. So that, the development of potential new natural compounds is required to overcome this problem. This review article aims to explain the nutritional content, bioactive compounds, antimicrobial potential, and the effect of S. alba and S. caseolaris on shrimp survival. Sonneratia alba and Sonneratia caseolaris are plants that have many bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, and phenolics. They have also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Vibrio harveyi, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Saprolegnia sp., and others. Application of S. alba and S. caseolaris can also increase the survival rate of infected shrimps. S. alba and S. caseolaris have the potential to be used as antimicrobial agents and can be used to protect shrimp from microbial pathogens

    Aspects of Stock Assessment of Klunzinger\u27s Mullet, Planiliza klunzengeri (Day, 1888) from Northwest Arabian Gulf, Iraq

    The stock assessment of Klunzinger\u27s mullet, Planiliza klunzengeri was conducted, to estimate its some aspects viz. growth, mortality, recruitment, yield-per-recruit and virtual population analysis in Iraqi marine waters, northwest Arabian Gulf, Iraq, from February 2020 and January 2021. The population parameters were analyzed by the FiSAT software using monthly length-frequency data collected by the Shaheen dhow and from the artisanal fishermen at the fish landing site in Al-Fao city to derive information required for their management. A total of 3319 individuals of P. klunzingeri ranged from 11.0 to 27.0 cm have been collected. Length-weight relationship was calculated as W= 0.026L2.716. The asymptotic length (L∞), growth rate (K) and the growth performance index (Ø\u27) were 29.8 cm, 0.34 and 2.48, respectively. The rates of annual instantaneous of total mortality (Z), fishing mortality (F), natural mortality (M) and present exploitation (Epresent) were 1.19, 0.84, 0.36 and 0.30, respectively. The recruitment pattern of P. klunzingeri was continuous throughout the year, with one peak during May. The results of virtual population analysis revealed that the majority of P. klunzingeri were harvested between 14 cm and 19 cm. The length at first capture (L50) in the current study was higher than the length at first maturity (Lm) of the species in the region. The Epresent was below the biological target reference points (E0.1= 0.770 and Emax= 0.903), referred to the stock of P. klunzingeri is underexploited. Therefore, the harvest level should increase to its maximum sustainable yield level by increasing fishing effort level with monitoring surveys and evaluate the risk associated with fishing effort increases as fishing precautionary approaches

    Composition of Volatile Flavor Compound on Fresh Asian Redtail Catfish

    The purpose of this research was to identify the composition of volatile flavor compound of asian redtail catfish (Hemibagrus nemurus). The method of this research was experimental method of fresh sample. The extraction sample method in this research was Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) and used Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) to detect the compound on the sample. The volatile flavor compound were successfully detected with total 23 compounds on fresh sample and mostly the compounds were derived from hydrocarbons, aldehyde, alcohols, ketones, ester, and others. The highest proportion that detected was hexanal compound (26,78%) The proximate analysis was also identified. The result of proximate analysis on fresh sample were water content (79,21%), ash (1,09%), protein (17,21%), and fat (2,17%

    Evaluating Primary Productivity Based on Chlorophyll-a in Ciburuy Lake, West Java Indonesia

    Ciburuy Lake is the one of many natural lakes in Padalarang, West Java. Padalarang is industries area and pruduce huge waste water to contamination Ciburuy Lake. Ciburuy Lake area has many functions such as tourism, settlement, agriculture and industry. This study aim to evaluate velue of primary productivity based on chlrophyill-a. Chlorophyll-a is one of the indicator to creat management plan of water resources in Ciburuy Lake. This research was conducted from January to March 2021. Sampling carried out in 4 station with deferent water situation. This research used chlorophyll-a concentration measurment method to determine primary productivity. Result obtained in terms of water quality are: temperature  range of 24 - 28 oC; depth water range of 151,83 – 190,83 cm; Transparation range of 22,83 – 27,67 cm; pH range of 5,94 – 8,00; CO2 range of 6,98 – 33,52 mg/L; BOD range of 7,84 – 12,14 mg/L; nitrate range of 0,235 – 0,312 mg/L; fosfate range of 0,142 --0,156 mg/L, and chlorophyll-a concentration range of 0.024 - 0.065 mg/L . This research showed that Ciburuy Lake has water condition eutrophic to hypertrophic because primary productivity in Ciburuy Lake has middle to high condition based on chlorophyll-a concentration

    Analysis of the Competitiveness of Ponds Aquaculture in West Java Province

    The level of competitiveness is one of the parameters in the concept of sustainability. The fisheries sector has a strategic role in national development, one of which is aquaculture. Ponds aquaculture is the most widespread in the province of West Java. So that fishery production in West Java is mostly dominated by production from ponds and has the opportunity to be developed when viewed from the productivity achieved at this time which is already quite high. The purpose of this study is to analyze the competitiveness profile of ponds aquaculture in the regency/city of West Java Province. The study was conducted in November 2020 – June 2021. The method used was a literature survey to determine the competitiveness of aquaculture in ponds in West Java Province. The data obtained in the form of primary data and secondary data were analyzed descriptively. Primary data in the form of expert opinions. Secondary data is in the form of aquaculture statistical data in ponds with the main indicators, namely human resources, facilities, facilities and infrastructure, production, and Science and Technology with time series data from 2004 – 2019 Department of Marine and Fisheries of West Java Province. The results showed that the competitiveness profile of aquaculture in ponds in 2019 in West Java Province with the first rank of very high competitiveness was occupied by Ciamis Regency because it was superior in human resources, facilities and infrastructure, and production, the second rank of high competitiveness is occupied by Bogor Regency because it was superior in production, the third rank of high competitiveness is occupied by Indramayu Regency because it was superior in production and the application of science and technology

    Abundance and Diversity of Snails in Relation to Physicochemical Parameters along Kwadom Stream, Gombe State, Nigeria

    Aims: The aim of the study is to investigate the abundance and diversity of snails along Kwadom stream, Gombe state, Nigeria. Study Design:  Snails were collected using a benthic scoop net with mesh size of 0.2 mm and hand picking from three sampling stations (home, farmlands, and fishponds sites) along Kwadom stream; between 6:30 am to 11:00 am weekly. In addition, physicochemical parameters (temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, alkalinity, water depth and pH) were measured fortnightly to determine their effect on the diversity of snail species. Place and Duration of Study: The study was conducted along Kwadom stream in Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State, Nigeria from March to July 2021. Methodology: Snails were collected from each of the three stations and identified to species level using hand lens and taxonomy keys. Water physicochemical parameters: temperature, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, alkalinity, water depth and pH were measured using standard method. General linear models (GLM) were used to compare the abundance and diversity of the snails across the sampling station, as well as the effect of physicochemical parameters on the diversity of snails. Results: 160 individual snails were recorded from 11 species, including Biomphalaria pfeifferi– the intermediate host of Schistosoma mansoni. The result showed there was a significant difference in the abundance of snails (p<0.01) across the three study sites – home site 68 (42.5%), farmlands site 56 (35%) and fishpond site 36 (22.5%). The home site had a higher diversity of snail species (p<0.01) relative to the farmlands and fishponds sites. Temperature, conductivity, and alkalinity had a significant effect on the diversity of snails. Conclusion: Overall, Kwadom stream harbors many individual snail species, suggesting the need for educating the public on the mode of transmission of diseases that are caused by these snails

    Macrozoobenthos Community Structure in Situ Cileunca, Pangalengan District, Bandung Regency, West Java

    This research aims to determine the structure of the macrozoobenthos community which includes variety, diversity, uniformity, coefficient of similarity and the Family Biotic Index (FBI) macrozoobenthos as well as the physical and chemical parameters of the waters and to determine the pollution status of Situ Cileunca waters. The research was conducted in Situ Cileunca, Bandung Regency, West Java from January to February 2021. The research method used a survey method. The method used in data collection is purposive sampling by determining 5 stations and 4 times. Data analysis in this research uses descriptive analysis. The results showed that the lowest average Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5) value was found at station 4 of 8.90 ±4.92 mg/L and the highest average BOD5 value was found at station 5 of 12.99 ± 6.60 mg/L. There are three species of macrozoobenthos that live in the waters of Situ Cileunca, namely Pomacea canaliculata, Filopaludina javanica and Anodonta woodiana. Macrozoobenthos abundance ranges from 400 - 704 ind/m2. The diversity index of macrozoobenthos is included in the low category, ranging from 0.17 to 0.28. The uniformity value ranged from 0.36 - 0.59 which was classified as moderate in all including except at station 4 which was classified as low. The lowest average similarity coefficient was found between stations 3 and 5 was 0.13 and the highest average similarity coefficient between stations 4 and 5 was 0.30. The index value of the FBI macrozoobenthos ranged from 6.05 to 6.18 with a rather poor category. The pollution status of  Situ Cileunca is moderately polluted because the BOD5 value is categorized as moderately polluted, the diversity (H\u27) is classified as heavily polluted and the FBI value is in the rather poor category
