Assessment of Government Financing through Commercial Banks on Seaweed Production in Zanzibar
This study of Assessment of Government Financing through Commercial Banks on Seaweed Production in Zanzibar. The study aim to help seaweed producers as well as Blue Economy by proving different Financing through Commercial Banks. Using questionnaire for collecting primary data. The study applied quantitative data analysis. Quantitative method was in the form of descriptive statistics using frequency distribution. The finding of the study showed that the finance provided by the Government through Commercial Banks to seaweed producers in Zanzibar such as loan, hire purchase, however many of the respondent were not benefiting from the finance, and only few of them were receiving loan as a financing. The finding shows that those receiving the Finance from Commercial Banks most of them received loan, and on the impact of the finance they receive was of no interest and can be used to buy input and output material such as rope, seeds, tools and equipment, branding material and packaging materials. However the finding of the study shows that the condition required by the Commercial Banks for the seaweed producers was to be in cluster rather that individual and number of years in seaweed industry, income generated per month, quantity of production. Also on the finance control that are provided by Commercial Banks education was given. The finding of this study shows that many seaweed producers are not benefiting with the Government Finance through Commercial Banks despite the follow up the made, and others are not aware of the services if they are available
Biometric Characteristics and Condition Factors of Clarias gariepinus and Hepsetus odoe from Three Major Reservoirs of Ekiti- state, Southwest Nigeria
The study was carried out between July to October 2018. 50 Clarias gariepinus from Ero, Egbe and Ado-Ekiti reservoirs and 66 Hepsetus odoe from Egbe and Ado-Ekiti reservoirs (not present in Ero- reservoir), Ekiti-State, Southwest, Nigeria, respectively. The fish samples were collected directly from fishermen at the bank of each reservoir. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used. The mean body weight and total length of Clarias gariepinus were 319.13± 152.18a, 379.60 ± 268.40b, 542.11 ± 159.38c and 35.76 ± 7.64a, 34.67 ± 9.55a and 42.47 ± 4.02b from Ero, Egbe and Ado respectively. The mean body weight and total length of Hepsetus odoe were 193.79±83.80a, 192.87±80.62a and 28.56±3.13a, 28.81±6.09a from Egbe and Ado respectively. The results recorded on the mean body weights and total lengths of C. gariepinus and H. odoe from the populations are statistically similar. There are morphologically similarities between and among the three populations. Principal component analyses and cluster analyses were further used to determine the closeness of the morphological characters using paleontological statistics (PAST) software. The condition factors (K) values for C. gariepinus are 0.7 ± 0.2, 0.9 ± 0.3 and 0.7 ± 0.2 from Ero, Egbe and Ado reservoirs respectively. The condition factors values are not significantly different from one another. And for H. odoe were 0.008 ± 0.002 and 0.74 ± 0.04 from Egbe and Ado respectively. It showed that the populations are not well fed. There is need to determine the condition factor(s) which favours the growth and development of the fish from Ado (Ureje), Egbe and Ero reservoirs
Age and Growth Estimations of Decapterus Kurroides Using Otolith in the Waters of Eastern Taiwan
Aims: Redtail scad (Decapterus kurroides Bleeker, 1855) was once an economically important Carangidae species in Taiwan. This study determined age using otolith increments and re-evaluated the parameters of growth equations for this species.
Place and Duration of Study: Fish samples were collected monthly off the coast of Taitung, eastern Taiwan.
Methodology: A total of 367 specimens were observed in this study. To determine fish age, otolith age determination method was used. The largest and smallest otolith rings were seven and two, and their corresponding means of fork length (FL) were 29.2 and 12.2 cm, respectively.
Results: Most samples had six otolith rings with a mean FL of 27.2 cm. The von Bertalanffy growth equation is FLt = 30.44 (1 – e −0.52 (t - 1.50)) for females and FLt = 32.45 (1 – e −0.39 (t – 1.18)) for males. The otolith opaque zone annually formed from September to October. The relationship of body weight (BW) and Fork Length (FL) differed significantly between genders: BW = 0.334 × 10-2 FL3.463 for females and BW = 0.469 × 10-2 FL3.349 for males. The sex ratio was 0.56 over a whole year and varied among the age groups.
Conclusion: This study using the otolith method revises the estimations of age and growth parameters for the D. kurroides, which would be beneficial to manage and recover this species stock in the waters of Taiwan
The Factors Affecting the Fishermen’s Income: A Case Study of Cikidang Fish Landing Port of Indonesia’
This Research aims to analyze the factors that affect the income of fishermen at the Cikidang Fish Landing Port, Babakan Village, Pangandaran District, Pangandaran Regency, West Java Province. This research was conducted from May to September 2021 by using the accidental sampling research method. The respondents in this research were fishermen at the Cikidang fish landing port as many as 77 fishermen. The data collected are primary data and secondary data. Analysis of the data in this study multiple linear regression. The results showed that all variables, namely, X1 (Experience), X2 (Length of Time at sea), X3 (Age), X4 (Education), and X5 (Type of Fishing Equipment) together had a significant influence on Y (fisherman\u27s income)/trip with a percentage of effect of 64.5%. While the remaining 32.5% is influenced by other factors not observed in this study. The factors that significantly influence the income of fishermen at PPI Cikidang, Babakan Village, Pangandaran District, Pangandaran Regency are X2 (Long Time at sea) and X3 (Age) of fishermen, and X5 (Type of Fishing Equipment) with a significant p-value (sig) <0.05 (alpha 5%)
Comparison of Exchange Rates of Tourism Small Enterprises and Traditional Fishermen in Pangandaran District, Indonesia
The fishery is an agricultural sector with abundant natural resources and a high production value, but this does not make traditional fishers and tourism business actors prosperous. This study aims to calculate the exchange rate of tourism businesses and traditional fishers in the Pangandaran District and the factors that influence it. This study uses a comparative descriptive method located in Pangandaran District by using the accidental sampling method. The data used are primary and secondary data, with a total number of 60 respondents for two professions with interview techniques. For analysis using the Exchange Rate formula and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis. This study indicates that the average exchange rate for traditional fishers is 0.99, while the average exchange rate for tourism businesses is 1.05. The exchange rate belonging to traditional fishers is below 1, which means they are not sufficiently able to meet their household needs and can be said to be less prosperous. Meanwhile, the exchange rate owned by tourism business actors is at number 1, which means they are pretty profitable and quite able to meet their household needs. The factors that influence it are income from fisheries or business products (X1), total of family member (X2), workload as fishermen or business actors (X3), and work experience (X4)
The Use of Pottasium Diformate in Feed to Improve Immunity Performance of Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio, L)
This research aims to determine the optimum potassium diformate (KDF) dosage which was added to commercial feed to increase the immune performance of common carp fingerlings (Cyprinus carpio L). This study was conducted from October – December, 2021 at the Laboratory of Aquaculture and Molecular Biotechnology of The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran. The method used in this research was experimental in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments are A (without KDF as control), B (0.2% KDF), C (0.3% KDF), D (0.4% KDF) and E (0.5% KDF). The observed parameters are total leukocyte count, total erythrocyte count, and gross clinical symptoms. Observations were made for 35 days after KDF administration and then challenged by Aeromonas hydrophila for 14 days. Total leukocyte count and total erythrocyte count were analyzed using ANOVA and DMRT at a 95% confidence level, while the gross clinical symptoms was analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the of 0.3% KDF was the most effective dose to increase the immune performance of common carp, the result showed that the total leukocyte count, and total erythrocyte count had the highest increase of 22,95% and 20,55%. In addition, the process of recovering is faster than other treatments it can be shown by the symptoms healing time and number of total leukocyte count and total erythrocyte count are approaching normal condition, with a value of 8,38 × 104 cells/mm3, and 1,46 × 106 cells/mm3
Re-evaluation Survey of Fish Composition, Abundance and Distribution in Agbokim Waterfalls, Nigeria
Alterations in the diversity of the ichthyofauna of a tropical waterfalls system can be affected by unsustainable utilisation of the fisheries resources, anthropogenic activities, runoff from faulty agricultural practices and environmental perturbation. To re-establish the status of the fish composition and diversity of Agbokim Waterfalls, monthly fish samples obtained from the fishery and physico-chemical properties were investigated in rainy and dry seasons, for six months along the length of the three reaches of the waterfalls. The results revealed a total of 833 fish specimens representing 18 species belonging to 15 genera from 9 families which is in deficit of four fish species, in the previous study which are Alestes nurse (Characidae), Aphyosemion gardneri (Cyprinodontidae), Pelmatochromis guntheri and Hemichromis fasciatus (Cichlidae). Cichlidae, Clariidae and Bagridae were the most abundant families accounting for 54.4% of the total catch with Cichlidae (23.17%) as the most dominant family and Mockokidae (1.68%) as the least with Tilapia zillii (15.4%), Clarias gariepinus (10.9% ) and Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus (9.5%) as the most dominant species accounting for 35.8% and Synodontis clarias (1.7%) with the least abundance. Fish species distribution in the downstream reach was dominant with 15 taxa and 607 (72.9%) individuals and in the midstream reach with 11 taxa but least (12.6%) number of individuals. Shannon Wiener diversity index for the six months was 2.7101 with Evenness value of 0.9376. The Richness index of Margalef’s was 2.5279 and Menhinick’s 0.6237. Seasonal variations in physico-chemical properties showed that, dissolved oxygen and conductivity were significantly (P< 0.05) higher in the raining season while pH showed no significant difference (P > 0.05). Temperature was significantly higher (p < 0.05) in the dry season than in the raining season. The hydrological properties showed a significantly higher mean values of rainfall (364.67± 0.00 mm) in the rainy and transparency (45.55± 1.58) in the dry season at (P < 0.05). In order to determine the cause of decline in fish species composition and abundance, further research on the heavy metals profile of the waterfalls is suggested
The Effect of Giving Various Natural Sources of ß-Carotene to Increased Color Intensity on the Oranda Goldfish (Carassius auratus)
This research aims to examine the effect of adding various sources of natural ß-Carotene obtained from sweet potato flour, carrot flour and pumpkin flour to the color brightness of Goldfish. The research was carried out from December 2021 to February 2022 at the Aquatic Animal Physiology Laboratory Building 2, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Padjadjaran University. The experimental design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications. The treatments were negative control (A), positive control (B), 10% sweet potato flour (C), 10% carrot flour (D) and 10% pumpkin flour (E). Maintenance with treatment on the test fish was carried out for 60 days. Parameters observed included color brightness observed using Toca Color Finder (TCF), growth, life, and air quality (Temperature, pH, Dissolved Oxygen). The results showed that the addition of various sources of natural carotene in the feed had an effect on increasing the brightness of the color of the Oranda Goldfish (Carasius auratus). The highest value of increasing fish color brightness was found in treatment E with pumpkin flour as a natural source of ß-Carotene, namely 3.2 in the head, 3.3 in the body and 2.5 in the tail. Survival rate in this study is 100%. The water quality parameter values are in good condition for the growth and survival rate of goldfish. Based on observations of water quality the results of temperature ranged from 24.2°C - 28°C, pH ranged from 6.88-7.62 and Dissolved Oxygen ranged from 5.8-8.0 mg/L
Zooplankton Diversity of Sevsak Stream (Elazıg-TURKIYE)
The zooplankton and its seasonal distribution of Sevsak Stream has been investigated in 2021. A total of 31 zooplankton species have been recorded in the stream. Among the zooplankton, 19 species belong to Rotifer,9 species to Cladocera and 3 species to Copepoda. In every season, zooplankton species were recorded in various abundance. Highest number of taxa was recorded in spring. In this season also, an increase occurred in the individual numbers of species. Keratella cochlearis, Polyarthra dolichoptera and Cyclops vicinus were the most recorded species in the stream. As in the other aquatic habitat, rotifera group was determined as the most recorded species in terms of taxa and number of individuals
Non-carcinogenic and Carcinogenic Health Risk Evaluation from Fish Contaminated with Heavy Metals
The pollution of water bodies with heavy metals can result into the possible contamination of freshwater fish. The levels of the heavy metals Pb, Fe, Cu, Zn, Ni and Cd were investigated in fish samples (Ameiurus nebulosus, Pylidictis olivaris, Tilapia zilli, Clarias gariepinus) collected from Kwanar-Are dam located at Rimi local government area Katsina State, Nigeria and the health risks of the evaluated heavy metals were estimated. The mean concentration ranges of Pb, Fe, Cu, Zn and Cd were (0.0851-0.4919, 0.3095-0.5039, 0.0366-0.0589, 0.1066-0.3015, 0.1048-0.1417, 0.0128-0.0686 mg/kg) respectively. The risk assessment for non-carcinogenic exposure effect showed that there was no health risk associated with these elements through consumption of the fish samples to the consumer population. However the risk assessment for carcinogenic exposure effect has revealed that the incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) and the cumulative lifetime cancer risks (∑ILCR) were all above the safe limit for cancer in the children and the adults population for all the fish samples evaluated. The heavy metal Ni presented the greatest cancer risk and the fish sample Clarias gariepinus having the highest cancer risk. There is a degree of concern for consumption of the fish samples for their potentials to contribute to the population cancer risk load
