This portal features an extensive selection of links to standards-based resources for teachers or students. The resources conform to the National Science Education Standards (NSES) (1996, National Academy of Sciences) framework and are grouped into disciplines of science and grade levels (K-4, 5-8, and 9-12). Educational levels: Primary elementary, Intermediate elementary, Middle school, High school

    Understanding Marine Customers

    No full text
This webcast introduces the different marine forecast customers and discusses what forecast information they need to know and why they need to know it. A better understanding of the needs of the marine forecast customer will lead to better daily forecasts. Educational levels: Graduate or professional

MY NASA DATA: Snow Cover by Latitude

    No full text
This lesson is designed to help students gain knowledge in using the MY NASA DATA Live Access Server (LAS) to specify and download a microset of data, then to use the data to create graphs comparing the amount (percentage) of snow cover along selected latitudes. Students will make graphs from the data microset, then use the graphs to investigate the percentage of snow cover by latitude. The lesson provides detailed procedure, related links and sample graphs, follow-up questions and extensions, and Teacher Notes. Educational levels: Middle school

MY NASA DATA Contributed Lesson 10: Linkages between Surface Temperature and Tropospheric Ozone

    No full text
This lesson is designed to help students gain knowledge in using the MY NASA DATA Live Access Server (LAS) to obtain a microset of data, using Excel to graph the data, then using the graphs to investigate the relationship between surface temperature and tropospheric ozone. Students will also analyze changes in tropospheric ozone and then hypothesize about the consequences of these changes. The measurements are taken over Chattanooga, TN. Students are provided content-related activities to enhance background knowledge, and then are provided detailed instructions on how to download data from the MY NASA DATA Live Access Server (LAS) and to use a spreadsheet program to graph the data. The lesson provides detailed procedure, related links and sample graphs, follow-up questions and extensions, and Teacher Notes. Educational levels: High school

MY NASA DATA: Trouble in the Troposphere- A Lesson on Tropospheric Ozone

    No full text
This lesson is designed to help students gain knowledge in using the MY NASA DATA Live Access Server (LAS) to specify and download a microset of data, then to use the data to investigate tropospheric ozone for several U.S. cities. Using the LAS, student-groups will create line-plots of tropospheric ozone for a particular date and city. From that information they will investigate possible trends in ozone and compare their findings to information found on the EPA Air Quality Index website. The lesson provides detailed procedure, related links and sample graphs, follow-up questions and extensions, and Teacher Notes. Educational levels: Middle school

MY NASA DATA: Seasonal Cloud Cover Variations

    No full text
This lesson is designed to help students gain knowledge in using the MY NASA DATA Live Access Server (LAS) to specify and download a microset of data, then to use the data to determine the seasonal cloud coverage and the occurrence of different cloud types, by percent, in North Carolina (or their local area). Students will identify different cloud types and determine their seasonality. They will graph the data and explore whether there is a correlation between season, cloud cover and type of cloud most prevalent during each season. The lesson provides detailed procedure, related links and sample graphs, follow-up questions and extensions, and Teacher Notes. Educational levels: High school
