Elementary GLOBE: Soil Treasure Hunt
A learning activity for the Scoop on Soils book in the Elementary GLOBE Series. Students will make predictions about what they think they will find in a sample of soil. They will investigate the sample and sort out the various items they find. Next they will spend time outside observing one or more sites to see what they find in the soil. After recording and sharing their observations they will create their own stories about the things they found in the soil. The purpose of the activity is to learn about natural things commonly found in soil and how these things impact how the soil looks and feels as well as to introduce students to the concept of decomposition. After completing this activity, students will know about various things found in soil including rocks, critters, roots, and other organic material. They will also understand that animals and microorganisms aid in the decomposition process that contributes organic materials to soils. Educational levels: Primary elementary, Intermediate elementary

This PowerPoint is a resource for museum educators that highlights the major mission information and science background for the Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX) Mission, a Small Explorer Earth-orbiting spacecraft that is designed to map the distant boundary between the solar wind from our Sun and the interstellar medium. This PowerPoint supports a full-length planetarium show about the IBEX mission and the boundary of the Solar System. Each short activity/product helps to build awareness and engagement in the science and engineering aspects of the mission that is reinforced as visitors choose to participate in more activities, including viewing the Show and mission Web site.

UIUC DAS Google Earth Weather Bundle
This Google Earth package gives the user a suite of automatically updating weather products that can be overlaid in any fashion they desire, as well as the ability to "fly" through the data in any manner. As an example, one can overlay automatically updating severe weather warnings on animated radar data as if they worked at the local weather service station and zoom in on their house to see if they are included within the warning area or how close the storms may be to their home. Although this weather bundle is meant for current and forecast data, some significant historical data is included like hurricane tracks from the Atlantic Basin from 1851-2007, imagery from Hurricane Katrina's landfall, satellite views of the Great Mississippi River Flood of 1993, or sea-surface temperature anomalies from the 1997-1998 El Nino. For users interested in Global Climate Change, there is historical temperature data for all locations on Earth that keep records from surface stations. Observing With NASA
With this resource, users can control the ground-based MicroObservatory telescopes from their computer and download their images themselves, with no human intervention in the loop. Users can access the Observing With NASA "Control Telescope" web interface at anytime. The telescopes are weatherproof and do not require a dome for protection, and the "Control Telescope" software automatically lets users know which targets are up that night. Even first-time observers can control the instrument without dependence on a telescope operator or other outside "experts." Educational levels: Informal education
