Reflective practices for veterinary nurses
Reflective practice is a skill that is currently underutilised in the veterinary industry. Teaching reflectiveness to our veterinary nurses and educators is part of looking at how we can improve mental wellbeing and create sustainability in our industry. Reflective models from Schon (1983) and Gibbs (1998) were adapted and utilised depending on where and how the reflecting was undertaken. I surveyed educators and veterinary nurses about their views on reflective practices and how they were used in the classroom and vet clinics. Additionally, how they practiced reflectiveness personally and within their work teams. I employed surveys and questionnaires as part of a grounded theory approach (Glaser & Strauss, 1967). My findings showed a wide range of understanding of reflectiveness and how it can be used. It also indicated that our educators range from those who practice reflectiveness to those who are unsure of what it means. We need to teach our educators this skill before introducing it to our students. Educators who become familiar with reflectiveness can teach this to students using adapted reflective models and, by using journals or diaries, can guide them through the steps of reflection. By teaching our students reflective practices, graduates can take these techniques into the industry and use them effectively to overcome stress and compassion fatigue. The conclusions from my research have shown that there are two different types of reflective practice. Firstly, we seek to teach our students reflective writing to an academic level and aim to see a learning progression throughout their studies. Secondly, reflective practices in the veterinary industry promote a sustainable work/life balance and may include such activities as exercise, arts, and contact with family and friends. Recommendations include using reflective models designed for our students and using reflective journals as a formative task allowing feedback to be provided in preparation for summative assessments. Finally, to use reflective practices within our vet nursing school to enable educators to become comfortable teaching this to our learners so they can take this learning out into veterinary practice
Uso 4 Life
Culture and identity among New Zealand’s Pacific diaspora are highly complex and multifaceted contemporary discussions. Through post-colonial theoretical standpoints and creative outputs, many Pacific artists have sought to explore and express these complex discussions in order to further understand themselves in a post-colonial setting. Having mixed-heritage ancestry can further this complexity, adding multiple contexts to an already multiplicitous discussion.
This exegesis contextualises the accompanying body of work, Uso 4 Life, an installation conceived from formative memories and experiences pertinent to the development of my identity as a mixed-heritage Sāmoan. Furthermore, I explore the ways in which installation practices can be used as a basis for such investigation
Le Corbusier in Paris 1915: Between past and future
In 1910-11, Charles-Édouard Jeanneret wrote the draft of a handbook on the visual and aesthetic perception of the city. “La Construction des villes”, never published by Le Corbusier, was based on his detailed studies of German-language literature on “Städtebau”. The manuscript came to light partially in 1977, through Harold Allen Brooks’ research, and completely in 1999, through research by the present author. It remains a crucial and fascinating source to understand Le Corbusier’s grasp of visual perception and the aesthetic needs of a city. When in the 1920s, Le Corbusier strived to be seen as avant-garde through his radical and – at times polemic – urbanistic proposals, he nevertheless built on knowledge gained through his own studies of the years 1910/11.
This paper is concerned with the period in-between, the year 1915 in particular: it focuses on Jeanneret’s visit to Paris and his intention to rework the manuscript “La Construction des villes” for publication. For seven weeks, Jeanneret studies in the Bibliothèque Nationale and explores Paris on endless promenades. The primary sources, Jeanneret’s library notes and drawings, filed under B2(20) at the FLC, plus a travel notebook from a private archive that has recently come to light, allow to understand a subtle shift in Jeanneret’s view of the city, and demonstrate his ability to learn from the past for the future

The title of this project is called Tukutahi, which means the synchronization of two or more subjects or objects moving together simultaneously. The central question in this dissertation asks,
“How can I express the whanaungatanga of my mixed lineage using raranga?”
This creative undertaking is about identity and the search of an ingredient that will enable my weaving techniques to display a combined relationship of a harmonious nature between my Māori and Scottish relatives. Although the whanaungatanga journey is not something that can be measured, what I have experienced, and its spiritual significance, has been an essential part of the academic journey
Practice to pitch: The relationship between force-velocity profiles and match-day performance of semi-professional rugby union players
INTRODUCTION
Previous research has investigated team match statistics to determine the most prominent in successful rugby teams, termed rugby performance indicators (RPIs). Coaches believe emphasising specific RPIs may increase team success. Recent advancements in force-velocity profiling (FVP) have allowed coaches to better assess the neuromuscular performance of athletes. However, while profiling metrics have been explored in biomechanically simple activities such as sprinting and jumping, little is known about the value of FVP in informing training for sport-specific tasks in rugby. In addition, most exercises used in resistance training (practice) occur in the vertical plane of motion, whilst the majority of performance indicators used on match-day (pitch) require players to exert force in a horizontal direction. This study investigates the relationships between force-velocity profiles (FVPs) obtained from four common resistance exercises and match-day RPIs. Investigating these relationships may provide coaches with the tools to enhance performance in practice and translate it to the pitch.
AIM
This study aimed to determine the relationship between athlete neuromuscular performance derived from FVPs, and RPIs.
PARTICIPANTS
This study recruited 22 semi-professional male rugby players (weight 102.5 ± 12.6kg, height 185 ± 7.4cm, age 24.4 ± 3.4years). Playing positions were distributed as backs (n=10) and forwards (n=12).
METHODS
Athletes performed four exercises (sled push, sled pull, back squat and jammer push-press) at incremental loads to establish FVPs. Rugby performance indicators (post-contact metres, tries, turnovers conceded, tackles, try assists, metres run, tackle-breaks and defenders beaten) were collected over nine weeks of a competitive season. Statistical analysis: Correlational analysis was used to determine the relationship between the results of FVP and RPIs. Results: There was a statistically significant, moderate, positive correlation between tackle-breaks and sled push V0 (r=.35, p=.048). Significant, large, positive correlations between tackles and jammer push-press V0 (r=.53, p=.049), tackle-breaks and sled pull F0 (r=.53, p=.02) and tackle-breaks and sled pull Sfv (r=.53, p=.02). There was a significant, negative relationship between sled pull V0 and tackle-breaks (r=-.49, p=.04). The largest, significant correlation reported was between metres run and sled pull F0 (r=.66, p=.03).
CONCLUSION
Results suggest horizontal resistance training may be best to enhance RPIs (tackle-breaks, tackles and metre run) and that maximal power is not indicative of successful match performance. Instead, a specified balance between force and velocity is best, depending on the positional demands and the rugby performance indicator of interest. Therefore, coaches should conduct FVP to identify deficits and prescribe individualised training to create optimal profiles, either force or velocity dominant
Developed and validated script for 18F – PSMA -1007 Synthesis in IBA – Synthera version-01
Prostate cancer is the most frequent cancer among males around the world. According to the American Cancer Society's website, one out of every nine males is likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer [1]. It is the world's second greatest cause of death among males. PSA, or prostate-specific antigen, is a popular biomarker for prostate cancer. For early disease detection, standard imaging technologies such as CT and MRI have not proved sufficient information. PET imaging in conjunction with CT/MRI is a useful tool for detecting prostate cancer [2]. PSMA (prostate-specific membrane antigen) tagged with radioisotopes is a promising agent for both early detection and therapy of prostate cancer. In prostate cancer cells, PSMA is overexpressed. As a service provider, we decided to create and supply the 18F-PSMA 1007 in response to the clinical need for PSMA in nuclear medicine departments. We've been commercially generating 18F-FDG and 18F NaF since 2009, and we thought 18F-PSMA was a tracer with clinical potential as well as economic potential and added value to the company. Despite the fact that we had already purchased a synthesiser (Trasis AllInOne) capable of producing 18F-PSMA-1007, installation and commissioning were nowhere to be found. As a result, we used Synthera v1 to make 18F-PSMA-1007 (Synthera v1; already retired by IBA, the manufacturer). Regent kits to make 18F-PSMA-1007 with more recent versions of Synthera (Synthera v2 and Synthera Plus) were available, and the product may be used in our experiments, but there was no approved synthesis script / sequence for Synthera v1. As a result, the first task was to write the /sequence script
A kaupapa Māori framework approach to filmmaking
The aim of this project is to explore kaupapa Māori filmmaking practices through practise-led research. I will focus on the processes and environments and how these create barriers or encourage Māori filmmaking aspirations. This thesis also investigates kaupapa Māori methodologies and processes used to make films, through epistemological and metaphysical traditions. This includes the examination of Māori in Screen, the experiences of our people in the film industry, and how methodologies can be applied in the way we go about making films and telling stories.
In order to make the research relevant to my own experience, I will share insights on the whakapapa of my film work via case studies and the methodologies I've used as a filmmaker. The reason why I am doing this research is to further understand the practice of indigenous filmmaking in the context of my own journey as a filmmaker. Through film, I have the opportunity to showcase a unique way of storytelling and knowledge transmission methods of our tūpuna, with contemporary methods and technology. Put simply, realising old ways with new ways.
To help realise this research, I will develop a kaupapa Māori framework approach to filmmaking and apply it to produce a short outcome that encapsulates the framework I have explored in my research. Through my key findings, I wish to discover frameworks and methodologies that help offer new ways of understanding and examining films grounded in Māori worldviews and experiences. This thesis therefore investigates alternative processes of filming that I have developed from a kaupapa Māori perspective through my filmmaking experience.

Intersections of immigration law and family violence: Exploring barriers for ethnic migrant and refugee background women
INTRODUCTION:
Action on family violence remains a policy priority for the New Zealand government. Accordingly, this article explores the Immigration New Zealand’s Victims of Family Violence (VFV) visa. Specifically, it explores possible barriers preventing MELAA2 cultural groups from utilizing the VFV visa.
APPROACH: The discussion is based on administrative immigration data, gathered by Immigration New Zealand (INZ), on applicants for VFV visas between July 2010 and March 2021.
FINDINGS:
Over the last 10 years, INZ received 1,947 applications for the VFV Visa. People of Asian (40%) and Pacific (38%) backgrounds made most of these applications, with India, Fiji, China, the Philippines, and Tonga making up the top five source countries. MELAA communities made only 11% of the total VFV visa applications. Applicants from South Africa, Brazil, Iran, Nigeria, and Argentina made up the top five source MELAA countries. Analyses showed that MELAA applications were mostly work-type visas.
IMPLICATIONS:
Data presented shows that the VFV visa is still underutilised within these communities. Possible reasons for these notable outcomes are explored in this article, with suggestions for remediating strategies for barriers preventing MELAA communities from utilising the VFV visa. This article concludes that more research is required to gain an in depth understanding of the specific cultural contexts within which these women engage with this visa
The biota and geology of Ngārango Otainui: A mixed indigenous / naturalised vegetation association of the Māngere Inlet, Manukau Harbour
An account of the geology, vegetation associations, mycobiota, flora and avifauna of Ngārango Otainui, a 0.309 ha island located at the eastern end of the Māngere Inlet, Manukau Harbour, Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland is provided. This appears to be the first comprehensive account of the island’s geology, vegetation and biota. The island has been mapped by others as Puketoka Formation; our survey confirmed this, noting that the basal exposed portion of the island appears to be a distal, heavily weathered ignimbrite over which is deposited a series of tephras (Hamilton Ashes). The flora and mycobiota of the island, assessed over three visits (2009 and 2021) recorded 125 taxa from 57 families and 100 genera from Ngārango Otainui, and vouchers for 119 (95%) of these obtained. Fifty-two (54%) of the vascular plants and four (36%) of the bryophytes are naturalised to New Zealand and most of these dominate the island’s vegetation. Earliest imagery (1940) available suggests that the island was then dominated by grassland, and that since then the island has developed a woody vegetation dominated by naturalised plants, mostly from dispersal from nearby Auckland City urban sources. Fourteen of these plants are regarded as pest species within the Auckland Council Region. During two visits (January and November 2021) 14 species of bird were noted on or around the island. While no nationally threatened taxa were found, one plant, Bromus arenarius, five lichens and three birds seen are listed as ‘At Risk’ by threat listing panels using the New Zealand Threat Classification System. Nine vegetation associations (and sparsely vegetated landforms) were recognised. These are described in this paper and their extent given and mapped.
