The question concerning technology in Northeast India
In Northeast India, an extremely rich cultural and historical setting, the challenge of the technological evolution of education makes it crucial to revisit the historical question concerning technology, as it was posed by Heidegger in his eponymous 1977 essay, then revisited by Chinese philosopher Yuk Hui in 2017, who coined the term “cosmotechnics” as a result. This paper discusses the project Library in the Forest, developed by research and design studio Forest Cybernetics, whose goal is to re-imagine how technology might serve, and not undermine, education, nature and the environment. Against universalizing notions of technology, it develops a cosmotechnical position – at once technological and ethical. The evolving curriculum brings together design practice, scientific investigation, coding and philosophy, with local/ indigenous knowledge systems, to re-situate technology in a specific set of histories of place, settlement and change
The Halloween Party
My studio project, the final exhibition for which will also be named The Halloween Party, is a mix of individual works and a picture-book. The individual works consist of oil paintings on canvas, and gouache paintings on paper. The oil paintings deal with the figurative, although there are abstract moments to be found within them. Whether or not the figure is present, the paintings are at heart about people. Their more obviously perceivable subjects, however, move between the domestic, portraiture, and the outside environment. The individual gouache works are painted in an illustrative style, a way of painting that is suited to gouache. While they deal with the figurative, are not as realistic as the oil works. Their subject is also people, but those people are portrayed in much more fantastical ways. Both the gouache and oil paintings are accompanied by words, which are written like captions under the image. The words direct and alter the meaning of the image.
My picture-book will be scanned and put together into a functional book for the final exhibition. However, each individual image (or page) is hand-painted gouache onto paper, much like the gouache individual images. Similar again to the gouache individual images, the style of the paintings leans to the illustrative, but like the oil works, abstract moments can be found within the figurative. The colour-palette of the picture book tends more toward bright, bold colours than my individual works.
The picture-book follows a girl named Clarisse, as she collects objects she finds fascinating, and attempts to show them to her parents, who are both blithely busy with their work. Hurt, Clarisse runs away, but gets cold and lonely, so eventually goes back home, where her parents have not noticed her running away, but have made her a delicious dinner. The book investigates the magic of childhood, as well as the feelings of sadness, hurt, and loneliness often a part of being a child. It examines the imperfect nature of parenting, and how gestures of love can so often be missed or misunderstood by those they are intended for. Conservation status of vascular plant species in Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland
The conservation status of all known indigenous vascular plant taxa in Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland was assessed using the New Zealand Threat Classification System (NZTCS). This is the first time Auckland Council has facilitated this assessment. Department of Conservation draft regional guidelines were used and a process outlined by the Greater Wellington Regional Council followed.
A total of 786 vascular plant species were identified as present in Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland. Two hundred species were assessed as Threatened, 105 as At Risk, four as Non-resident Native (Regional Vagrant or Coloniser) and 88 as Data Deficient. Forty-five per cent of vascular plant species are Threatened or At Risk. An additional 27 species were identified that have become extinct or may have formerly occurred in the region.

Critical data detection for dynamically adjustable product quality in IIoT-enabled manufacturing
The IIoT technologies, due to the widespread use of sensors, generate massive data that are key in providing innovative and efficient industrial management, operation, and product quality control processes. The significance of data has prompted relevant research communities and application developers how to harness the values of these data in secure manufacturing. Critical data analysis, identification of critical factors to improve the manufacturing process and critical data associated with product quality have been investigated in the current literature. However, the current works on product quality control are mainly based on static data analysis, where data may change, but there is no way to adjust them dynamically. Thus, they are not applicable for product quality control, at which point their adjustment is instantly required. However, many manufacturing systems exist, like beverages and food, where ingredients must be adjusted instantaneously to maintain product quality. To address this research gap, we introduce a method that identifies the critical data based on their ranking by exploiting three criticality assessment criteria that capture the instantaneous product quality change during manufacturing. These three criteria are – (1) correlation, (2) percentage quality change and (3) sensitivity for the assessment of data criticality. The product quality is estimated using polynomial regression (POLY), SVM, and DNN. The proposed method is validated using wine manufacturing data. Our proposed method accurately identifies critical data, where SVM produces the lowest average production quality prediction error (10.40%) compared with that of POLY (11%) and DNN (14.40%)

Academics-industry collaboration in programme development and delivery: A case study analysis
This paper discusses the collaboration between academics and industry during the development and delivery of an academic programme. The New Zealand Diploma in Cybersecurity offered at Unitec New Zealand Limited is used as a case study, as there was a need from the industry to develop such a programme to fill the skills gap in the market. The collaboration started as early as the creation of the qualification document by the national education authority. During the development of the programme, the industry was consulted as a key stakeholder to provide feedback and input on the structure and the content of the programme. During the delivery of the programme, industry professionals took on different roles. They delivered some of the contents as guest speakers or they delivered the entire course as a contractor with Unitec. They also played a vital role in providing internships for the programme. Programme statistics show that the collaboration between the academics and industry in the cybersecurity discipline is successful for two main reasons; the number of applicants increases every semester, and the high employability of the students while they are studying and after they graduate
4º Distrito de Porto Alegre: Um panorama histórico-temático dos planos e ações governamentais das últimas três décadas (1991 - 2021) = 4th District of Porto Alegre: A historical-thematical overview of governmental plans and actions of the last three decades (1991 - 2021)
RESUMO
Nas últimas três décadas, uma série de planos e projetos foram elaborados pela Prefeitura de Porto Alegre visando a reestruturação urbana do seu antigo distrito industrial: o 4º Distrito. Através do resgate e análise destas propostas, este artigo propõe uma sistematização histórico-temática dos planos e ações governamentais para a revitalização e reconversão econômica da área. Examinando as circunstân-cias que levaram à concepção dessas propostas, é possível identificar e caracteri-zar três períodos distintos: Período Tecnológico, de 1995 a 2004; Período Copa do Mundo, de 2006 a 2009; e Período Consorciado, de 2013 a 2016. Estes períodos, representativos tanto de posições político-ideológicas como das dinâmicas econô-micas e espaciais que preconizavam, são também ilustrativos da falta de continuidade das suas políticas, planos e ações.
ABSTRACT
Over the last three decades, a series of plans and projects have been developed by the City of Porto Alegre government aiming at the urban restructuring of its former industrial district: the 4th District. Through the recovery and analysis of these proposals, this article proposes a historical-thematic systematization of government plans and actions for its revitalization and economic reconversion. Examining the circumstances that led to the conception of the-se proposals, it is possible to identify and characterize three distinct periods: Technological Period, from 1995 to 2004; World Cup Period, from 2006 to 2009; and Consortium Period, from 2013 to 2016. These periods, representing both political-ideological positions and the economic and spatial dynamics they advocated, are also illustrative of the lack of continuity in their policies, plans and actions
The reported use of musculoskeletal rehabilitative ultrasound: A scoping review
BACKGROUND
Rehabilitative ultrasound imaging (RUSI) has been a progressively growing area of interest for rehabilitation providers. The origins of ultrasound imaging were founded in its utility for diagnosing organs and soft tissue structures, but it has become apparent that it may have clinical utility for rehabilitation providers by providing real time images that can be used to guide assessment and clinical outcomes in musculoskeletal disorders. RUSI is an established and reliable tool however the current literature is sparse and heterogenous, prompting the need for further investigation and synthesis.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of this study were to examine and synthesis the nature, range and extent of the current literature available on the topic of RUSI. In addition, to report the ways in which RUSI is being used and for what purpose. It also aimed to outline any implications and limitations to its integration into clinical practice for rehabilitation providers.
METHOD
The six-stage scoping review design developed by Arksey & O’Malley was used as the methodological framework for this review. Reporting was guided by the PRISMA extension for scoping reviews and Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). EBSCO, Scopus and PubMed electronic databases were used to identify articles with no date restrictions and included grey literature such as conference proceedings and theses. A thematic and descriptive analysis was then conducted.
RESULTS
A total of 84 articles were included in this review of which a cross-sectional design represented the highest proportion of articles. Four main findings were reported which included: the nature of articles included, and the main categories of use were for musculoskeletal measurements, biofeedback and other which primarily consisted of literature reviews and expert opinion articles.
CONCLUSION
The findings of this study indicated the main limitations to integration of RUSI into clinical practice was the nebulous nature and lack of consensus-based definition for RUSI as well as the apparent absence of guidelines from regulatory bodies on if or how RUSI falls into the scope of practice of rehabilitation provider
Private smart home: Structural monitoring and control with open-source technology
In collaboration with a colleague from the department of construction in 2018, a temperature monitoring system was developed over a short time frame to log temperature for comparison of thermal performance for two otherwise identical buildings built to different building standards. The reliability of this implementation became the topic of a conference paper published in 2019 (Look, Holmes, & Birchmore). \
Each site used an ESP8266 WiFi development board, with DS81B20 digital temperature sensors, logging to a shared google spreadsheet.
These devices exhibited significant reliability issues once deployed. As time was limited, quick software interventions were implemented, and digital timers placed on the power supplies to reduce duration of lockups.
A new high-performance home completed in 2022 presents an ideal platform to make use of several open-source projects, which have gained popularity in the “smart home” market, to evaluate the comfort and efficiency the home. These provide alternatives for users seeking to avoid corporate owned cloud-based systems, the maturity of these solutions should offer greater reliability than the previous system.
Two of these solutions (ESPHome released in 2018 and Tasmota first introduced in 2017) are compatible with the same ESP8266 hardware used previously (indeed the exact same modules could be used to implement similar sensors and put into service for comparison), as well as more modern ESP32 based hardware. Another project, BTHome, has also become available for ESP32 utilising Bluetooth instead of Wifi, this solution has significantly reduced power consumption offers the potential to operate from batteries for extended periods (potentially months or even years).
These projects, and many closed systems have the capability to interact with a “Home Assistant” server, another open-source project which can run on a Raspberry Pi connected to the local network. Use of a local server removes the requirement for always-on internet access while capturing data. The presentation will detail the evaluation of different available solutions, as well as progress made to date implementing monitoring and where appropriate, control of in-home system
Impacts of financial and industry expertise of the audit committee on the readability of key audit matters: New Zealand evidence
PURPOSE
The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of the audit committee’s financial and industry expertise on the readability of KAMs using New Zealand evidence.
DESIGN/ METHODOLOGY/ APPROACH
The sample covers 50 New Zealand listed companies for the financial year 2021. Correlation and regression analyses were conducted to examine possible relationships between the audit committee’s financial and industry expertise and the KAM readability. The Flesch Reading Ease Formula was used to measure the KAM readability.
FINDINGS
Both financial and industry experts on the audit committee are positively associated with the KAM readability, although the overall readability of KAMs is very low. Research limitations – This research only covered one year and a sample of 50 companies. Other firm and audit committee attributes excluded in this paper may also impact the KAM readability.
