STUDIES ON THE FUNCTIONAL MORPHOLOGY AND HISTOLOGY OF SPERMATHECA OF SPILOSTETHUS MACILENTUS (STAL) (HETEROPTERA : LYGAEIDAE)

    No full text
In S. macilentus a single median tubular and coiled spermathecal gland cum reservoir stores the sperms and provides suitable secretion for spermatozoan. A median spermathecal pump helps in migration of spermatozoa. The histology has been described in detail

SIZE RELATIONSHIP OF OOCYTES THEIR NUCLEI AND NUCLEOLUS IN LABEO PANGUSIA (HAMILTON)

    No full text
The size relationship of oocyte, nucleus in Labeo pang usia resembles ascidian and amphibian oocyte. The result indicate active role of nucleolus and nucleus in previtellogenesis and Indirect role of nucleolar extrusions in the yolk formation during vitellogenesis

CEPHALIC DEMARCATIONS AND CHAETOTAXY OF LARVAL DIACRISIA OBLIQUA (WLK.) (ARCTIIDAE)

    No full text
The diversified position of the frons, ad frontals and clypeal sclerite on the head capsule of larval Lepidoptera an arctiid has been attempted to simplify the terminology for uniformity in usage. Several unnomenclated setae and punctures are named, and described new while discussing the chaetotaxy. A few characters of taxonomic interest have also been generalised

LONG-TERM ECOLOGICAL STUDIES WITH LIGHT TRAPS THEIR PRACTICAL AND SCIENTIFIC VALUE

    No full text
The food producers in this world, the farmers, know better than most that we humans are not the only creatures around who need food and shelter. Numerous species of insects are active in natural and in man-made environments. Most of these are completely harmless to man, do not take their crops for food or act as vectors for diseases either for man himself or for his livestock. Most of these insects lead their lives in a way such that they have no negative influence at all on the economy. They are simply a delight for the eye such as so many of the beautiful moths and butterflies are highly beneficial to man in their activities as pollinators or as predators on insect pests

A REPORT OF THE EFFECT OF SOLAR ECLIPSE ON AN INDIAN TELEOST, CHANNA PUNCTATUS (BLOCH)

    No full text
Effect of solar eclipse on the behaviour, feeding habit and certain haematological parameters were studied in an air breathing teleost, C. punctatus. The fishes initially showed excitement but later on they settled down. During eclipse the fishes took less food. Blood glucose level at the end of eclipse increased whereas R.B.C. count and haemoglobin content of blood showed a significant decrease. No marked change was noticed in blood clotting time

THE EFFICIENCY OF A SYNTHETIC JUVENILE HORMONE KINOPRENE FOR THE CONTROL OF AEDES AEGYPTI

    No full text
The lower concentrations of the chemical, kinoprene i.e. 0.01 ml and 0.02 ml per litre of water were ineffective to produce the mortality of the larvae when 3rd instars were exposed for 24 hours, although a considerable pupal mortality was observed at these concentrations. These concentrations, however, affect the emergence of adults from the pupae so formed. The mortality rate of larvae and pupae was found to be much higher when 3rd instars were treated with high concentrations of 0.4 and 0.1 ml/litre. The chemical lso adversely affect the emergence of adults from such pupae

CONTROL OF MUSTARD SAW FLY, ATHALIA PROXIMA KLUG ON RAPHANUS SATIVUS L.

    No full text
The results of the field experiment indicated that spraying of 0.01% Cypermethrin (Ripcord), Permethrin (Perrnasect), Permethrin (Ambush), MIPC, Bassa, 0.05% Orthene, Mecarbam, 0 02% Aldrin, 0.03% Methyl parathion, Endosulfan and Methyl demeton were quite effective for control of mustard saw fly, Athalia proxima Klug, on radish

LEAD AND MERCURY ALTERS LIPID CONTENTS IN LIVER AND KIDNEY OF HETEROPNEUSTES FOSSILIS

    No full text
The toxic effect of lead nitrate (Pb NO3) and mercuric nitrate (HgNO3) on the activity of a few lipids like phospholipids, Neutral Lipids in the liver and kidney of Heteropneustes fossilis have been analysed histochemically. Impact of these heavy metals on hepatic and nephric tissues interfere with protein and lipid metabolism. Our experimental evidences may be useful in revealing the mechanism of injury caused by these heavy metals

FISH BIODIVERSITY OF GODAVARRIVER AT KOPERGAON AND PRAVARA RIVER AT PRAVARA SANGAMIN DISTRICT AHMEDNAGAR, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA

    No full text
Fish diversity studies were undertaken during May 2013 to April 2014 to census and commercially important fishes in Godavari River at Kopergaon and Pravara River at Praval Sangam in district Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, India. The results of present investigation reveal the occurance of 12 fish species belonging to 4 orders, 8 families and 9 genera in Godavari River at Kopergaon and the occurance of 15 fish species belonging to 5 orders, 7 families and 14 genera in Pravara River at Pravara Sangam
