A Randomized Controlled Trial to Evaluate the Analgesic Effects of Midazolam in Perianal Surgeries.
Background: Pain is a protective mechanism that alerts the body to potentially injurious stimuli.Perianal surgeries are associated with severe pain postoperatively.Midazolam has been reported to have antinociceptive action and to be effective analgesic agent in animals and human studies. Objectives:
1.To assesses the analgesic effect of intrathecal midazolam in perianal surgeries.2. To assess its side effects. Materials and Methods: The present study was a randomized controlled study, carried out at a tertiary care hospital. Sixty adult patients belonging to ASA I and ASA II scheduled for perianal surgery under subarachnoid block were included in the study. Age group selected was 18-65 yrs of age. Two groups were made Group A which was a control group and Group B was the study group. Results: Mean age of the group A was 42.63 and mean age of the group B was 43.57. Minimum and maximum age of the patients in both the groups was found to be nearly similar. In this study patients belonging to ASA I Grade were more. The mean time for first analgesic dose in minutes in the postoperative period is significantly more for group B (630.0+/-129.36) min as compared to group A (209.33+/-26.90) min. And the difference is statistically significant (p=0.000) when compared with control group. No patient in either control group or study group had side effects
