MUSEA / Place, heritage and nationalism : The conservation and uses of Burmeisterska Huset in Visby, Sweden, since 1850
The article deals with how a 17th-century building in Visby, the Burmeister House, has been used as a site of memory since the end of the 19th century. The theoretical starting point is the concept by the French historian Pierre Nora on how historians actively create sites of memory (les lieux de mémoire). We can regard the house as a site of memory to try and understand the historical significance previously ascribed to it and how the house is seen today. A site can be conserved or preserved through alteration, which emphasizes a selection of its characteristics that become tangible expressions of abstract narratives about the national or local community. This is the case with the Burmeister House, which, after being bought by Visby council in 1904, went from being a private home to a public museum, tourist office, restaurant, and reading room, later becoming a listed building and a visitor centre for the World Heritage Site. Hand in hand with the house becoming a place that provided experiences by way of guided tours, and where various kinds of merchandise were sold, the building underwent a number of major renovations. These were designed to reinforce the impression of a well-preserved merchant’s home from the early period of Swedish control of Gotland. Remainders of the post-18th-century history of the house can be seen in various places. The building has a century-old history as a tourist centre and travel agency, yet we can get a glimpse of this narrative only by way of various “forgotten” objects. An increasingly respectful attitude to the building’s 17th-century wall paintings, viewed through the lens of cultural history, led to the tourist centre moving out of the house in 1993. At the beginning of the 21st century, the building briefly functioned as a visitor centre for the newly designated World Heritage Site of the Hanseatic town of Visby. This led to a shift in focus for this site of memory, away from the building itself towards the conceptualization of the World Heritage Site and notions of Visby’s unique nature. At the end of the article, the author discusses the potential to use the building more actively again. The article draws on records held by the Antiquarian-Topographical Archive, Gotland Tourist Association, Military Archives in Stockholm, Gotlands fornvänner, Museum of Gotland, and the Region of Gotland
MUSEA / Interweaving content and restoration towards a UNESCO nomination : Conservation of the old laboratory of chemistry for the redevelopment of the science museum of the University of Coimbra
The project led by the University of Coimbra to revive the eighteenth-century Laboratory of Chemistry to a University Museum marked a revolutionary development in the landscape of departmental university museums. It served as a pioneer in introducing alternative management models for university museums at the outset of the twenty-first century. The undertaking encompassed not only the restoration of an historic building but also its adaptation into a modern museum, contributing to an elevation of overall museum standards through the shared management of the University’s diverse scientific collections. The completion of the initial phase of the museum within the Chemistry Laboratory by the end of 2006 established an ideal case study for heritage conservation within the university’s historic campus. This accomplishment laid the foundation for the conservation plans articulated in the University of Coimbra’s application for UNESCO World Heritage status. The objective was successfully realized with the official nomination in 2013

Antimicrobial activity of cationic lipidoids
Lipid-like compounds known as lipidoids are new potential candidates as alternatives to conventional antibiotics. These compounds are synthesized in high throughput, allowing a large number of structures to be analyzed (104 in this present study). Their structures possess multiple hydrophobic tails and multiple charged head groups. The membrane of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria provides stability and an impenetrable layer for many antimicrobials. The lipidoids were tested for their efficacy against B. subtilis strain to target the membrane.Previous bioscreen analysis have already shown that some lipidoids possess high antimicrobial activity and demonstrated minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) <25 μM against Gram-negative E. coli ATCC 25922. In this research, bioscreen measurements presented similar results against B. subtilis 168, showing that these compounds are very potent against Gram-positive and in some cases were even active at MIC = 6.25 μM. Furthermore, measuring hemolytic activity revealed that many lipidoids are also toxic to erythrocytes, maybe because the membrane of red cells also contains negatively charged lipids. However, lipidoids containing the headgroups of 4 amines (with 6 tail species) and branched tetraamine headgroups presented lower hemolytic activity and high therapeutic indices. The results obtained via a membrane integrity assay with propidium iodide dye proved that some lipidoids at low concentrations (6.25 μM and 25 μM) destroy or damage the bacterial membranes. These results were consistent with MIC assays and showed that lipidoids were membrane active at the same concentrations at which their MICs were established. Colloidal size measurements using dynamic light scattering and zeta potential analysis presented information about the particle size and surface charge of these compounds. Also, in combination with these measurements, optical microscopy was done. The results showed that all lipidoids form particles under 5 μm diameter and are positively charged. Therefore, the differences in activity are more related to the molecular structure than aggregate morphology.Considering the results of the antimicrobial assay, including bioscreen assays, fluorescence assays, and cytotoxicity assays two lipidoids with the same head group with 4 nitrogens and with different tails, nonlinear with 9 carbons and linear with 10 carbons (N4’ A9C and N4’A10) presented the best results.submitted by Dunja AscericMasterarbeit Universität Graz 2024Zusammenfassung in englischer und deutscher Sprach
Transfer of the limited partner's share by way of inheritance : effect of a (simple) succession clause pursuant to § 177 UGB
The death of a partner in an OG and the death of a general partner constitute grounds for the dissolution of the company in the absence of a partnership agreement. In contrast, § 177 UGB stipulates that the death of a limited partner does not result in the dissolution of the company. Therefore, § 177 UGB has the effect of a (simple) succession clause, as a result of which the KG is continued with the heir of the deceased. The aim of this diploma thesis is to show the most important legal aspects and implications in the context of the transfer of the limited partner's share by way of inheritance. This thesis is dedicated to the purpose of the standard and aspects arising from the succession of a limited partner in a KG between the inheritance and the devolution of the estate. In addition, the legal consequences that arise when the limited partner's share is transferred by way of inheritance and the special features of a disposal of the limited partner's share by way of a legacy are discussed. As § 177 UGB is a dispositive norm, the various options for structuring the partnership agreement and their special features are also described.vorgelegt von Therese SuppanArbeit an der Bibliothek noch nicht eingelangt - Daten nicht geprüftDiplomarbeit Universität Graz 202

Yearbook of the Society for 18th Century Studies on South Eastern Europe / The Karlovci Archbishopric and the Legacy of Antiquity in 18th Century
The Karlovci Archbishopric was the most significant Serbian institution in the Habsburg Monarchy. It underwent numerous changes throughout the long 18th century, which in turn had an influence on the Orthodox faithful and led the archbishops to found secondary schools. Special instructors were brought in to teach Latin, and students encountered for the first time the legacy of antiquity, primarily by reading original works from the Roman period. Furthermore, many ancient Greek works had been translated into Serbian in the late medieval period and were available to the hierarchs in monastery libraries. Thus, the bishops had been exposed to ancient writers, especially ancient Greek writers, during their time as monks. It is no wonder that citations from these works appeared in the archbishops’ letters in the early 18th century. In the mid-18th century, Greek schools, including two secondary schools, were a particular area of concern for the archbishops. This paper analyses how familiar the Serbian archbishops and bishops were with antiquity and its legacy, to what extent they encouraged the study of ancient works, and what the effects were for Serbian society in the Habsburg Monarchy
