Cheer Clubs
HELD AT STANTON
The combined efforts of the va- 
rious clubs united in the Xmas 
Cheer Efforts this year came to a 
joyful conclusion when nearly 
three thousand kiddies and their 
parents were made happy with 
gifts of toys, fruits and groceries 
by the Christmas Cheer committee 
at Stanto High school on Xmas 
Day. Long before the distribution 
of the gifts, Ashley and Broad 
streets were packed with pushing, 
pulling, squirming, eager humanity, 
whose only source of Christmas 
joy lay within the wall of the High 
school building.
For several hours the committee 
was busy passing out the toys that 
had been provided for the children 
and the groceries to make a make- 
shift Xmas dinner in impoverished 
homes. The gift distribution was 
quiet, efficient and - non-partisan, 
and the store of gifts dwindled 
rapidly under the hands of the 
volunteer workers. During the day 
1010 adults were given groceries; 
1001 kiddies received a toy; 64 kid- 
dies at Mandarin, Fla.; 45 at Bow- 
den; 25 at St. Philips Episcopal 
church, and 110 in various parts of 
the city were proud owners of toys 
that had been distributed by coun-

MAY POLE PARTY NEXT FRIDAY.
A May pole party will be given next 
Friday afternoon on the beautiful lawn 
in the rear of the State Board of 
Health building, on Bloxham -street, for 
the pleasure of the children of the en- 
tire city.
Miss Eartha M. M. White and other 
ladies will be in charge and plans 
have been made for all children at- 
tending to have a pleasant time.
MOVEMENT FOR BOYS’ HOME.
The movement launched recently for 
the establishment of a Boys’ Home, 
when several hundred citizens met and 
were addressed by Judge Gibbs and 
Others has awakened widespread inter- 
est, and another meeting will be held
Wednesday night at 7:45 o’clock, in 
Dickerson Auditorium of the Masonic 
Temple, corner of Broad and Duval 
streets. 
An appropriate program will be ren- 
dered, and adresses will be delivered 
by Mayor Swearingen, Rev. Dr. T. H. 
B. Walker and others. Judge Peeler 
and Judge Anderson have also been 
invited to be present and deliver ad- 
dresses at this meeting.
At the close opportunity will be given 
to all to pay a membership fee of $1 
each, and the organization will be 
made permanent by the election of of- 
ficers and advisory board of forty-five 
is provided by the constitution.
Everybody who is interested in the 
Home for Boys. and thus making good 
citizens for the future is invited to be 
present. The home is to be established 
on a ten or more acres of lands near 
 the city limits, with every modern ad- 
 vantage for boys: John H. Dickerson is 
chairman; Dr; W. C. malls, secretary 
of the committee.
