Detection of large-scale synchrotron radiation from the molecular envelope of the Sgr B cloud complex at the Galactic Centre
We present highly sensitive measurements taken with MeerKAT at 1280 MHz as well as archival Green Bank Telescope (GBT), Murchison Widefield Array, and Very Large Array (VLA) images at 333, 88, and 74 MHz. We report the detection of synchrotron radio emission from the infrared dark cloud associated with the halo of the Sgr B complex on a scale of ∼60 pc. A strong spatial correlation between low-frequency radio continuum emission and dense molecular gas, combined with spectral index measurements, indicates enhanced synchrotron emission by cosmic ray electrons. Correlation of the Fe I 6.4 keV K α line and synchrotron emission provides compelling evidence that the low energy cosmic ray electrons are responsible for producing the K α line emission. The observed synchrotron emission within the halo of the Sgr B cloud complex has a mean spectral index α ∼ −1 ± 1, which gives the magnetic field strength ∼100 µG for cloud densities nH = 104–105 cm−3, and estimated cosmic ray ionization rates between 10−13 and 10−14 s−1. Furthermore, the energy spectrum of primary cosmic ray electrons is constrained to be E−3 ± 1 for typical energies of few hundred MeV. The extrapolation of this spectrum to higher energies is consistent with X-ray and γ-ray emission detected from this cloud. These measurements have important implications on the role that high cosmic ray electron fluxes at the Galactic centre play in production of radio synchrotron emission, the Fe I K α line emission at 6.4 keV, and ∼GeV γ-ray emission throughout the Central Molecular Zone

All Zoomed Out: Engaging Students with Remote Outreach
This poster will describe how one academic library reset their engagement priorities and connected with students via the use of remote outreach programs. While more effort may go into implementing these events and activities, the opportunity to engage with new or wary users more than paid off in the quality of relationships built. Over the course of two academic years, library staff created, hosted, and assessed more than two dozen asynchronous remote outreach programs for students, including many who had never stepped foot on campus. What began as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in conjunction with the campus’s move to remote instruction, became a valuable tool to reach patrons in a post-COVID world. Attendees will learn how to coordinate efforts within their organization and think outside the box for ways to promote their collections and resources for an online audience. Examples of successful, non-Zoom remote outreach programs (YouTube Livestreams, Literary Contests, Finals Week Pet Grams, and more) will be visually represented with photographs, screengrabs, and links. In addition, tips and tricks for tracking, assessing, and sharing results with library stakeholders will be described and discussed. Exploring the lived experiences of title I elementary school principals and youth mental health: An interpretative phenomenological analysis
An interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) investigates how individuals make meaning of their social and personal environments. The primary questions that guide the exploration of the principals’ perspectives for this study include “How do Title 1 elementary school principals describe their leadership experiences in relation to student mental health challenges?”, “How do these experiences shape their perceptions of youth mental health within their schools?”, and “How do Title 1 elementary school principals understand the impact of external factors on their ability to address youth mental health challenges?”. According to Rousmaniere (2013, pp. 19–55), the principal has the most complex role in American public schools. The principal serves as the building manager, the administrative director of state educational policy, the defender of bureaucratic stability, and an advocate for educational transformation. Yet, like a factory foreman or a mid-level executive in an office building, a school principal is an administrator who is in charge of running the building on a day-to-day basis rather than making big policy choices. Standing between the district and the classroom, principals are described as “the assistants of authority whose power is derived from others and who are responsible for implementing managerial decisions but have limited opportunities to influence those decisions. Therefore, this interpretive phenomenological analysis (IPA) explored the lived experiences and personal accounts of elementary school principals while offering principals a safe space to share their perspectives and the effects of mental health issues in their schools.
For this IPA study, data triangulation was used as a method of data gathering. Multiple sources were applied by the researcher, including validation from respondents, the researcher\u27s stance, and memoing. These sources assisted in capturing principals\u27 narratives of their experiences and provided unique perspectives that educational research has overlooked (Helal, 2016). This study also aimed to explore how the theoretical underpinnings of IPA support this study and how this research may serve as a guide for schools and districts to more effectively support and retain the large number of students who require additional support with mental health challenges
Impact of gastrostomy feeding tube placement among veterans with dementia: A retrospective analysis
Background: People who directly served in the naval, military, or air service and were discharged or released in honorable condition are at higher risk of developing dementia. Dementia is a brain disorder that can interfere with daily activities such as eating, resulting in inadequate oral intake. In such cases, a G-tube may be considered. However, it\u27s challenging to decide whether tube feeding should be recommended due to the lack of evidence regarding its benefits and risks in individuals with advanced dementia. The purpose of the study was to analyze the impact of G-tube placement on the survival, hospital readmission, pressure injury incidence, and mortality of Veterans with dementia. A secondary aim of the study was to evaluate the difference in swallowing levels between the patients with G-tubes and those without G-tubes.
Methods: The study analyzed 34 dementia patients who had a G-tube consult in place and underwent a swallowing evaluation of level 6 or less in the past 7 years. Fisher\u27s exact statistical test was used to compare the outcomes of patients with and without a G-tube in terms of 30-day mortality, 30-day development of pressure injury stage one or higher, and 30-day readmission. The study also used the Mann-Whitney test to evaluate swallowing level differences. Additionally, Cox proportional hazards regression model was employed to determine the correlation between survival time in Veterans with dementia with G-tubes compared with those without a tube.
Results: Patients with G-tubes had a lower mean swallow function level of 5, whereas those without tubes had a mean of 6. G-tube did not significantly affect the mortality rate, but 12.5% of patients with G-tubes experienced mortality within 30 days compared to 16.7% of patients without G-tubes. Patients with G-tubes exhibited a pressure injury incidence rate of 31.3% compared with 11.2% in the no G-tube group. The readmission rate was 12.5% for patients with G-tubes, which is higher than the rate of 0% among those without G-tubes. The average survival duration for patients with G-tubes was 763 ± 766.6 days.
Conclusion: The study found that G-tube placement may not provide any significant benefit to patients with dementia. This research is important as Veterans have a higher risk of developing dementia and understanding the prevalence and outcomes of G-tube usage can help healthcare providers inform caregivers about the disease process early in the stage
