    PLANT DIVERSITY AND FOOD SECURITY AT HOUSEHOLDS IN MEKONG DELTA, VIETNAM

    The research aims at collecting basic data with the participation of farmers in the Mekong Delta – Viet Nam; then proposes solutions to enhance farmers\u27 capability in bio-diversity management, which help ensure household food security for the future. Also in the research, the group of researchers has focused on agricultural manufacturing efficiency, food security and plant diversity at household level. The PRA - Participatory Rural Appraisal and Questionnaires method were used in this research. The result of research showed that the main resource of farmers\u27 income within is from grain rice production, accounted for 95.2% in An Giang province, 74.4% in Hau Giang province and 87.9% in Soc Trang province. The division of labor in terms of gender is relatively reasonable. It has also found out that farmers have considerable knowledge of household food security; that plant diversity is decreasing as agricultural products are subjected to change towards market needs (24.3% in An Giang province, 27.1% in Hau Giang province and 33.3% in Soc Trang province). Besides, the research results also showed the fact of food insecurity and how households to react in case of food insecurity

    This paper is a review of environmental protection of water resources from pollutants and includes eight chapters: introduction, types of water resources, pollutants, biodegradation, environmental protection, effect of climate and environmental changes, conserving water resources and conclusion. Each chapter is separated. Water resources occupy a special place among other natural resources. Water is the most widely distributed on our planet: albeit in different amounts, it is available everywhere and plays a vital role in both the environment and human life. Of most importance is fresh water. Human life itself is impossible without it because it can be substituted by nothing else. Pollution of the environment has been one of the largest concerns to science and the general public in the last years. Biodegradation can be used to remove or to transform pollutants found in the environment, dissolved in natural bodies of water, into harmless compounds. To avoid further water problems and lessen projected harsh outcomes for the future we must conserve water and energy, and protect land and biological resources that are vital for a sustainable economy and environment

    CSR IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC THROUGH THE LENS OF HIGH DIMENSIONAL DATA ANALYSIS

    This study analyses the websites of one thousand worldwide companies that operate currently in the Czech Republic focusing on headings that relate to corporate social responsibility. All data was collected from websites of companies in the Czech Republic where common language was analyzed with a machine learning algorithm converting the result into a proper dataset for graph theory using high dimension data analysis. The purpose of this research paper is to identify the common terminology used for CSR and determine if factors such as company size or industry affect the interpretation of CSR. The paper provides visibility of the current understanding of CSR in companies that operate in the Czech Republic. The findings of this work can be used to develop further frameworks and management strategies in order to better communicate CSR initiatives to stakeholders being those external or internal

    STUDENTS SATISFACTION WITH INTERACTION AND COMMUNICATION DURING ONLINE CLASSES IN THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

    Covid-19 has undoubtedly affected all segments of human life, and thus education. Teachers and students around the world have faced a great challenge: to switch to various forms of online teaching through different platforms in the shortest possible time. Because teaching was thus forced rather than freely chosen, various factors influenced how successful online teaching would be. As one of the key elements of good and quality teaching, Meyer cites the establishment of good communication between teachers and students (Meyer, 2005). In this paper, we have examined the differences in student satisfaction with interaction and communication regarding online teaching during the Covid-19 pandemic depending on the academic achievement in their studies and the study year. We have started from the assumption that certain differences exist between the given variables. Total of 356 students of the Faculty of Medicine in Foča participated in the research. The obtained results show that there are differences in students’ satisfaction with interaction and communication during online classes depending on the study year (X² = 30,721, with p = 0,000), students in the second study year have the least satisfaction with interaction and communication during online classes, while students in the sixth year show the highest satisfaction. The second part of the results says that there are no differences in students’ satisfaction with interaction and communication during online teaching depending on the academic success they achieve during their studies

    UNIVERSITY EXAMINATION ISSUES OF DISABLED STUDENTS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

    The Covid-19 pandemic forced universities to offer distance learning and off-site examinations to reduce the risk of infection for students and staff. Due to the distance regulations and hygienic requirements, alternative examination types and the adaption of examination procedures have become necessary. For disabled students, studying is quite challenging enough in normal times. Under the pandemic, the changed examination conditions, for them are expected to be much more demanding. With this paper, the authors analyze if disabled students really have disadvantages in the current examination situation. Universities normally offer compensation of disadvantages in examination procedures to disabled students. Compensation may result in individualized test situations or offering alternative examination types, such as computer aided examinations instead of hand written tests or distance to other examination candidates by using separate examination rooms. That measures shall guarantee an equal treatment of all examinees. In Germany, pandemic-based distance regulations and hygienic requirements resulted in a replace of on-site examinations by online tests and unsupervised examinations such as “take-home exams”. These changes in the universities’ examination process let the question arise whether general principles of compensation of disadvantages can be applied in pandemic situations without any modification. The paper gives an overview about the general principles of compensation of disadvantages in university examinations. The authors analyze the current pandemic situation and its influence on examination procedures. They examine whether compensation principles are applicable to alternative and innovative examinations and the current examination situation at universities. Conclusion is that universities, in every individual case, have to check carefully if the previous compensation measures still ensure an equal treatment of all examinees under the pandemic conditions

It attempts to find out how often and how the students use online platforms, applications, websites and social networks in their informal learning and formal education. It describes the differences and similarities between the students’ use of online technology for their own unsupervised and unguided learning and for the purposes of their formal studies. Comparisons in the use of online technology are made with regards to the students’ gender and form of studies

    The paper reveals main characteristics of the COVID-19 related loan moratorium in Bulgaria. The implications for non-financial corporations, households and banks are discussed. The recent developments regarding the take-up of the loan repayment deferrals are described and analysed. Suggestions about the possible future path of recovery phase after the expiration of the moratorium are provided

    IMPACT OF DIC TREATMENT ON THE ANTIOXIDANT PROFILE OF RHEUM RIBES L. RHIZOME EXTRACTS

    Rheum ribes L. (rhubarb), which belongs to the family of Polygonaceae, is one of the most important medicinal Mediterranean plants. Its aqueous decoctions have become a common practice among patients suffering from diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and diarrhea. Therefore, it is worth using techniques capable of increasing the extraction of valuable compounds while providing effective microbiological decontamination of the raw material. Instant Controlled Pressure-Drop (DIC) is a high temperature-short time treatment (HTST) followed by an abrupt pressure-drop (ΔP/Δt>500 kPa s-1) towards a vacuum (about 5 kPa). It allows a controlled expansion to ensure better diffusivity and higher availability of the active molecules. Indeed, DIC treatment has already shown its potential in improving the conventional extraction of active molecules and essential oils from plants. Rheum ribes L. rhizomes were collected from Chouf, Lebanon, dried from 1.33±0.28 to 0.16±0.02 g H2O/g dry-basis, ground, and sieved into small particles of 0.4-2 mm. DIC treatment was used with a saturated steam pressure ranged from 200 to 600 kPa for 10 to 40 s. The antiradical characteristics (DPPH· test) of aqueous extracts of DIC-treated samples were determined. At low levels of saturated steam-pressure, DIC treatment showed a significant impact on the scavenging capacity of the rhizomes. Thus, at 260 kPa, it recorded the lowest IC50 value (54.56±0.19 μg/mL) versus 71.29±0.499 μg/mL for the untreated rhizomes (RM for raw material) used as a control. DIC processing parameters will be optimized in our future work to obtain the highest yield of phytochemicals while assessing the antimicrobial, cytotoxic, and bioactive properties of the aqueous extracts of R. ribes L. rhizomes

    OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY ΙΝ WIND TURBINES’ MAINTENANCE: AN INVESTIGATION OF MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS’ PERCEPTIONS

    The wind energy sector has evolved rapidly in recent years and has led to increased growth in wind farms as well as in new jobs. In the literature, risk factors in "green" jobs are a field of growing interest. The purpose of this study is to investigate the health and safety conditions and contributing factors during wind turbines’ maintenance activities. The data collection was done by developing and sending a questionnaire to eight companies, operating in the field of wind turbine maintenance in Greece. Fifty questionnaires were completed by wind turbine maintenance technicians working in 6 out of the 8 companies that participated in the survey. The statistical analysis of the data was performed with LISREL structural equation modeling. The results showed that the mental health of technicians performing maintenance work on wind turbines is affected by adverse ergonomic conditions and increased levels of difficulty and insecurity in the workplace. Health problems associated with extreme fatigue, headaches and hearing problems are affected by both mental well-being of employees and difficulties they face in their work environment. This paper provides the basis for research into occupational health and safety conditions in a relatively new industry, highlighting the potential health and safety effects of wind turbine maintenance activities
