Get PDFThe paper is based on the interpretation of the causes of differences between the assumed and empirically observed decision-making of players in the ultimate game. It follows the identification and definition of the phenomenon of positional investing, which allows to transform a property or income advantage into an improvement of the position of one of the players. An important step in describing the dilemmas arising in conditions where positional investing occurs is to define the function (in the simplified case, the line) of positional neutrality. To do this, it is necessary to extend the assumptions of Nash\u27s bargaining problem. One of the most important applications is in the area of reforms aimed at more fully exploiting opportunities to develop, preserve and apply human capabilities according to their rate of return

KNOWLEDGE AND HIGHER EDUCATION: PUBLIC/PRIVATE ‘GOODS’ DIVIDE
Get PDFWhile it is generally understood that higher education is a mixed private/public good, researchers rarely look at what within this mix is, or at least can become, private goods or private goods. Knowledge as a product of higher education is generally considered a predominantly public good. However, frequently researchers ignore rivalry and excludability in obtaining knowledge and often confuse positive externalities in education with the characteristics of a public good. Disaggregating knowledge into stocks and flows of knowledge and, further disaggregating flows into processes of acquiring knowledge and the process of expanding the knowledge base might help in solving the private/public ‘good’ divide puzzle. This paper also looks at the economic properties of the operational functions of a higher education institution and discusses their potential of becoming predominantly public or even global goods. MOTIVATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION STUDENTS TO LEARN BILINGUAL COURSES
Get PDFA key objective of higher education institutions is to facilitate effective learning, but motivation to learn plays an important role in promoting effective learning. This study aims at revealing higher education students motivation to learn bilingual courses. Applying interviews as a research method, this study develops a questionnaire based on literature of motivation to learn. Four motivational factors “attention”, “relevance”, “satisfaction”, and “confidence” are adapted to examine higher education students’ motivation to learn bilingual courses. This study also suggests corresponding skills in teaching and education to arouse and promote higher education students’ motivation to learn bilingual courses. As China is developing an integrated and high quality higher education system with the biggest number of higher education students in the world, this study takes China higher education students as an example, unfolding their motivation to learn bilingual courses

It is a pedagogy that emphasizes not only the knowledge and interests of children but also the different ways in which they communicate and learn to form a flexible framework that allows everyone to follow their own paths, their own rhythms. On the other hand, the conditions created by the movement of populations and the new educational data created by the immigration and school integration of foreign students, highlighted intercultural education as a way of exploiting differences and ensuring equal opportunities for all. Intercultural education aims at establishing a society with interaction and interdependence, with a spirit of reciprocity and equality among social members, with respect for the values and rights of all social beings, according to the Charter of Human Rights. PRACTICUM EXPERIENCE DURING COVID-19: HOW DID TEACHING ONLINE IMPACT PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS\u27 SELF-EFFICACY AT AN ARAB COLLEGE IN ISRAEL?
Get PDFClinical practice for pre-service teachers provides an opportunity for learning through teamwork with educators while exposing them to new teaching practices, enabling them to examine their self-efficacy in their discipline and pedagogical field. At the time of the outbreak of Covid-19, pre-service teachers were required, to move from practicum settings of frontal teaching in the school face to face into long- distance teaching via zoom. The demands for rapid learning of new platforms for distance learning became challenging. This challenge required pre-service teachers to reconsider their self-efficacy as professionals. The study was performed among students studying in an Arab college in Israel and examined the impact on their sense of self-efficacy in their teaching. The findings were derived from a broad questionnaire distributed among 300 students. The findings indicated an increased sense of self- efficacy during distance learning. Five factors were identified as creating a high sense of ability in designing and executing lessons: Implementation of innovative teaching methods; Convenient classroom management via zoom; High quality of working conditions in distance learning; Good teamwork among all involved in designing the lesson; Gender and the geographical residence area. It is suggested to educational policymakers take into consideration the self-efficacy aspect of pre-service teachers as a factor that may improve or impair their teaching. It is recommended to examine a hybrid practicum model that combines face-to-face teaching as well as distance learning
DEVELOPING TOURISM UNDERGRADUATES’ INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE IN A PURELY ONLINE ENVIRONMENT
Get PDFEven though moving the teaching-learning process to the online environment during the COVID-19 pandemic has triggered the long-awaited educational revolution, it certainly has both benefits and drawbacks. The present study aims to shed light on tourism undergraduates\u27 views on the advantages and disadvantages of different e-learning systems used at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Slovakia, during two semesters in the academic year 2021/22, in terms of their English language skill development. The data were collected through online questionnaires and analysed using the method of thematic analysis, while the research sample involved 101 tourism undergraduates majoring in the Regional Tourism BA study programme. The findings revealed that students were more satisfied with the intensity of skill development in the summer semester using MS Teams, concerning all the investigated skills, but mainly in the case of speaking and listening skills

Get PDFThe strategic aim of the “IT Academy – Education for the 21st Century” project was to create an educational model which would prepare young people for the current and future needs of society and the job market, focusing on Informatics and also Information and Communication Technologies. The new subject of Informatics in Natural Sciences and Mathematics consists of five modules that broaden and deepen students\u27 knowledge of Informatics. The Chemistry module focuses on creating models, working with databases, and using selected software programs to teach Chemistry. One of the topics of the module examines the biosynthesis of nucleic acids and proteins, and the use of programming languages such as Python to create genetic code–making models. Students are given the opportunity to work with programming languages, identify differences in the structure and properties of DNA and RNA, and explain the transition of genetic information, transcription and the synthesis of proteins. The content of this task has been selected to present examples of the practical use of Informatics in order to deepen students’ knowledge of Chemistry
FROM CULTURE TO CULTURE: A STUDY ON CROSS-CULTURAL ADAPTATION AND IDENTITY NEGOTIATION OF KINMEN STUDENTS
Get PDFKinmen is a small island which belongs to Taiwan. "Kinmen students" refer to the students who have been studying in Kinmen starting from the basic education of the country, until they are transferred to Taiwan or other countries. Because they grew up across the Taiwan Strait, apart from the geographical differences, I found that the students who had lived in Kinmen since childhood, had a longing for Taiwan, so that they had not paid attention to their hometown. After they came to Taiwan to study in universities and lived for a long time, they were willing to start caring for Kinmen. Based on the in-depth interview of qualitative research method, four interviewees who were born and grew up in Kinmen until they graduated from senior high school, then took the main island as its main living area. At the same time as having broken the geographical boundary, it is also the transition from one original culture to another cultural context. How to negotiate the "gap" between the two cultural contexts when entering the culture of "the other", and how to change the place attachment of Kinmen? The study revealed that after having the living experience of the two places, they are gradually perceived of the culture distance. There are obvious differences between the resources, educational environment, pace of life, transportation and interpersonal communication. However, the different from previous studies on cross-cultural adaptation is that Kinmen students do not completely become insiders of the new culture under the new environment, but have a stronger sense of place attachment to the original culture
