RISK FACTORS FOR INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN FLOOD-AFFECTED AREAS: THE CASE OF CENTRAL GREECE
Floods account for the majority of catastrophic events resulting from hydrometeorological hazards. In September 2023, Greece was confronted with the Daniel flood phenomenon that led to the need to reconstruct Central Greece. Flooding alters the natural balance of the environment and often creates a favorable habitat for the occurrence of infectious diseases. The probability of occurrence and transmission of these diseases is multiplied due to the adverse living conditions formed by the occurrence of the phenomenon. The obligation of the state to safeguard the lives of citizens makes it necessary to take prevention, preparedness and intervention measures adapted to the profile and needs of societ
CURRENT CHALLENGES AND CHANGES IN THE ACCOUNTING FUNCTION
Inspired by the numerous changes, roadblocks and problems facing the accounting profession as part of Industry 4.0 (and beyond), this paper aims to discuss three current challenges which will continue to impact the profession in the foreseeable future. Strategic documents, such as the World Economic Forum’s 2023 report on the future of jobs, the ACCA’s 2023 Annual Report, and other relevant documents, are used as a frame of reference. This paper outlines the three challenges that need to be understood both in terms of the future of jobs in general and the future of accounting in particular. These challenges are: 1) the capacity of accounting to attract graduates into the profession; 2) the relevance of the profession in terms of the ongoing digital transformation; and 3) the challenge of change, which this paper explicitly links to and examines by using VUCA framework – a well-known tool for identifying, quantifying and mitigating the risks associated with a specific situation. The articulation of the challenges seeks to indicate the necessary steps to a more sustainable accounting profession
EMPLOYMENT TRENDS AND GROWTH CHALLENGES IN THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC
The Slovak labor market faces challenges similar to those in other EU countries. Increasing the participation of inhabitants in the employment rate is crucial in the fight against poverty. A fundamental assumption for employment growth is economic growth, largely stimulated by domestic demand. In recent years, the global crisis has significantly impacted the economic system, affecting global labor markets by causing cost reductions, wage freezes, worker layoffs, and a reduction in employment rates. Addressing employment rate issues requires the development of active labor market policies
REGULATORY LABORATORIES (SANDBOXES) AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO INCREASE THE INNOVATION POTENTIAL AND COMPETITIVENESS OF BULGARIAN COMPANIES PARTICIPATING IN GLOBAL VALUE CHAINS AMONG THE HIGH TECHNOLOGY SECTOR
The current state of high technologies Bulgarian companies are operating in an almost \u27harsh\u27 competitive environment, raising a serious question about the implementation of new regulatory approaches that would provide a suitable environment for increasing their innovative potential along the global value chains. The main goal of the paper is to analyze the experimental regulatory environment/regulatory sandboxes regulatory as part of the innovative legislation tools already implemented by the EU Member States. This approach is directly linked to supporting the unfolding of the innovative potential of European companies. In this context, issues related to the equality of economic entities in terms of access to the protected testing environment, processing personal data for experimental purposes, the responsibility of participants during testing, the impact of testing environments on the market, etc., are considered. The report outlines some of the possible risks posed by regulatory sandboxes that should be appropriately assessed in the new community regulatory framework for high technologies and the EU\u27s new legislative framework. In this respect, the provisions related to the creation and functioning of regulatory laboratories in the proposed Artificial Intelligence Act are analyzed. Main findings of the paper are related to the competence and the need to build institutional capacity within national regulatory bodies to manage regulatory laboratories
AESTHETIC FUNCTION OF LANGUAGE IN THE LITERARY GENRE CHICK-LIT
The word ‘aesthetic’ is often used in everyday life situations. People tend to use this term when they comment on an art or music piece when it comes to interior or exterior designing or even in the fashion or beauty sphere; there is a separate field in medicine named ‘aesthetic medicine’. However, using this word daily is not very complicated and there is a possibility that the users rarely consider the origins and theory that support this concept. The idea of aesthetics is present in many fields, but in this article, it will be analyzed in terms of literature, precisely the language and its aesthetic function that is used in modern women’s fiction, in a literary genre called Chick-lit
A NEW ORGANIC COMPOUND WITH MEDICINAL AND COMPUTATIONAL APPROACHES: 2-(((2-BROMOPHENYL)IMINO)METHYL)-4-NITROPHENOL
In this study, a Schiff base compound named 2-(((2 bromophenyl)imino)methyl)-4-nitrophenol was synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy. The synthesized compound was studied to reveal its molecular structure and interactions, electronic properties, physicochemical, pharmacokinetic and medicinal properties. Potential biological targets for bimolecular activity were also determined, and docking studies were performed on the identified targets. The title compound showed high binding efficacy to tankyrase-2, a transferase enzyme. The calculated docking score of the complex with the title compound was found to be -9.158 kcal.mol-1 . In addition, the title compound was found to be a potent ligand for several targets, including secretase, hydrolase, kinase, transferase, HCV, influenza, and tuberculosis
NANO-OBJECTS IN OWN MATRIX - SELF COMPOSITE
Establishing the principles of nanoscience and nanotechnology has led to rethinking our understanding of the material\u27s properties. Therefore, some earlier results deserve to be analyzed again. In this paper, we present our results, which led to establishing a new type of nanocomposite - Self composite. The Self composite consists of matrix and nanometric size dispersed phase, with the specificity that the nano-object is formed from the same material or its parts, such as a matrix. We have made these nanocomposites using standard methods for the production of monocrystals or molecular beam epitaxy, but slightly above the solubility limit of the starting components. The possibility of obtaining Self composite by laser surface treatment of monocrystalline samples and agglomeration of a part of nanodimensional materials was also presented. Self composites are characterized (SEM, AFM, XRD, far-infrared, and Raman spectroscopy), and results were analyzed by Effective Medium Theory
PROBIOTICS IN POULTRY FEED: NEW PROMISING PROBIOTIC STRAINS IN THE DIET
The development and research of feed compounds to enrich diets, ensure health and stimulate productivity is an urgent issue in poultry farming. Probiotics are important in this context, and the key to their successful use is the correct selection of a strain with high probiotic potential, its rational dosage and justification of the expediency and method of introduction into the diet. The aim of the experiment was to research the productivity, blood biochemical parameters and growth performance of broilers using a probiotic feed supplement. It was found that the probiotics application in the feeding of broiler chickens increased live weight, the average daily gain was higher in birds that received all tested probiotic strains compared with control. Additional consumption of probiotic feed supplement by broiler chickens increases normalized biochemical indexes in the blood and improved beneficial intestinal microbiota. The best results were obtained when new promising probiotic strains (produced by Enzym Group) were added to the diet
SIZE STRUCTURE AND LENGTH-WEIGHT RELATIONSHIP OF EMPEROR FISH (LETHRINIDAE)
The emperor fish is a reef fish that constitutes the main catch of traditional fishermen in Wakatobi National Park (WNP). This study aimed to analyze the size structure and exploitation rate of emperor fish. The research was conducted on Kaledupa Island, WNP. The study used a survey method, identifying fishermen\u27s catches and measuring the length and weight of the emperor fish found at the study locations. Data analysis used description analysis for measuring fish diversity; length-weight relationship (LWR) of fish; and measurement of the fish growth indicators. The results indicated that fish diversity in the two study locations (Balasuna and Tampara) was nearly identical. The species of emperor fish found were Lethrinus harak, L. ornatus, L. variegatus, L. lentjan, L. erythropterus, and L. genivittatus. Of the five types of fish found there, was L. harak (505 ind), 210 L. variegatus and 172 L. ornatus. L. harak was the longest in size at 29.5 cm, L. variegatus at 29 cm, and L. ornatus at 19 cm. Analysis of the LWR conducted on the L. harak, L. ornatus, and L. variegatus species indicated that the growth pattern of the three fish is negative allometric (a < b), meaning that their growth in length exceeded their growth in weight. The growth indicators (K, L∞, t0) of emperor fish in WNP when compared with previous research are not significantly different. In order to maintain the sustainability of fish resources, there is a need to increase fishermen\u27s education and improve supervision of fishing activities
THE RISE OF NATIONALIST SENTIMENTS AND THEIR SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES IN THE PROCESS OF ADVANCED GLOBALIZATION
Since the period of the industrial revolution, the world has been subjected to the rapid processes of establishing new networks of contacts between individuals and organizations, particularly rapid in the area of communication, production, services and trade, resulting in economic development and enabling cooperation on an unprecedented scale in this area. Not all countries have benefited from these opportunities equally. As time passes, it becomes more and more visible that, beneath the surface of cooperation, there is a ruthless scramble for access to markets and the related opportunities to gain money and power under the guise of the globalization process. This is accompanied by the skepticism towards the effectiveness of the fair "free trade" and the search for forms of action ensuring the achievement of one\u27s own, egoistic interests, also related to the increase in isolationist tendencies as well as nationalist sentiments in many regions of the world and having impact on the social and political as well as cultural sphere of the life of nations. These spheres include an increase in social and ethnic tensions and rising the question about the possibility of conducting fair trade and genuine international cooperation. This situation also creates convenient opportunities to act for the populistically-oriented opponents of democracy, who try to "seduce societies" using the slogans of "national unity" and instill in them aversion to all those who do not share their vision of the world
