Efficient Modeling and Usage of Scratchpad Memory for Artificial Intelligence Accelerators
Deep learning accelerators play a crucial role in enhancing computation-intensive AI applications. Optimizing system resources—such as shared caches, on-chip SRAM, and data movement mechanisms—is essential for achieving peak performance and energy efficiency. This paper explores the trade-off between last-level cache (LLC) and scratchpad memory (SPM) usage in accelerator-based SoCs. To evaluate this trade-off, we introduce a high-speed simulator for estimating the timing performance of complex SoCs and demonstrate the benefits of SPM utilization. Our work shows that dynamic reconfiguration of the LLC into an SPM with prefetching capabilities reduces cache misses while improving resource utilization, performance, and energy efficiency. With SPM usage, we achieve up to 13× speedup and a 10% reduction in energy consumption for CNN backbones. Additionally, our simulator significantly outperforms state-of-the-art alternatives, running 3000× faster than gem5-SALAM for fixed-weight convolution computations and up to 64,000× faster as weight size increases. These results validate the effectiveness of both the proposed architecture and simulator in optimizing deep learning workloads.https://doi.org/10.3390/electronics1405103
Privacy-Preserving and Simultaneous Authentication in High-Density V2x Networks
The rapid expansion of Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) networks within the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) demands secure and efficient authentication to support high-speed, high-density and mobility-challenged environments. This paper presents a privacy-preserving authentication scheme that incorporates batch authentication, mutual authentication, and secure key establishment, enabling users to authenticate one another without a central authority. Our proposed scheme facilitates simultaneous multi-user authentication, significantly enhancing scalability, robustness and security in dynamic IoV networks. Results from realistic implementations show that our method achieves average authentication and verification times of 10.61 ms and 1.78 ms, respectively, for a fleet of 100 vehicles, outperforming existing methods. Scalability tests demonstrate efficient processing for larger groups of up to 500 vehicles, where average authentication times remain low, establishing our scheme as a robust solution for secure communication in IoV systems.https://doi.org/10.1109/vtc2025-spring65109.2025.11174532https://dx.doi.org/10.48550/arxiv.2501.06087http://arxiv.org/abs/2501.06087https://publications.polymtl.ca/68928

Quantification of Parametric Model Uncertainties in Finite Element Model Updating Problem via Fuzzy Numbers
Analytical and numerical models that simulate the physical processes inevitably contain errors due to the mathematical simplifications and the lack of knowledge about the physical parameters that control the actual behavior. In this sense, parametric identification of civil engineering structures using uncertain numerical models should be subject to a particular interest in terms of accuracy and reliability of identified models. In this study, model uncertainties are modeled by fuzzy numbers and quantified using fuzzy model updating approach. In order to find the possible variation range of the response parameters (e.g. natural frequencies, mode shapes and strains) using uncertain finite element model, successive updating is employed. A simplified approach is proposed in order to facilitate the time consuming successive model updating phase. The identified variation range of the response parameters is employed to construct the fuzzy membership functions for each response parameter. Finally, fuzzy finite element model updating method (FFEMU) is used to obtain the membership functions of the model parameters. Different sets of model parameters are chosen to represent different models in terms of accuracy and these parameters are identified in the same way to investigate the model complexity. A two span laboratory grid structure developed for simulating bridge structures is used to validate and demonstrate the proposed approaches. The results show that the proposed approaches can efficiently be utilized to quantify the modeling uncertainties for more realizable and quantitative condition assessment and decision making purposes.https://doi.org/10.1007/978-1-4614-6564-5_7https://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-1-4614-6564-5_7https://doi.org/https://doi.org/10.1007/978-1-4614-6564-5_

Automated Testing for Service-Oriented Architecture: Leveraging Large Language Models for Enhanced Service Composition
This article explores the application of Large Language Models (LLMs), including proprietary models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT 4o and ChatGPT 4o-mini, Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Sonnet and Claude 3.7 Sonnet, and Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro, Gemini 2.0 Flash, and Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite, as well as open-source alternatives including Qwen2.5-14B-Instruct-1M, and commercially accessed models such as DeepSeek R1 and DeepSeek V3, which were tested via APIs despite having open-source variants, to automate validation and verification in Application Programming Interface (API) testing within a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). Our system compares internal responses from the Enuygun Web Server against third-party API outputs in both JSON and XML formats, validating critical parameters such as flight prices, baggage allowances, and seat availability. We generated 100 diverse test scenarios across varying complexities (1-4 flight results) by randomly altering request and response parameters. Experimental results show that Google Gemini 2.0 Flash achieved high accuracy (up to 99.98%) with the lowest completion time (85.34 seconds), while Qwen2.5-14B-Instruct-1M exhibited limited capability in processing complex formats. Models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet models also demonstrated strong performance in single-flight validation scenarios, making them suitable for low-latency, high-precision tasks. Our findings indicate that some open-source models can offer promising cost-effective alternatives, though performance significantly varies. This integration of LLMs reduced manual workload, improved test scalability, and enabled real-time validation across large-scale datasets. As LLM technologies mature, we anticipate further advances in automation, accuracy, and efficiency in software validation systems.https://doi.org/10.1109/access.2025.3571994https://doi.org/10.1109/ACCESS.2025.3571994https://doaj.org/article/c4bd7a680f014345a52f3385fdc8fc3
Search for t-channel scalar and vector leptoquark exchange in the high-mass dimuon and dielectron spectra in proton-proton collisions at TeV
A bstract A search for t -channel exchange of leptoquarks (LQs) is performed in dimuon and dielectron spectra using proton-proton collision data collected at TeV with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb − 1 . Eight scenarios are considered, in which up or down quarks couple to muons or electrons via a scalar or vector LQ exchange, for dilepton invariant masses above 500 GeV. The LQ masses are probed up to 5 TeV, beyond a regime probed by previous pair-production and single-production searches. The differential distributions of dilepton events are fit to templates that model the nonresonant LQ exchange and various standard model background processes. Limits are set on LQ-fermion coupling strengths for scalar and vector LQ masses in the 1–5 TeV range at 95% confidence level, establishing stringent limits on first- and second-generation LQs.https://doi.org/10.1007/jhep12(2025)052https://dx.doi.org/10.3204/pubdb-2025-01744https://dx.doi.org/10.48550/arxiv.2503.20023http://arxiv.org/abs/2503.20023https://hdl.handle.net/11368/3123338https://bib-pubdb1.desy.de/record/628941https://doi.org/10.1007/JHEP12(2025)05
Ultimate Buckling Limit State Assessments of Perforated Panels in Medium-Range Merchant Ships Based on Updated Classification Rules and Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis
Merchant vessels often feature numerous perforations in their web frames. To enhance the buckling resistance of these perforated panels, it is customary to install local reinforcements around the openings. This research introduces a novel approach that segments perforated panels into separated unstiffened panels (SUPs) and applies recently updated classification rules for buckling strength assessment, supplemented by inelastic FEA. This research aims to show a case study on how to reduce shipbuilding expenses by conducting a quantitative analysis of the buckling strength of such panels. The study treated perforated panels as separated unstiffened panels (SUPs) in accordance with Common Structural Rules (CSR). The authors examined web frames from various types of carriers, including those for liquefied petroleum gas, containers, products, and crude oil. They gathered data on dimensions, materials, and applied loads for 96 SUPs in total. To assess the buckling strength of these SUPs, IACS rules, eigenvalue finite element analysis (FEA), and inelastic FEA were employed. We performed element size convergence analyses on a square unstiffened panel with simple support on all four edges, ultimately deciding on a 10 mm element size for both eigenvalue and inelastic FEAs. Additionally, inelastic FEAs were performed on the rectangular, unstiffened panels with various aspect ratios, and it was decided to use the average level of initial imperfection for the inelastic FEAs. The SUPs under investigation were classified into Method A and Method B based on CSR recommendations. The ultimate buckling strengths of the categorized SUPs were evaluated by CSR and inelastic FEA. CSR rules provided more conservative ultimate buckling strengths for SUPs corresponding to Method A, while inelastic FEA did for SUPs that were classified into Method B. On the other hand, the inelastic FEAs and CSR rules provided similar ultimate buckling strengths for SUPs requiring Method B. The eigenvalue FEA confirmed that Method B can be an alternative method to inelastic FEA and CSR rules. Significant cost savings were demonstrated by selectively applying CSR and inelastic FEAs for SUPs requiring Method A. The originality of this work lies in its application of the latest classification rule logic, detailed finite element validation using real ship data, and a cost-benefit analysis of reinforcement strategies.https://doi.org/10.3390/jmse13071265https://doaj.org/article/5ab5d2794932420ba5198c64512669c
Impact of small- and meso-scale electromagnetic field variability on the high-latitude energy input
In this study, the high-resolution data from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) satellites are used to investigate the contribution and impact of small- and meso-scale electromagnetic field variability with different scales on the estimation of Joule heating and Poynting flux. Smoothing windows with various sizes, such as 5°, 2.5°, 1° magnetic latitude, are used to analyze the characteristics of electromagnetic field variability during the March 2015 geomagnetic storm event. The results show that the small- and meso-scale filed variability can either increase or decrease the estimation of the total Joule heating and Poynting flux during the storm main phase by more than 100% with a smoothing window size of 5° latitude. During the whole period of this storm event, the electric field variability with scales smaller than 5° latitude accounts for 47% of the total electric field on average, whereas the magnetic field variability with scales smaller than 5° latitude only takes 10% of the total magnetic field. Moreover, the mean magnitude changes of Joule heating and Poynting flux due to small- and meso-scale electromagnetic field variability are 58% and 52%, respectively. The impact of small- and meso-scale field variabilities on the energy estimation decreases when smaller smoothing windows are applied, for example, with a size of 0.1° latitude window, the mean magnitude changes of Joule heating and Poynting flux are 20% and 17%, respectively. This demonstrates that finer grids can capture more contribution of small- and meso-scale variabilities in the calculation of Joule heating and Poynting flux. It is very important to use high-resolution grids to calculate the total energy input at high latitudes during storm events. These results will help improve the estimation of high-latitude energy input in the general circulation models, thereby more accurately predict the changes in upper atmospheric parameters.https://doi.org/10.3389/fphy.2025.1569257https://doaj.org/article/4824896c110145e38c6fa9e87dd3c8d
Weight and volume optimization of two stage wolfrom planetary gear mechanism
