Beam Finite Element Model Modification Considering Shear Stiffness: Octet-Truss Unit Cell with Springs
This study investigates the effects of modifying a beam model for octet-truss lattice structures to calculate the homogenized material properties using the average stress method. While alignment is observed at low relative densities, the unmodified beam model derives underestimated results at higher relative densities, reaching up to 40% and 30% for elastic and shear modulus values, respectively, for a relative density of 0.5. Beam model modification achieved by increasing strut stiffness at the joints is investigated in detail, and we conclude that both modulus values cannot fit the solid model’s results with this type of modification. This study proposes a novel modification method involving seven spring elements with two constants to capture both the elastic and shear moduli. This study concludes by compensating differences between the solid and beam models’ moduli with the inserted springs, providing an analytical solution for the linear elastic system. The performance of the unit cell models is tested by solving two lattice structures at which the elastic modulus and shear modulus were dominant, respectively, on the mechanical behavior. The results converge to a constant value when the number of unit cells is six, and the beam with a spring model achieved a performance that was close to that of the solid model for the shear-modulus-dominant lattice structure.https://doi.org/10.3390/app1516896
Spherical Fuzzy CRITIC–ARAS Framework for Evaluating Flow Experience in Metaverse Fashion Retail
The Metaverse—an evolving convergence of virtual and physical realities—has emerged as a transformative platform, particularly within the fashion and retail industries. Its immersive nature aligns closely with the principles of flow theory, which describes the optimal psychological state of deep engagement and enjoyment. This study investigates the dynamics of fashion retail shopping in the Metaverse through a novel multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) framework. Specifically, it integrates the CRITIC and ARAS methods within a spherical fuzzy environment to address decision-making under uncertainty. Flow theory is employed as the theoretical lens, with its dimensions serving as evaluation criteria. By incorporating spherical fuzzy sets, the model accommodates expert uncertainty more effectively. The findings provide empirical insights into the relative importance of flow constructs in shaping immersive consumer experiences in Metaverse-based retail environments. This study offers both theoretical contributions to the literature on digital consumer behavior and practical implications for fashion brands navigating immersive virtual ecosystems. Sensitivity analyses and comparative validation further demonstrate the robustness of the proposed framework.https://doi.org/10.3390/pr1311357
Risk Analysis of Five-Axis CNC Water Jet Machining Using Fuzzy Risk Priority Numbers
The reliability and safety of five-axis CNC abrasive water jet machining are critical for many industries. This study employs Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify and mitigate potential failures in this machining system. Traditional FMEA, which relies on crisp numerical values, often struggles with handling uncertainty in risk assessment. To address this limitation, this paper introduces an Interval-Valued Spherical Fuzzy FMEA (IVSF-FMEA) approach, which enhances risk evaluation by incorporating membership, non-membership, and hesitancy degrees. The IVSF-FMEA method leverages the inherent rotational symmetry of interval-valued spherical fuzzy sets and the permutation symmetry among severity, occurrence, and detectability criteria, resulting in a transformation-invariant and unbiased risk assessment framework. Applying IVSF-FMEA to seven periodic failure (PF) modes in five-axis CNC water jet machining achieves a more precise prioritization of risks, leading to improved decision-making and resource allocation. The findings highlight improper fixturing of the workpiece (PF6) as the most critical failure mode, with the highest RPN value of −0.54, followed by mechanical vibrations (PF2) and tool wear and breakage (PF1). This indicates that ensuring proper fixturing stability is essential for maintaining machining accuracy and preventing defects. Comparative analysis with traditional FMEA demonstrates the superiority of the proposed fuzzy-based approach in handling subjective assessments and reducing ambiguity. The findings highlight improper fixturing, mechanical vibrations, and tool wear as the most critical failure modes, necessitating targeted risk mitigation strategies. This research contributes to advancing risk assessment methodologies in complex manufacturing environments.https://doi.org/10.3390/sym1707108
