    Exploring efavirenz-DNA interactions: A multidisciplinary approach through electrochemical, toxicological, and in silico investigations

    Recently, there has been a growing approach that approved drugs have been tested for additional purposes. Efavirenz is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor used to treat human immunodeficiency virus infection. In addition, it has selective cytotoxic effects against cancer cells. This study constructed an electrochemical dsDNA nanobiosensor to monitor Efavirenz-dsDNA interaction based on the amine-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The experimental conditions of the nanobiosensor, such as dropping the volume of nanomaterial suspension, activation of the nanosensor, and dsDNA concentration, were optimized. The peak currents of dsDNA bases were enhanced, and the peak potentials of Efavirenz have shifted to the less positive potential thanks to the modified sensor with amine-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The interaction mechanism was also evaluated in incubated solutions. Docking calculations showed that Efavirenz is active in the large cleft regions of DNA that suggest minor groove binding. The effect of efavirenz on the expression profile of particular stress and possible DNA genotoxicity was studied via examining gene polymorphisms in hepatic cells.     Negative Poisson ratio based on textiles knitting fabric manufacturing process and mechanical properties: A review

    This paper reviews the advancements and potentials in Knitted Negative Poisson Ratio (NPR) materials, including warp-knitted, weft-knitted, and three-dimensional (3D) knitted structures. The review includes 10 sections the following order: a general introduction, defection of the NPR, the auxetic textile fabrics, warp and weft knitted, the 3D, the mechanical properties of auxetic knitted structure, advantages and drawbacks, and the future trends. However, research on knitted textile structures with Negative Poisson Ratio is limited in the literature so far. This type of material with unusual properties and 3D negative stiffness textile structure has been of interest for fundamental research, and engineering applications. Nonetheless, there is a need for a systematic study of their structural design and manufacturing process and their performance for further exploitation. Among different design structures, various structures have been designed and made to show the properties of (NPR).     Drawing as a Language in the Design Process: a Cognitive Bridge Between Thinking and Representation

    The design process is inherently representational; drawing and similar tools reduce cognitive load and enable the generation, recording and reuse of ideas. This process supports the internal dialogue that fosters innovative solutions. Representations have both external forms, such as drawing and modelling, and internal forms, such as imagination and thought, while language is a crucial tool that guides the processes of thinking and doing. While verbal expressions convey abstract thoughts and provide insight into the problem, visual representations concretise abstract ideas. This study analyses the transitions between verbal and visual representational languages, examining how ideas are transformed into representations, what comes to the fore, and what is left behind in this process. The ways designers structure ideas, the gaps that occur in the transitions between representational languages, and the ways they cope with these gaps are revealed through an examination conducted through drawing and physical modelling.     Development of sustainable bio-based photocurable coatings on aluminum alloy surfaces

    Abstract The aim of this study is the development of photocurable phosphorus-containing coatings based on soybean oil as a promising green alternative with higher bio-content to conventional heat and VOC-based metal coatings. Considering this aim, acrylic acid (AA) and a reactive monomer containing phosphorus (Sipomer PAM-200) reacted with the epoxide groups of epoxidized soybean oil (ESBO). The synthesized AA modified ESBO (A-ESBO) and Sipomer PAM-200 modified ESBO (S-ESBO) oligomers were then chemically characterized using Fourier transform infrared and proton nuclear magnetic resonance ( 1 H NMR) spectroscopies. Photocured free films of these oligomers were evaluated by means of hardness, mechanical, and thermal properties. Coatings were formulated by using the synthesized oligomers, photoinitiator, and reactive diluents with various functionalities, then applied on iron–silicon–aluminum (Al) alloy surfaces, and cured by UV-light. The coating quality was evaluated by contact angle, water resistance, gloss, hardness, and abrasion resistance tests. The overall findings demonstrated that adding more phosphorus-containing oligomer (S-ESBO) to the coating formulation improved the thermal stability, tensile, modulus, and hardness values. This can be attributed to a number of factors, including the presence of polar hydroxyl groups in phosphate ester, the penta polypropylene glycol groups of the phosphorus-containing oligomer, and an increase in the crosslinking density of the polymeric network.https://doi.org/10.1007/s11998-025-01152-

    Aligning National Protected Areas with Global Norms: A Four-Step Analysis of Türkiye’s Conservation Laws

    The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) conducts critical international studies and offers recommendations on the sustainable conservation, use, and management of protected areas worldwide by setting targets within the framework of the Nature 2030 goals and the Green List standards. These initiatives are essential for protecting designated areas and encouraging their use through nature-based and community-based solutions. The success of implementing these solutions depends on the effectiveness of the local legal regulations that are currently in place. This article argues that developing a common language and norms between global and national conservation frameworks, along with the efficiency of the national legal framework, plays a crucial role in facilitating the goals of the protection, use, and management of global protected areas. This study evaluates how the reflections and presence of IUCN’s globally significant targets are addressed within Türkiye’s national legal framework and policy level. The article evaluates global and national legal texts in Türkiye for social, environmental, and economic sustainability, comparing them with the Nature 2030 and Green List standards through methodologies such as word matching, comparison, and compatibility analysis. For the development of laws and policies that align with Türkiye’s global goals for the protection, use, and governance of protected areas regarding language and normative standards unity, the article highlights the importance of nature- and community-based national policy norms in achieving global protected area targets. The article’s results highlight the absence of community-based norms such as participation, governance, transparency, and equality, despite international consensus on norms like planning, area management, and the rule of law for the effective management of protected areas in Türkiye.https://doi.org/10.3390/su1708343

    Recent advances in the plant protein-polyphenol interactions for the stabilization of emulsions

    Proteins from plant sources including legumes, cereals and oilseeds are gaining attention due to their suitability for sustainable production, functionality, and positive consumer perception. On the other hand, polyphenols (PPs) are receiving considerable attention as natural ingredients in the human diet due to their potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Recent studies indicate that the emulsifying properties of plant proteins (PLPs) can be improved after modification through covalent and/or non-covalent interactions with PPs due to the changes in the conformation and/or the surface chemistry of the proteins. Complexes formed between PLPs-PPs can serve as innovative ingredients for developing novel food products with modified textural properties. Also, Pickering emulsions, multiple emulsions, multilayer emulsions, nanoemulsions, and high internal phase emulsions can be stabilized by such systems to deliver bioactive compounds. This paper reviews the most recent research on the PLP-PP interactions and their role in the stabilization of various emulsion-based systems. A special emphasis is given to modifying the structure and functionality of PLPs and PPs.
