Fusion Centers, Network Science, and Strategic Leadership: A Comprehensive Approach to Countering Domestic Extremism and Foreign-Influenced Terrorism
Fusion centers and network science tools offer complementary strengths in countering both domestic extremism and foreign-influenced terrorism. This article examines three distinct yet interconnected studies that highlight how intelligence sharing, targeted disruption, and community engagement can prevent radicalization and dismantle violent networks. Drawing from criminological and leadership frameworks, Eberhardt (2025) explores the organizational, strategic, and ethical implications of preemptive law enforcement responses to hate crimes and terror threats

Increasing Humanities and STEM Pipelines: Associations Between Student Characteristics and Academic Outcomes
Humanities and STEM disciplines may face shortages of college graduates, particularly from underrepresented demographic groups. Using multilevel generalized linear models, we evaluated associations between student characteristics and 6-10-year academic outcomes in humanities and STEM pipelines from associate’s major declaration through post-enrollment wages among 92,169 first-time community college students. Nonarts humanities majors were more likely to graduate and begin graduate study. STEM majors earned higher wages after terminating their studies. To increase the output and diversity of the humanities and STEM pipelines, students’ early selection of humanities-related majors should be increased, and STEM students’ persistence and degree completion should be prioritized

Revisiting the Benefits of Integrating Multicultural and Workforce Diversity Frameworks and Practices in Organizational Settings: Suggestions for Advancing Contemporary Leadership Practices
Recognized contemporary leadership practices such as Servant Leadership (Greenleaf, 2007), Transcendent Leadership (Crossan., Vera., & Nanjad, 2008) and Strategic Leadership (Beatty & Quinn, 2010),) are known for offering an understanding of the ways that leadership skills can be utilized in a variety of organizational settings. These well-known leadership practices are also known for underscoring the kinds of traits and behaviors that leaders should possess to lead and manage their employees and achieve organizational goals. However, one area that is absent from contemporary leadership practices is a focus on the kinds of multicultural and workforce diversity leadership knowledge, skills, and abilities that organizational leaders should possess to lead and manage a range of human diversities effectively in various organizational settings. The aim of this article is to: 1) share examples of existing multicultural and workforce diversity frameworks and practices that offer insights for advancing contemporary leadership practices: and 2) highlight the benefits of integrating multicultural and workforce diversity leadership frameworks and practices in present-day organizational settings
Goal-Driven Logistics—Shaping the Soccer Match Experience
Crowd management at soccer matches—or “football” matches in Europe—presents significant logistical challenges that remain underexplored in supply chain academic literature. This gap is particularly notable given stadium access, internal venue layout, and post-event departure processes play a crucial role in shaping the fan experience. The interaction between logistical systems and psychological factors is essential in influencing the overall experience of thousands of attendees. This article delves into these dimensions, offering a comprehensive understanding of the complexities involved in managing large crowds in sports venues. Additionally, it proposes new research directions, particularly in examining how psychological insights can enhance crowd flow, safety, and fan satisfaction. By bridging the gap between logistics management and crowd psychology, this work opens innovative avenues for further exploration in event management and sports venue design. These findings have the potential to improve the soccer match experience for both clubs and fans, fostering a more seamless and enjoyable atmosphere that benefits all stakeholders
The Long-Term Effect of the First Course in Accounting on Graduation Rates
We study the impact of business major student performance in the Introductory Financial Accounting (IFA) class on their graduation rates. The results show that the student GPA in the first semester, the cumulative final exam score in the IFA class and the term in which the class is taken significantly impact graduation rates. Though past studies have indicated that first term GPA is a good predictor of graduation rates, we find that performance in the IFA class has additional predictive value of graduation rates. Our results remain robust after controlling race, gender, major and embedded tutors
Social Media Use in the United States and Its Multifaceted Effects on Young Adults: A 2019 Cross-sectional Study
Computer technology, internet connectivity, and social media use permeate the fabric of contemporary society. For many years, scholars have studied the impact of TV viewing on young people’s academic achievement, health, and other individual well-being measures. Today, young people’s use of social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, etc.) and participation in other internet activities are at least as time-consuming as TV was in the past. This paper builds on this research by using the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) data to study how social media use and different types of social media postings by young people affect their academic achievement, adult earnings, psychological, emotional, and social wellbeing, and general health, while controlling for their background characteristics, parents’ education, self-esteem, mental and physical health. The results will provide information to educators, parents/caregivers, and policymakers which will help them generate appropriate guidelines for the time use of young people to promote their long-term welfare and quality of life
The State of Consumer Safety Perceptions and Brand Loyalty in the Data Privacy Crisis
Data privacy and sharing with third parties continue to be prominent societal issues that have consumers questioning the safety of their personal information. Using the Online Privacy Concern Scale and the Neuroception of Psychological Safety Scale informed by Polyvagal Theory, this research examines reactions to specific types of data sharing and how feelings of safety impact privacy concerns. The research also looks to understand how feelings of safety toward a brand impact consumer loyalty. Being the first study that applies these two scales, this research offers several important implications regarding data privacy and consumer safety perceptions
