SMEs Longevity: The Wax of Learning Orientation
Longevity is the soul of businesses. Nevertheless, failure/closed-shop rates for Nigerian SMEs are 80% within the first five years of inception. Moreover, can learning orientation and its proxies (intra-organizational knowledge sharing, open-mindedness, goal-oriented learning) serve to wax and revamp the narrative on SME longevity? The paper implemented a cross-sectional survey research design to obtain empirical data from 471 owners/managers of SMEs in South-West Nigeria through a structured questionnaire. The simple random sampling technique was used, while the reliability and validity tests were determined based on the pilot study results. The partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis findings revealed that learning orientation had a negative and insignificant effect on SMEs longevity in South-West, Nigeria [(Adj R2= 0.038; F2 = 0.005; SRMR = 0.430, NFI = 0.445, p < 0.05)]. Besides, the effect size of the proxies was small (2.5%, 0.7%, and 0.5% respectively) but statistically significant on SMEs longevity. Therefore, SME managers/owners should reassess their approach to learning orientation components to enhance intra-organizational knowledge sharing, promote a more open-minded culture, and emphasize goal-oriented learning to revamp SME longevity in the short and long run
A Comparative Study of The Northern and Southern Styles of Zhuang Opera in the Guangxi Zhuang Aotonomous Region, China
Zhuang Opera is deeply rooted in the traditions, beliefs, and lifestyles of the Zhuang people, yet it faces numerous challenges in the context of globalization and modernization. In 2006, Zhuang Opera was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage of China, offering an opportunity for its preservation. However, it continues to struggle with issues such as talent shortages, regional fragmentation, and the erosion of traditional practices. This study compares the two primary regional styles of Zhuang Opera—Northern and Southern—analyzing differences in dialects, musical styles, vocal techniques, instrumentation, and performance practices. Through fieldwork, interviews with practitioners, and detailed comparative musical analysis, the study reveals how these stylistic variations reflect the cultural values of the Northern and Southern traditions of Zhuang Opera. It also provides guidelines for the future development of Zhuang Opera, aiming to contribute to its preservation and revitalization while ensuring its continued significance in the cultural life of the Zhuang people
Assessment on the Economic Value of Ecosystem Services in Marine Protected Area: Focusing on Yilan Region in Taiwan
Coastal and marine ecosystems deliver critical ecological and economic benefits. This study evaluates ecosystem services from Toucheng and Suao fishery resource conservation zones (FRCZs) within a Marine Protected Area (MPA) in Taiwan's Yilan region, using the contingent valuation method (CVM). Public willingness to pay (WTP) for conservation is influenced by factors such as age (AGE), income (INC), environmental organization participation (EPO), perceived conservation importance (IMP), and number of children (CHI), reflecting sustainability awareness. The estimated total economic value (TEV) of ecosystem services is NT6.51 million) annually within the MPA, and NT44.98 million) across the Yilan region. We further calculate the economic value (EV) for different ecosystem services (provisioning, regulating, supporting and cultural) based on respondents' WTP. The results show provisioning services have the highest EV (26.90%) with NT841.73. Regulating services are valued at NT748.94 (22.61%). These findings inform strategies for optimizing ecosystem service management in the region. Policymakers may prioritize high-value services, such as provisioning (e.g., sustainable harvesting) and supporting functions (e.g., habitat conservation), in line with public preferences. Concurrently, efforts should address lower-valued services, including regulating and cultural functions, through awareness initiatives or balanced investment across different service types
Consumer Perceptions of Stablecoins in Nigeria: What Drives Adoption, What Inhibits it?
Stablecoin use in emerging economies remains uneven, underscoring the importance of understanding the perceptions that shape adoption. This study explored how stability, security, usefulness, regulatory protection, and social acceptability influence stablecoin adoption in Nigeria. Guided by the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Perceived Risk Theory (PRT), data from 403 users were analysed using structural equation modelling. Findings indicate that stability, security, usefulness, and regulation significantly influence adoption, while social acceptability plays a modest role. Together, these factors explained a large share of adoption behaviour. The study contributes to existing models by combining TAM’s focus on usefulness with PRT’s risk-reduction perspective, providing a more comprehensive view of adoption decisions. Practical lessons point to the importance of clearer regulation, stronger security, and utility-focused innovations. Although limited by its cross-sectional design and reliance on self-reports, the study opens the door for future cross-country and longitudinal research
What Makes a Striker Valuable? Strategic, Athletic, and Commercial Determinants in Modern Football
The financial valuation of professional football players is a critical component of the strategic and financial management of sports clubs. This paper focuses on strikers and attempts to provide a thorough review of the international literature on the factors affecting their transfer value. Strikers play a key role in achieving victory through their contribution to scoring, which makes their accurate valuation crucial. The study identifies and categorizes the factors of valuation into competitive, individual, and professional/commercial. Furthermore, it highlights the multi-factorial nature of value, as well as the dynamic influence of non-race factors such as popularity, commercial appeal, and social media presence. The finding that competitive performance, with an emphasis on goals, is the most important factor is supported by most research. However, there is an emerging shift towards more holistic models of valuation, where psychological, tactical, and extra-territorial dimensions are considered, demonstrating the need for multi-level approaches in modern football management
Assessing the Economic Growth Impact of Digital Innovation and Skill Acquisition: A Quantitative Analysis of the Nigeria Immigration Service
As e-governance becomes more imperative, governmental institutions in developing countries have come under increasing pressure to apply digital technologies to facilitate governmental services. One such organisation is the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), mandated to grow the country’s economy through trade facilitation and accurate collection of data on imports and exports for economic analysis and strategic planning. Consequently, we examined the role of digitalisation of the NIS in the growth of Nigeria’s economy and, whether digital skill acquisition by NIS staff plays a part in that process. The study was based on a cross-sectional survey of 375 immigration staff across the six geopolitical regions of Nigeria. Aided by Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modelling (CB-SEM) of data via AMOS, we found that digitalisation of the NIS directly supports economic growth (operationalised as trade and investment facilitation). Digitalisation of the NIS also leads to more training and skill-acquisition for staff. In turn, this increase in skills makes a stronger impact on trade and investment facilitation (i.e. economic growth). What the data trends suggest is that staff skill acquisition helped explain how and why digital tools lead to economic growth. The study implies that digitalisation isn’t enough. To make impactful contributions to the economic, Nigerian institutions also needs to invest in her people, supporting them with the right skills to use these innovative tools effectively. This study highlights the importance of combining technology with human development to make public services convenient and smarter and, the economy, even stronger

Enhancing Patient Management Effectiveness: The Roles of Transformational Leadership, Safety Culture, Employee Satisfaction, and Service Digitalization in the Digital Healthcare Era
The effectiveness of patient management in hospitals is influenced by transformational leadership, patient safety culture, and employee satisfaction. In the digital era, technology plays a crucial role in improving managerial efficiency. This study examines the relationship between these factors and patient management effectiveness, with service digitalization as a moderating variable. This study aims to analyze the influence of transformational leadership, patient safety culture, and employee satisfaction on patient management effectiveness while exploring the role of service digitalization as a moderator. An explanatory approach with a quantitative research design was used. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire from 207 employees of Dian Husada Hospital Mojokerto and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings show that employee satisfaction positively affects patient management effectiveness, while patient safety culture has a negative influence. Transformational leadership positively impacts employee satisfaction but does not directly affect patient management effectiveness. Meanwhile, service digitalization does not show a significant moderating effect. These results suggest that hospitals should focus on improving employee satisfaction and managing safety culture effectively. Strengthening transformational leadership is essential to creating a supportive work environment, while optimizing service digitalization can enhance employee performance. This study fills a gap in the literature on factors influencing patient management effectiveness and the role of digitalization in hospital settings. However, its cross-sectional design and limited hospital sample restrict generalizability. Future studies should use longitudinal approaches with broader samples for better external validity
