    Get PDF

To control the bacteriological and physicochemical quality of borehole water at the University of Lubumbashi (UNILU) in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo, ten samples were collected during the dry season. During the study, sampling campaigns followed by laboratory analyses were conducted during the dry season in August 2025.A total of thirty-two (32) parameters, including six (6) microbiological and twenty-six (26) physical and chemical, were measured. A careful analysis of the measured parameters revealed the following:- 50% of the samples were bacteriologically contaminated;- 100% of the samples met World Health Organization standards based on physicochemical parameters, and 40% of the samples contained heavy metals such as arsenic (As), Lead (Pb), iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn).Their concentrations were generally higher than WHO standards, confirming the visible vulnerability of the waters studied. According to our investigation, water samples from boreholes: P1, P5, P7, P8 and P9 were the most microbiologically contaminated sources; this contamination was attributed to many factors, such as infiltration of wastewater into the groundwater, the underground aquifer or poorly located latrines, poor sanitary protection of boreholes, lack of maintenance or periodic disinfection of the facilities and samples: P5, P6, P7 and P9 have heavy metals. This situation reflects significant contamination probably linked to the local geological nature and mining activities

    Get PDF

Time Series Forecasts Of CO2 Emission Variations In Madagascar Based On 1D-CNN

    Get PDF
The aim of this work was to use the 1D-CNN model to model the evolution of CO2 emission variations relative to the reference year 1990 in Madagascar. More specifically, the goal was to determine the optimal number of epochs for the 1D-CNN model that produces the best modeling performance. The datasets consisted of an annual time series of CO2 emission variations in Madagascar relative to 1990, covering the years from 1991 to 2022. For the experiment, the dataset was split into two parts: 80% (from 1991 to 2018) was used to train the model, and 20% (from 2018 to 2022) was used to test the model. The simulation was performed every 5 epochs, and the difference between the actual and predicted values was measured using the MAE (Mean Absolute Error) metric. The optimal number of epochs was determined based on the curve showing the evolution of the average MAE between the training and test data as a function of the number of epochs. After simulation, the minimum average MAE was observed at the 1965th epoch. The results of the 1D-CNN model forecasts, extending to a 10-step horizon, predict a more or less stationary trend in CO2 emissions relative to the reference year 1990 in Madagascar beyond 2023

This research work develops a stabilized Gompertz model to enhance the prediction and optimization of biogas production during the anaerobic digestion of market waste. The proposed approach establishes quantitative links between kinetic parameters (G₀, Rₘ, λ) and substrate characteristics such as dry matter content and the C/N ratio, both identified as key determinants of biogas performance. Experimental results obtained from four types of market waste confirm the model’s ability to capture the main kinetic trends, despite minor deviations linked to temperature variations during digestion. Furthermore, a substrate optimization strategy demonstrates an increase of more than 25% in cumulative biogas production compared with single-substrate digestion. Overall, this research highlights the relevance of kinetic modeling for improving biogas production and guiding the energetic valorization of heterogeneous organic waste streams

Political Pressure and Journalistic Independence in Reporting on the Conflict in Gaza, Palestine

    Get PDF
The Gaza War since October 2023 has become a dangerous context for modern journalists, with increasing killings, censorship, and widespread restrictions on access to information. This study aims to analyze the forms of political pressure on journalists in their coverage of the Gaza conflict and its impact on journalistic independence. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data was collected from the coverage of four international media outlets BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera, and The Guardian from 2023 to 2024, and reinforced by reports from international institutions such as CPJ and RSF. Qualitative content analysis used Robert N. Entman's (1993) framing model to identify patterns of reality construction and indications of political intervention. The results show that political pressure on journalists is multi-layered: it stems from state and military policies (access restrictions and field censorship), ideological interests within media editorial structures, and biased digital content moderation on Palestinian issues. This pressure affects journalists' freedom in determining the narrative, framing, and distribution of news, thereby limiting journalistic independence and making it negotiable. However, journalists demonstrate resilience strategies through cross-media collaboration, collective verification, and the use of open source intelligence (OSINT) technology. These findings confirm that press independence in the era of modern conflict is not only determined by individual courage, but also by the infrastructure of global information freedom and the transparency of digital platforms. This research is expected to contribute theoretically to the study of political communication and conflict journalism, as well as to policy recommendations for the protection of journalists and transparency in digital content moderation in the future.
