    Your Vanishing Vendors

    No full text
As we do not have a pre-print copy of this article to legally post please use the WorldCat link below to help you request it from inter-library loan. You may also purchase the article from Wiley or contact professor Sagner directly for the article. What should corporate clients of banks do during the current period of bank consolidations? The author of this article—a treasury consultant—says that lessons from bank mergers and acquisitions (M&As) can be used by firms whose other vendors are also undergoing mergers. That includes vendors who provide information processing, financial transactions, accounting, tax preparation, and other services. Clients are facing the very real prospect of their long-term vendor relationships vanishing—to be replaced by unknown firms from another part of the globe.http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/50598770

Optimization and Job Scheduling in Heterogeneous Networks

    No full text
The final publication is available at www.springerlink.comA heterogeneous network is a connected network of different platforms and operating systems. Job scheduling is a problem of selecting a free resource for unexecuted task from a pool of submitted tasks. Furthermore, it is required to find for every resource the best order of the tasks assigned to it. The purpose of this paper is to develop an efficient algorithm for job scheduling in heterogeneous networks. The algorithm should include parameters such as properties of resources and properties of jobs. The algorithm includes a cost function that is required to be optimized which includes parameters such as the total processing time, average waiting time. Our results demonstrate that the proposed algoritghm can be efficiently used to determine the performance of different job scheduling algorithms under different sets of loads.http://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007%2F978-90-481-3662-9_4

Using Laplace Transforms to Build a Linear/Non-linear Speedometer

    No full text
© ASEE 2010Consider the design of a speedometer (as used in a car, for example) using conventional mechanical linkages and a rotating magnet. We begin by modeling a linear speedometer. Later we introduce real-life nonlinearities. With the system linear, Laplace transforms make the solution of the problem easy and complete compared to solutions using differential equations. In the second case, we analyze several nonlinear effects. Although Laplace transforms are only accurate for linear systems, they can be used as is for several real-world nonlinearities, or they can be adapted for use with any generic nonlinearity by using a lookup table. Analysis and computations are done using MATLAB

Chiropractic Care For Children: Too Much, Too Little Or Not Enough?

    No full text
This editorial provides an overview of this Thematic Series of the journal titled Chiropractic Care for Children. In commissioning this series of articles we aimed to bring the busy clinician up to date with the current best evidence in key aspects of evaluation and management of chiropractic care for children. Individual articles address a chiropractic approach to the management of children, chiropractic care of musculoskeletal conditions in children and adolescents, chiropractic care of non-musculoskeletal conditions in children and adolescents, chiropractic care for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and possible adverse effects from chiropractic management of children. The final article by Charlotte Leboeuf-Yde and Lise Hestbæk is an overview of the current state of the evidence and future research opportunities for chiropractic care for children. We conclude this editorial discussing the strengths and weaknesses of contemporary research relevant to chiropractic care of children and the implications for chiropractic practice.https://doi.org/10.1186/1746-1340-18-1
