edTPA Perspectives: Connecticut’s Novice Teachers Reflect

    No full text
edTPA is an educative performance assessment designed to assess teacher readiness. It has gained momentum across the country; yet, it has often met with resistance from educators in various roles. Framed by Bandura’s social learning and self-efficacy theories, this collective case study addressed the gap in edTPA literature by exploring new teachers’ perceptions of the assessment as an efficacious tool. The researchers explored: 1.) What are novice teachers’ levels of self-efficacy regarding readiness to teach as measured by the edTPA Teacher Survey? 2.) How do novice teachers perceive the edTPA process as an influence on their professional practices? A major outcome revealed that new teachers are using mastery experiences to build efficacy and honing their craft in spite of their edTPA experience. Recommendations include a re-tooling of the edTPA assessment and preparation process to ensure a more authentic experience and meaningful long-term value for new teachers

CMOS Image Sensors in Surveillance System Applications

    No full text
Recent technology advances in CMOS image sensors (CIS) enable their utilization in the most demanding of surveillance fields, especially visual surveillance and intrusion detection in intelligent surveillance systems, aerial surveillance in war zones, Earth environmental surveillance by satellites in space monitoring, agricultural monitoring using wireless sensor networks and internet of things and driver assistance in automotive fields. This paper presents an overview of CMOS image sensor-based surveillance applications over the last decade by tabulating the design characteristics related to image quality such as resolution, frame rate, dynamic range, signal-to-noise ratio, and also processing technology. Different models of CMOS image sensors used in all applications have been surveyed and tabulated for every year and application.https://doi.org/10.3390/s2102048

Chiropractic Management of Atypical Hard Palate Pain: A Case Report

Objective: To illustrate the exploratory trial of therapy administered to a complaint of severe hard palate pain presenting to an outpatient chiropractic clinic, and the clinical agenda associated with the exhibited case. Clinical Features: A 76-year-old male presented with a 2-year history of hard palate pain centering just posteriorly to the left lateral incisor following an insidious onset. Upon examination, the pain was postulated to be of a neurologic nature; giving rise to a more nerve-related quality. The patient was previously seen by many healthcare providers regarding the complaint and subsequently presented to a chiropractic clinic for an impending trial of care. After developing a therapeutic framework based off the compiled evidence, a management plan was carried out for a total of 5 weeks

The purpose of this project is to update the brake system for four-wheeled walkers. This innovative idea is in development to improve the friction force between the wheel and the brake. In doing so, the quality of the braking system will be improved based on material comparison. A new brake pad holder was designed

COVID-19 Rapid Detection Techniques: Review and Perspective

    No full text
From March 2020 to present day COVID-19 has shut down entire nations crippling several economic structures. The mortality rate is approximately 2.2% however, the large masses that have contracted the virus remains a threat for those with compromised immune systems and long-lasting symptoms e.g., fatigue, joint pains, headaches. The current tactic as prescribed by the CDC is to adorn protective masks. The primary problem that countries are facing must deal with decreasing the overall transmission rate. In order to obtain an accurate result, researchers utilize detection kits with varying methods to gain results quicker than hospital visits. The ideal use of these test kits allows for rapid, convenient, and reliable testing. Four notable detection methods commonly used in the United States include Reverse Transcription-PCR, (RT-PCR), Loop mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), Lateral Flow Assay (LFA) and Enzyme Linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)

Elementary School Leaders’ Perspectives on LGBTQ Inclusive Literacy Instruction K-6: A Quantitative Study

    No full text
Students in American schools who are or are perceived to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) represent an historically disenfranchised group. They report experiencing bullying and harassment due to their sexual orientation or gender expression or both. Also, LGBTQ students report not having access to curriculum that is inclusive of LGBTQ representations. Elementary students deserve to read texts in which they see themselves in the books they read (mirrors) and have a glimpse into the lives of people that are unlike them (windows). Elementary school administrators, as the instructional leaders of their buildings, are in a critical position to ensure students have access to literacy instruction that is inclusive of individuals who are LGBTQ. This quantitative study sought to determine if a correlation existed between elementary school administrators’ beliefs and levels of comfort in leading LGBTQ inclusive literacy instruction, their perceptions of the barriers that impede leadership in this area, their actions and behaviors that support change for this group, and their sense of urgency in leading LGBTQ inclusive literacy instruction at the elementary level. Furthermore, the study sought to reveal if there were statistically significant differences between groups based on demographic variables of school leaders and characteristics of their schools and administrators’ beliefs and levels of comfort, perceived barriers, actions and behaviors, and sense of urgency in leading LGBTQ inclusive literacy instruction at the elementary level
